Nice hotel, clean, very nice staff (except the massage people chasing the guests 24/7)
One problem 95% of the guests are Russians !!!
All staff members speak Russian, everywhere is written in Russian.
Karaoke in ...Russian (just like a bad Eurovision night !!!)

Difficult to ignore them, towels on the pool chairs from 6.30 am !!!
Feels like a Russian holidays.....next time will go to Hurgada to avoid
the Russians and the .....sharks

The staff are helpful, cheerful and friendly. The rooms are very well cleaned and the food is very nice. They have diffrent themed nights such as english nights, egyptian nights, italian ETC: So the food is from that specific country. The Real Animation team (holiday reps) provide entertainment throughout the day , From darts and water volleyball, To Aqua arobics and yoga stretching! There is a kids club were young children can meet new friends, play and watch dvds while you are relaxing, And from 9pm there is a mini disco then at 10 the real animation team provide a spectacular show for you.The games room is fun and well equipted and you can also use the internet. It is amazing and i will defenitly be going again.

We spent a wonderful fortnight at the Sol y Mar in February 2008 and decided on a last minute holiday this year and were offered two weeks at the Sol y Mar again. No hesitation in booking. The staff were just as friendly, and several even remembered us which made us feel very much at home. The room was great, overlooking the big pool, very clean and spacious. Only comment here would be that a soap dish in the shower cubicle would be extremely useful.
The food was fine, although a little repetitive, but there is plenty of choice and you would be hard pressed not to find something that you could eat.
The animation team work very hard to entertain the guests and must be given 10 out of 10 for effort. At our age we are past playing water volley ball, etc., but they never gave up asking us to join in and were great fun. I wish I could say the same for the supposed "singing duo" who play during the evenings in the lobby/reception area. Both of them cannot sing (I think they are tone deaf), their attempts are far too loud, you cannot possibly hold a conversation during their performance (if you can call it that) and why they have a toddler in a pushchair with them at that time of night baffles me - mind you when he starts to cry it is more melodic that the parents singing!
That's our only moan about the time spent at the Sol y Mar - go there for a nice rest with beautiful weather and really wonderful people to wait on you. I sincerely hope we shall be able to return again.

I visited for 1 week in May 2008 with my Mum as a last minute booking. We read reviews on various sites AFTER we booked and were worried what to expect. On arrival we were treated with nothing but respect and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. The food was fantastic with a huge choice to suite all tastes and nationalities (unless you're a small minded 'Brit Abroad' who likes egg n chips and goes to English pubs to watch Only Fools and Horses during your typical stay in 'Benidorm' in which case I'd say STAY AWAY and book for Benidorm instead. The taxi drivers are honest and punctual, the beaches are great.Shopping at the bazzars is a geat experience. I'm going again in April 2009 with my boyfriend and can't wait.

Stayed for one week at this hotel.
After reading some reviews on other sights we were not sure, but wow it was amazing.
We had a 2 bed room by the smaller pool (which it never seems to show )staff amazing helpful and friendly if they come to offer you a service and you say no they leave you alone BUT I WOULD RECOMEND A MASSAGE. Food was good for all inclusive. We walked to the reef beach 5 mins away and boy was is worth it to see all the different coloured fish .
We would recommend the hotel and are going back in Feb 09 for a week.

Fantastic hotel, Fantastic area, Food a little repetitive if you are all inclusive, but the restaurants are so cheap to eat out. We only used the hotel for breakfast/ dinner and all day drinks in the pool. My partner is booking for us for next month. So much to do in so little time. Best holiday I've ever had. Oh and I proposed and she say "yes"..............

I went on this holiday with my daughter for one week. For me it was like my second home place. The location is fantastic like a paradise. The rooms are beatiful and comfortable. Food was great and tasty. There is a large amount of Dirnks. The staff is GREAT and friendly. As I was disappointed with my room, they give me a better room in 2 minutes. Even one time I forgot my money at my room. As soon as possible, the cleaners found it and gave it back to me. I'll come back in December.
Thanks for this Great hotel.

I went on this holiday with my dad (36) grandad (55) three teenagers for two weeks. we loved it and we are going back in october. The weather was amazing. It was very hot, maybe not suitable for older adults like me grandad. He thought the holiday was good, but the weather was a bit too hot for him. For us and my dad, we loved every minute of it. The weather was gorgeous! All the staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotless. It was beautifully done up and the hotel rooms were lovely! The rooms weren't hot at night because of the air condition and you had a lovely sleep. The beds was very comfortable! There were no mosquitoes in the rooms, so that wasn't a problem. The food was great! It is better going all inclusive because you are allowed to have a drink whenever ou like. And believe me you will be needing one all the time! The only problem we had was the phone box. We couldn't find it for 2 days. It's about a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The pool entertainment was great! It was good for people of all ages. It got people together. We made loads of friends there!!

Rooms are so clean, stayed in a villa, was top quality, I've been to the Sol y Mar Sharming in now 3 times in 4 months. Absolute love it. Everything is so cheap, the location is beautiful this is sheer paradise. The beaches are relaxing, Nama Bay is good for shopping, eating, clubbing, best clubbing spots are Pacha, little Budah, black house etc. and most of all the people are so friendly can't do enough for you. The weather is so hot it was 41 degrees. The worst thing of all is I'm back home.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Sol Y Mar Royal Sharming Inn Hotel

Never again!!

from Abrain
Sol y mar charming hotel - don't do it! Just returned from a week there - the only good thing was that I wasnt there for 2 weeks!! In its favour it has got a lovely swimming pool but everything else is fair to poor! Our room was clean and kept clean for us but the bed was so hard my husband slept on the settee! Food was bland and the same day after day! The meat was dreadful - chicken was dry, beef tough and inedible! I existed on cheese rolls and salad - not good! The lobby bar is hot and sticky and the entertainment embarrassingly bad! I found the whole experience awful and was just so glad to get back home. To add insult to injury (nobody's fault this one) our flight was delayed by 2 hours and at the airport in the lady's loo the attendant tried to charge me £5 for 2 pieces of loo roll!

great for chilling out

Brilliant Holiday

from waterforwork
I am 22 years of age and went away with my boyfriend fro 1 week on the B&B deal.

The room in the hotel was above average with a lovely bathroom and good standard of cleanliness. The rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels were given if requested.

The air conditioning worked perfectly and was a god send!

Staff at the hotel reception was very helpful and spoke quite good English.

The pool was fantastic although the pool bar was not a great place to sit at; it was hectic and looked rather unclean although I never actually tried the food from there.

The hotel shop is a rip off. The hotel taxis are air conditioned and reliable although their prices are high just walk to the pavements and you will get a better deal.

The free hotel bus is a must but book the time you want to get on the night before. It leaves at mid day to naama bay and 7-9pm to naama bay and returns late at night for free. It’s a must!

The water and drinks in the hotel are expensive. I cannot comment on the food as I did not eat in the hotel except breakfast which we made on 2 occasions. The breakfast however was good with a huge choice.

HOTEL LOCATION
The location of the hotel is excellent as it is quiet but you can get to bust places easily.

Naama bay takes 5 mins and costs about 25 Egyptian pounds which is £2.50 that is the most you should pay.

BEACH
The hotel beach is nice scenery but no sand although good for snorkelling off the rocks.

The best beach near by is terrazina beach which is in old sharm town direction its 35 Egyptian pounds in a taxi and its sandy beaches with a live DJ playing house and excellent food!

Naama bays beaches are Fab! Must try!

NIGHTLIFE
The dolce Vita and fantasia are 5 mins in a taxi and pasha and ministry are in naama bay.
Loads of food choice and bars in naama bay stays open 24/7.
The panorama bar is a great spot for a drink and shisha pipe.

It was a great holiday a different beach every day and loads to do at night, don’t be tempted to stay at the hotel their is loads to see and its worth the very cheap taxi fares to go all over sharm.

Enjoy!

absolutely brilliant!

from boblottie
we have just come back from sharm after staying for 10 days and all i can say is we had the best time!! the hotel staff were brilliant, so friendly and are there when you need them. Mohammed working in the lobby bar gives an excellent service and he loves the english!!we were sad to leave him at the end of our trip!
our room was basic but all that we needed and the cleaner made some fab things out of the towels!! they have to be seen to be believed!
the hotel pool was fantastic, huge, very clean and surrounded by plenty of loungers. there is also chance to have a professional massage by the side of the pool!!
naama bay was good fun, but haggle as much as you can!! taxi rides home were very interesting!!
lastly as we were staying all inclusive the food was very much the same everyday and although it is nice food, make sure you pack plenty of immodium!!! i don't think it's possible to go to sharm and not have diarrohea!! don't let this put you off though because it really is an amazing place. i would recommend tiran island for snorkelling and just chilling out on a boat all day! great trip!!kelly and rob

Great Holiday!!

from misty27
Me and my husband have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Sol Y Mar Sharming Inn and our experience of this hotel does not reflect all of the negative comments posted on this website. Having read through the comments, we were not looking forward to staying at the hotel, but are glad we went ahead with our holiday and had a great time.

We found the hotel staff friendly and didn't feel like we were hassled in anyway. The food was good and there was plenty of variety. We were on an all inclusive basis and didn't have any problems getting water, or being served drinks. You are able to fill water bottles whenever you want from either the pool bar, or lobby bar.

The pool was lovely and was cleaned most nights and the surrounding area was always free from rubbish. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel with a michelin starred restaurant, then this hotel perhaps isn't for you, but if you are looking for a friendly and clean place to stay then I would recommend the Sharming Inn. As for Egypt itself the weather was fantastic and the snorkelling amazing and a visit to a shisha bar in Naama Bay is definately a worth while experience!!

warning

from any1for4play2001
warning if you are easily pleased this hotel is for you, the only good point about this hotel was that we'd only stayed for a week
there is just too many bad points to report.

Fantastic Hotel

from KairenAinley
After reading some of the reviews we were a little worried but still went anyway. I am so pleased we did as this hotel is absolutely fantastic! The rooms were very clean, the food excellent with three courses for lunch and evening. There was a wide variety of food to choose from and it varied every day. The deserts were to die for absolutely gorgeous.

This holiday is suitable for familities and couples of all ages with entertainment if you want to join in. There is plenty to keep the kids occupied with table tennis, pool and evening discos. We saw lots of families at this hotel thoroughly enjoying themselves. We did go at peak season so the weather was really good and hot so make sure that you drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. I would highly recommend all inclusive as all your drinks are free. From time to time we would fill our water bottles up at the bar and there was no charge for this. The hotel staff couldn't do enough for you!

I would definitely go back to this hotel and Louise at Imperial Travel who can be contacted on 0118 9180144 gave us the right holiday package. We asked for a quiet resort in Egypt with nothing to do but relax. It was important that the hotel was clean and the food was good (we have heard lots of horror stories about people being sick) this hotel was the exception I never came across anyone in the hotel that had been poorly other than a little bit dehydration caused by drinking alcohol throughout the day and lying too long in the sun. I would highly recommend this hotel for those overworked couples that need a good relaxing break! Thanks Louise you gave us what we asked for!

Beware!

from skadi
I have just returned after a weeks holiday with my 15 year old daughter and her
friend. The hotel itself appeared clean, the food was okay although very
repetitive. I was disappointed with the all inclusive package, we had to ask for
a drink each meal time and never managed to get more than one. we were entitled
to a free meal at the pizzeria, once there we were informed that we could not
have anything off the menu, only pizza, again we had to ask for a glass of water
and were never offered a second drink or a desert. Fruit drinks, ice creams and
fresh fruits by the pool side were all extras. We had to purchase bottles of
water from the bar and then we were able to get these refilled each day, no one
informed us of this, we had to ask other guests if they were paying for their
water and if not how they were accessing it. It very much felt that all staff
were more interested in serving the paying customers and would regularly leave
the all inclusive customers until last. This!
is very annoying when you have paid up front for your stay. The hotel staff
did not take no for an answer, we were constantly hassled to have our hair
braided, to have tattoos, to have beauty treatments. The hotel does not cash
travellers cheques, there is a bank machine opposite and a bank nearby, the
difficulty we had is that i had not taken my bank card and the bank would not
cash our travellers cheques without a receipt from the bank. We therefore had to
budget the money we did have on us very carefully. Please be aware of the mini
bar in your room, it is an extra cost, also check what you are signing for when
they come to check the fridge, our bill was £15 over what it should had been,
when i asked to see the original receipts we had been charged for bottles of
beer and wine that we had not had. i did question this but as we had signed for
it we had to pay, i am adamant that these items were added to the bill that i
saw after i had paid. My daughter was also asked to!
sign the bar bill in my abscence, again she signed for items !
that we
had not had. The beach down the road was great for snorkelling, it is well worth
a look just to see the fish. we had to pay to get on the beach as no one had
told us that we could get a voucher from the hotel. The biggest worry about this
trip was the men, inside and outside of the hotel. I have travelled to many
places and have never felt so uneasy and intimidated in my life. The men
constantly pestered my daughters, the man who cleaned the room wanted to take
photos of them on his mobile phone, i also later heard that the men in the hotel
shop were taking photos of the girls without our knowlede. A taxi driver offered
them money for 'favours' outside of the hotel. The Tourist Police were just as
bad, they viewed the girls as being old enough to marry as it is 14 in Egypt and
therefore did not see that their behaviours were inappropriate.
We did go on a trip into the desert and went star watching at night which was
great. The weather was fantastic and the pool was good, however there were not
enough sun loungers, so you either get up at the crack of dawn and put a towel
on one or you risk not having anywhere to sit. I feel very sad that we had these
experiences as i had originally planned to return with my husband at a later
date, i know now that i would not consider this. The english men who i spoke to
all told me that their wifes and partners were constantly pestered in
inappropriate ways also so it was not just due to us being on our own. When i
put in a complaint in regards to the bar bill and the mens approach to the
girls, i did not feel that i was listened to, in fact when you question or
complain the staff can present as being quite hositle and aggressive. All of the
english people who i spoke to had similar complaints and concerns, i will
certainly be taking this further as i would hate other families!
to experience what we did. it is also worth knowing that you do not have to
buy a visa at the airport if you are not planning to travel long distance once
there, you will be put into the queue for the visa straight away and when you
inform them that you do not require one, the staff are not best pleased! in the
airport you will be asked for money to use the toilets, men will take your
luggage from you and then want money, keep one step ahead all the time and be
prepared to be firm and strong!

Not ideal for young travellers

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our experience @ this hotel was nothing we expected. Although we went as all inclusive we still had to buy things such as water?!?
Entertainment was very limited...as well as facilities. Pool was great but be awear of the all male staff and their constant pestering chat up lines. Would not suggest this hotel to anyone. The managment staff were ingnorant, and actually quite rude. Food was ok but very repetitive.
But on the up side Egypt is a beautiful country and Namma Bay is a must. The shops and food were amazing, even with the pestering from the shop workers.

not what you expect

from tazbo69
we kept our fingers crossed when booking an allocation on arrival with thompson. having never done this before I was apprehensive what lie in wait in for us. I was right to be concerned. On arrival at the Sharming Inn it all looked very nice, (it was the middle of the night) and we were allocated a room on the ground floor just 10 steps from the pool...heaven you may think..it was. But alas, all good things come to an end, on our second day the air con packed up, after countless trips to reception who said the cheif engineer had been each time and could find nothing wrong with it. Not sure when he called as we certainly didn't see him. eventually the did offer to move us to another room, right across the other side of the complex facing a building site..nice ?i don't think. so we stuck to our original room with the promise it would be fixed the next day. On top of all of this I awoke on the 3rd night being violently sick (I am not an alchol drinker). I thought it might be a combinationof heat and different food, however several other guest became very ill aswell. Certain dishes in the restaurant were a very common to us all. We made a complaint to our rep who turned up for the first time in the eveing of the 5th day who blamed it on us sitting in the sun then going into air conditioned rooms. Not so in my case as ours was not working. the rep was down right rude to all of us resulting in a complaint to Thompsons direct. The manager of the hotel came over to see what the problem was and he was an absolute diamond. He even arranged for the chef to ring my room and ask what i would like to eat in the evenings where i was too poorly to go out and promptly sent bottled water, tea, coffee, fresh soup and fruit to our rooms. When I was out and about again he arranged for the food and beverage managers to oversee all of our food and drink requirements, cooking me anything (except bacon butty of course) I wanted.
This hotel has some serious issues with their food preparation and cooking, this being judged on the amount of guests taken poorly but the management go out of their way to put things right. Shame the same could not be said for the rep.
The animation team have no imagination what so ever, offering the same quiz and water gym every day. As with previous reviews, there is absolutely nothing to do in this area and you do have to travel to Naama Bay for any shops, restaurants and any nightlife. the beach over the road was very difficult to manage, the sea was mostly coral and quite dangerous when choppy and very deep.
All I can say is that it was an experiance I would not repeat under any circumstances. Fortunately we were only there for one week.

Top Local Tips for Sharm El Sheikh

Currency and Tipping Try and source some small notes (10 or 20 egyptian pounds - 1 or 2 GBP) for tipping when you arrive at the hotel. Failing that take some pound coins.

Diarrhoea Don't bother taking immodium, it doesn't work. Go straight to the pharmacy - very cheap. Remember to take toilet roll to public toilets as some don't have it. If your travelling in the winter take a cardigan with you. I have been to Sharm el sheik both in July and February. July was very hot and exhausting but February was nice especially for trips.

DON'T BUY A VISA If you are staying in the Sinai area you do not need a visa. You will be led to believe you need one as you depart the aircraft in the form of a leaflet and the holiday rep diverting you to the visa counter. Neither of these will tell you that you don't need a visa but the fact is you don't. Simply write "SINAI ONLY" on your entry card.
