My room was basic with a TV but had broken fittings and needed a good clean. The bathroom was particularly unclean.
I found that the general atmosphere was impersonal and unwelcoming. By Sharm\'s standards, all of the prices at the resort were unreasonably high. I spent as little time as possible there by joining in with the dive boats operated by Oonas Dive next door to the Sonesta Beach Resort.

Sonesta Club -Sharm
from whizzerThe pool area had constant loud music playing and after a couple of days got annoying.Pool very cold not heated. Sonesta beach very small, packed in like sardines with lots of Russians and not many sunbeds unless you get up at the crack of dawm.
Rooms are very dark and you have to have the dim lights on even in the daytime. Fairly clean though.
Went and had a look at the Hyatt which couldnt be more different. lovely hotel spent a lot of time there instead.Superb reef too. Staff very friendly.
Taxis always trying it on with overcharging stick to your price before you get in.
Wouldnt go back to Sonesta Club at all
There are lots better hotels around.
Sonesta Beach Sharm
from A TripAdvisor MemberI accept that if you had a room near the main complex you may have a noise problem but any noise seemed to stop around ten o'clock.
Staff were generally very helpful and pleasant so I am rating four out of five as one or two were below par.
Beach is small but as a diver this didnt affect me. The a la carte restaurant is very good and works out about twenty yo twenty five British pounds per head. Organisation of breakfast is chaotic, you are better off having room service. Hotel is twenty minute walk to Na'ama bay centre or a three dollar taxi ride.
To cut a long story short, we had a fabulous holiday and we would stay at the resort again.
looks great, but looks can be deceptive
from grumpy-touristThe complex itself is beautifully designed, but it just does not work. Our first room was the nearest to reception (room 101...it should have been an omen) Awake at 4am to hear music outside. The reception staff were playing music for themselves, which was coming through the loudspeakers outside. I was informed this was acceptable to them, and met with amazed looks as to why I was complaining. After a room change (to a better, detached room, at the far end of the pool) the day became much better....until we tried to get on the hotels beach area. If you like to be close to your beach neighbours, this is the place for you. The hotel must have been last to be built, and has a tiny beachfront. Yes, once you are in the water there are corals and fish aplenty, but it is not a relaxing place to be. We spent most of the time around the pool (there are usually 3 available)and had lunches at their "Sea Breeze" cafe.
There is the usual buffet in the evenings for those easily pleased, or plenty of eateries along the path leading into town. The hotel reception staff are just about the worst I have ever come accross (with the exception of their Russian speaking one) Nearly all the "front-line" staff pay a lot of attention to pretty girls, and forget anyone else (I am not a pretty girl!) On our final day, music was being played at full volume around a closed off pool area for some teenagers to do a "cat-walk" type show....the same song was played for an hour (I can still hear it) with no regard to any of the other guests who were relaxing around the pools, or reading, or having a siesta.
Plus points; looks great, rooms fine (away from noise if you are lucky), Sea Breeze cafe.
Minus points; Beach tiny and crowded, noisy, most of the front-line staff.
Overall; If you want to relaxing holiday, look elsewhere.....it's a shame, but the staff need to be told that it's us that are on holiday here, not them.
A dire hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe were staying at the back of the hotel so it was a 5 minute walk to breakfast and to reception. The mini bar was empty and the air conditioning very noisy.
The hotel was under the flight path so sleep was difficult, especially as the gardeners would spray something (God knows what) over the grounds at 5.00am every day.
Our bed had very old sheets and an acrylic blanket. The bathroom had two lights in it but was almost pitch black - it was very difficult to see in there.
The service was diabolical. We would order 4 meals and 3 would arrive - we would ask for the menu and a bill ( not ours) would arrive - we would get our meals but have no cutlery! We ended up carrying our own bags to and from our rooms.
The beach areas was small and over crowded. We managed to get away on some trips organised by our reps and found some nice restaurants away from the hotel.
two-star propery
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe breakfast was acceptabe, the dinner was very good. Coffee was bad but is was bad everywhere in Sharm.
The beach is great, , just great. Live corals right on the beach. The boat rent had cosmic prices compared to next resort.
Compared to my other 10 vacations, this is a good two-star property, so if you pay right price you will be satisfied.
Hot, hot , hot
from A TripAdvisor MemberOk, the private beach was a bit crowded. It seems this hotel has the smallest allocation of beach. If its a beach holiday you are looking for I would suggest the HIlton which had by far the widest stretch of sand (and the comfiest looking sunloungers!!)
But in saying that, we preferred to stay by the pool. The attendant always laid out our towels for us and although nothing is 'reserved' this ended up being our spot for virtually the whole 2 weeks. There was more than enough loungers and there was none of this "towels on the longers at dawn" nonsense.
the entertainment was a bit poor. But we used to walk along the promenade into Na'am Bay most evenings and enjoy the sights and sounds. Very colourful !
I would recommend both Na'am Bay and the Sonesta to anyone. Dont be put off by the recent terrorist attacks - we would still return
great place
from TINA1695t go there....
from IsabelBMany of the restaurant and pool facilities are closed, although the only place to get away from the racket is to go to the Cactus pool which was unstaffed, and had not been cleaned for some time. You could write your name in the dirt on some of the sunbeds...
Mondays are welcome party nights for all new guests with more stadium level music until the wee hours of the morning. There is no getting away from this as the music can be heard from the promenade some 5 mins walk away.
On a final note, service at this hotel does not exist, so don't expect it!!!
In twenty years of travelling across all parts of the world, this is definitely the only hotel I have ever had cause to complain about.
Great hotel
from JH99The only compliant is the beach. It is small compared to the size of the resort and the sea is very rocky. If you were going for the beach I would try a different part of the country, as all the beaches are man made in Sharm.
I paid £550pp B&B for 2 weeks and it was worth every penny. Please shop around as the main travel agencies do charge 25% more then this
really just dont go
from LondonQueenRoom: Normal room did not worth the money that we paid
Service: if you do not tip you may wait hours and they are rude if you dont tip
Food: far to be good, recycled food
Really do not advise you to go there!!!!!!!!
I visited many hotels in Sharm during my stay and i really advise you to book with Intercontinental Garden Reef Resort Sharm El Sheikh, its a calm hotel great view, great food, great beach, and we do not to tip to get our service done.
Top Local Tips for Sharm El Sheikh
Pushing Salesmen The shop keepers in Sharm are notoriously pushy and rely on you giving in to pressure to look in their shop. They especially prey on English tourists because we dont like to be rude so they start by being very chatting and asking you about where you come from, soon they say they want to give you a business card for their shop to bring them good luck but you have to go to the shop to get one. We didnt get any further than this but they can get even pushier once you get in the store so be warned! Try to be respectful but firm if you're really not interested. Also, there isnt really much to buy there unless you enjoy filling your house with replicas of ancient egyptian statues and massive perfum pipes.
Things to do Sharm is rapidly introducing more and more attractions like go-karting and quad-biking, but the reality is that there are two big reasons to go there - year round sunshine and the sea. If you aren't interested in sunbathing or diving/snorkeling then you are likely to get bored.
Tourist place Sharm el Sheik was built for tourist and is a pure tourist area so be prepared not to experience Egypt. It's a place to go diving/snorkeling - not to see ruins or archelogical sites. Be prepared to be harrassed all the time by everyone in Sharm.
