We had a 10 day stay at Sol Y Mar - it was fab. I would definitely recommend this as a hotel to go to - just as described in the photos. We stayed on an all inclusive basis, and it was great value.

The holiday was really relaxing and chilled out. The hotel was excellent, great staff, clean rooms, good food, good variety on the menu, plenty to drink.

The staff were really fun and friendly - especially Nabel, Mahmood and Islam in the bar and Moh and Amad by the pool! Always looking out for us, reserving our sun loungers in the morning, ensuring our drinks were always flowing.

The entertainment was basic, but varied, and the guy that spinned around for twenty odd minutes was truely amazing.

The trip to the sister hotel was effortless, really easy to get to with regular buses provided by the hotel.

Leaving the hotel was a bit challenging - the taxi service was overpriced (but very reliable) and finding change for the journeys was difficult.

Great value for money

from Teresa33
The hotel was really friendly and the room we had was nice with a little terrace. The food was good and the Animation team led by Sacha was excellent. There was yoga around the pool in the morning plus other games etc. We picked the hotel because partly price and also because there was a bus to the Jaz Belvedere several times a day. It was very friendly and we got friendly with quite a few people there. Although there were also Russians staying here they were youngish and friendly. It was about 1.5 miles walk to Sharks Bay but there was not a lot there and it was in the middle of nowhere. There was a chemist and supermarket within walking distance. If you walked to the outside of the hotel Taxis were so cheap to get about. Soho Square worth a visit as well. Would go again to this hotel the staff were lovely

Excellent stay

I stayed in Sol y Mar Sharks Bay between 29 of Jan and 7th of Feb 2010 on all inclusive basis, holidays booked through TravelRepublic website. Just a bit of my background- solo female traveler, age 32, Polish. In the past I traveled a lot in Europe, Africa, South East Asia and stayed in different hotels- from the very basics to 5 stars.
Location: Be aware that there is nothing around the hotel and to get to some entertainment places you will need to take shuttle bus, taxi or local bus.
Beach: 5 mins free shuttle bus from hotel to Jaz Belvedere located at the nice beach with free sun beds.
Entertainment & restaurants:
Naama Bay is created mainly for tourists – shops, small restaurants, McDonald, KFC, Hard Rock Café, Vodafone shop(if you want to buy egiptian sim card), souvenirs and cloths shops, bars and discos – you can find here a lot but overpriced. I would recommend small restaurants at the coast.
38 LE shuttle bus to Naama Bay (you can take taxi on the main road for 15LE one way, 2 LE local bus
Old Market - you can take taxi or local bus (2LE) to Old Market which has more local atmosphere and also packed with small restaurants and souvenirs shops.
The hotel rep offers many different trips:
Camel riding/ boat trip/ exclusive yacht, water park, jeep safari, desert quad biking, buggy, Cairo by land or air, Luxor, Petra, etc.. I booked Cairo and quad biking. Be aware – Cairo is quite cold in Feb in comparison to Sharm el Sheik – 11C so take some jeans and winter jumper as I was frozen in my summer cloths. Don’t expect to see much Cairo in one day- main spots: museum, overpriced souvenir shop, Pyramids (obviously the most interesting).
Quad biking – I did it previously in Morocco and Thailand – not impressed with that in Sharm – too many people – not very high speed – but if that is your first time or you did it in England– go for it.
Top tip: take Egyptian pounds with you, not US dollars as you can get things much cheaper, average souvenir: 30-40LE and not 150 or 200LE.
Rooms - very good 4stars hotel standard, quiet, with very good every day room service. Hotel seems to be larger on all pictures I saw on internet. In reality it is not too big, but new, opened in Nov 09 so management want to build up the reputation. Staff - very friendly, speaking good English, so no communication problems, also I was encouraged by management and staff to share my opinion about my stay and they were ready to help me in case of any problems. Food – excellent. One of the best variety and quality I had so far so don’t even think of not taking all inclusive ;) One main restaurant open from 7-10.30, 12.30-14.30, 19-21.30, there is also snack bar at swimming pool open 9-17 with food service 12-17. If you are on all inclusive basis you can also have food and drinks free of charge at the beach bar in Jaz Belvedere hotel.
Entertainment in the evening 9.30-12PM– drinks, cocktails, fire show, Egyptian dancing - with my travel experience not my cup of tea but guests enjoyed it.
Weather: great sun between 8 and 3.30, about 23-25 C, very cold nights – around 10 C.
In my last 3 days very cold wind during the day so no bikini - I had to wear jeans and jacket.
People: Whatever stereotype you have about Egyptians – I met absolutely fantastic people, bought 2 books for my holidays and did not finish even the first one, if you are a woman on you own – you will not be bored if you are smiling and open. I made friends over there. But of course as in every country – you can meet jerks. Dress properly and preferably avoid alcoholic drinks outside the hotel – I had impression that Egyptians think that European women are free sexually and you can imagine what kind of interpretation they have…
Overall: I had absolutely fantastic, relaxing time, spent great time with Egyptians and was never bored. Got back with lovely tan ?

excellent a dream

Great! Would recommend it.

from joeblogsLondon
This hotel is only 2 months old.
Quiet location. Unfortunately not walking distance to the beach but does have a free shuttle bus to its sister hotel which has a nice sandy beach.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and got to know us personally - an advantage of not being a large resort.
Large number of Russian and British guests
Great food - you'll never go hungry with 'all inclusive' Free use of mineral water dispenser. We didnt experience any tummy upsets!
Animation team could be improved.
Spoke to other guests who had stayed over Christmas and NY and they had a great time too.
Great weather but cool in the evenings (January) - blue skies and sunshine.

I will be back very soon

Just returned from a weeks holiday in solymar sharks Bay The location of this hotel is perfect if you want to be close to the town but also far enough away so you dont get all the noise and hassle. Setting is beautiful, gardens. Entrance and reception area were very impressive, we arrived at night so it was lit up with fountains on.

The most enduring memeory we will take from this holiday is the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff from the pool cleaners and gardeners to the chefs and reception staff. They just cannot do enough for you and are happy to help in any way they can.

All in all we had a really good and relaxing holiday. If we could make any suggestions it would be "please save this standard"

Food Amazing.

from meatybj
Resort was excellent-suited us perfectly-staff were very friendly. Food and drinks available at all times-choices were amazing.Rooms were kept clean and different design made from towels on bed each day. Good to tip staff as then you get even better service.Shuttle to sister hotel available free of charge if you needed the beach and free use of poolside and beach bar and food. Quite a small complex but this we enjoyed as we all got to know each other-there were animators there with poolside activities and evening entertainment-e.g.kareoke-quiz night-bingo etc. Sunshine everyday and as their winter it was a was not too hot-25% most days or more. Would definitely hope to return next year if prices do not rise too much.

if you are looking for a restful holiday ,then this is definatly the place to stay .rooms are of a high standered and beds are so comfortable, you will have trouble getting out of them .a credit to the management and staff ,nothing is to much trouble ,going out of there way to make things special.the cleaner leaves lovely touches in your room.the waiters make special efforts in the restaurant for celebrations ie birthdays anniversarys and the food is 1st class .this hotel is spotless ,even the bottom of the pool is cleaned .the pool guy dives down and cleans the bottom of the pool .location : hotel in very quiet undeveloped area at moment ,but that adds to the charm .night life and shops only 10 mins away by taxi or bus .shuttle bus takes you to the beach 5 mins away ,lovely part of sharks bay .friendly and very hard working staff made our holiday a wonderful experience

Great service, standards and a very warm welcome at the Sol Y Mar

Both myself and my partner spent 2 weeks over the new year at this hotel and can honestly say that we had a fantastic time! The complex itself is bright and clean and well laid-out. Most of the rooms overlook the large circular pool & sun terrace area where you'll also find a welcoming jacuzzi to cool off in! There's a pool bar offering 'AI' freshly-made pizza's, burgers, chips & hot dogs etc as well as the usual all inclusive drinks.

On occasion, we'd have a 'sun lounger service ', so it's probably a good idea to make friends with the bar staff asap! Our room was cleaned daily with a towel animal usually waiting for when we returned after a hard days sunbathing. Our room came complete with pool view, mini bar (pretty expensive!), cable tv, comfy bed, safe, air conditioning and plenty of cupboards and drawers to dump the missus' clothes. The bathroom was clean & tidy with a hairdryer a great 'hot' shower!

As the hotel is all inclusive, you don't really need to be heading out every night. However, a visit to Na'ama bay is a must as there's plenty going on and you actually get to see a little bit of Egyptian tradition (be it souped-up for tourists!). It's here where you'll find the typical old market rows to barter and get lost in! A visit to Soho square is also a must as there seems to be plenty going on with regards to entertainment (Ali Campbell of UB40 fame was there when we visited). Saying that, food & drinks are very expensive so be warned! There are loads of boutiques and tourist shops if you're looking for souvenirs.

If you fancy hitting the beach, there's a free shuttle bus to the sister hotel 'Belvedere' which is about a 10 minute ride away. there's a hotel beach bar where you can pour yourself as many soft drinks as you like. (not sure whether we were supposed to but nobody said anything!). if you want a go at the banana boat, windsurfing, pedalo's etc, it's the place to do it. And for those in need of a pamper, the Belvedere has a health spa on site for massages and treatments which i fully recommend!

Back at the Sol Y Mar, we found all of the entertainment staff (animation) to be very friendly and up for as much fun as we were. They'd set-up quizes, bingo, karaoke as well as 'mr & mrs' competitions during the evenings as well as one or two themed nights which co-incided with the restaurant. They also kept us entertained during the day too with aerobics, table tennis tournaments, table football, 'stretching' and other water-based activities. There were a good group of us who made an effort throughout the 2 weeks getting involved in the games and competitions but if you don't want to, there's no pressure at all.

We found there to be plenty on offer when it came to food. There was always a good selection of meats, salads, desserts and bread every meal time with 'help yourself' beer, wine and soft drinks in the main restaurant.

On most evenings, the entertainment took place on the upstairs terrace which housed a great bar to sit at before and after dinner. there are plenty of tables and chairs to chill-out at after a days sunbathing. Also, we found the upstairs roof terrace ideal for catching the last of the days sun with an ice cold beer.

All in all, we fully recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the sharks bay area of Sharm el sheikh and hope that you have a pleasant and care-free stay like we did.
