Fantastic Holiday

from Tricko
20 January 2008 - 3 February 2008

I have never written a review before but felt I had too because of the bad reviews for this resort.

Please do not let the reviews put you off going to Amphoras Holiday Resort. We really enjoyed ourselves.

The weather was fairly hot - so it was perfect for some winter sun, we got nice tans.

The complex is fantastic. The only down side is that the pools are cold but that did not stop us from using them. Obviously in the summer months the pools would be warmer. Palm Pool area was wonderful, we sunbathed there most days. Hany was a fantastic waiter/bar man and looked after us very well - all the staff could not do enough for us. The Palm Pool is normally heated but wasnt while we were there.

The beach areas are small but we preferred the pool areas anyway. Snorkelling was fantastic.

The food is not fantastic but no worse than most all inclusive hotels in Egypt. It is not 5* but it is acceptable. There was always something nice to eat. Again the staff were very friendly in the restaurants and could not do enough for us. There is alot of Italians and Russians but they were all friendly enough with us - say hello to them and they will be friendly back!!!!. I think English people just expect too much and to be perfectly honest moan far too much. A holiday is what you make it.

The room was dated but very spacious and clean. The cleaner was fantastic and friendly.

The complex itself is very clean and well maintained. The staff are always cleaning.

Our son really enjoyed the kids club, the reps looked after them and occupied him and his friends extremely well. The kids also enjoyed the mini disco.

We mainly went into the tent on a night. It was cold but it is expected this time of the year. Again this did not stop us from having fun and enjoying ourselves.

We had an egyptian massage which was wonderful. You must try it!!!

We went quad biking in the desert and on a boat trip - both great fun.

Naama Bay is not too far away, we mainly used the free shuttle bus. There are plenty of shops and restaurants there. Hard Rock Cafe was great and very cheap.

Also go to the Fantasia Mall and Bazaar which is a twenty minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel has its own beach and it is one of the top dive/snorkelling sites in Sharm El Sheikh - what more could you want!!

We would normally go to Florida for winter sun but we have definitely found another place to add onto our list and we would definitely stay at the Amphoras Holiday Resort again.

we went to stay at this hotel for 3 wks a/l first impression, hotel nice, room nice & very big. but if you wanted a drink the only bar was outside & it was very cold at night. food was very poor never 5* . this is'nt a hotel for english people. if you went in night club which opened at 10 you could only have beer or soft drink. the a/l stopped at 11, you also had to pay for water. i would never come back to this hotel again we only managed to stay for 1 wk then had to ring family in england to get us moved the rep was a waste of time. i have been to egypt 7 times this will not put me off there is a lot of nice hotel's

Great if your Italian or under 21 .

Just returned from The Amphoras yesterday.
My wife and I stayed for 1 week AI.
We both enjoyed the holiday very much, but the hotel itself was not great. We will go back to Sharm but not here.
Next time we go we will go b+b. Be warned, the food here is poor at best. Breakfast wasn't bad.
Lunch and dinner are something not to get too exited about..The food was cold and blandand with lots of pasta..Due to this we went to Naama Bay most nights to eat out. We found a great restaurant called Dananeer..Its a fish restaurant and steak house. We went a couple of times and had fantastic food and service and it was very cheap.. £12 for steak and monkfish and drinks..
Naama Bay itself was fantastic. There are lots of shops most of them selling the same tacky rubbish but good fun haggling with the shop owners and you can get some bargains.

Our room at the hotel was large as we were on the end of the row nearest the beach with a lovely view.Decor was a bit outdated and could do with a spruce up . One of my major gripes was that there is no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Air con didnt work, luckily we didnt need to use it so not a problem and most of the lights in the room didnt work, nor did the hairdryer.
There were 3 seperate parts of beach. 2 in small bays which got busy quite early but were very nice and the main part of the beach which didnt really have access to the sea as there was a 5-6 foot drop into the water.
The diving was amazing and the dive staff were very good especially Sony..We did all our dives with him and he looked after us very well. On every dive there was just the 3 of us and on our last dive at Nas Mohammed we had the dive boat all to ourselves. The dive boat staff were very friendly and welcoming and shared there traditional breakfast with us on the deck.
Snorkelling was very good with the boardwalk going out to the point of the drop off in the sea with really good coral and variety of fish. We also got a very good DVD filmed on one of our dives.

As everyone knows this hotel is geared towards Italians which wasnt a problem apart from the horrendous entertainment which was all day every day with very loud music booming on the beach and every night from about 9 pm till midnight at the stage area for the Italians. Our room was very close to this stage and it really did annoy me alot..No matter what time of day or where you are in the resort, you will have to shout to hear one another over the distorted music. Not quite the peace and relaxation i craved for.

Overall we both enjoyed Sharm, especially Naama Bay and the diving and will return but not at the Amphoras . Next time we will stay closer to Naama Bay. Although The Amphoras is only 10 minutes away by taxi and costs £25 Egyptian, which is about £2.30..

Not the best holiday!

from tinamorgan991
Spent 14 nights here at the beginning of December and was surprised at how bad it was. The hotel itself was lovely and clean, the rooms were a good size and the staff were fantastic. The food however was awful. The menu was the same throughout the entire two weeks, and being a vegetarian it was bland and dry and just plain awful. My partner who was not a vegetarian suffered badly with food poisoning due to uncooked meat from a barbeque and this meant that he had to pull off a diving course and we missed another trip as a result. The gym had various pieces of equipment and facilities not working and the tennis courts were out of action throughout our stay. We did not stay full board as we were advised against it and found that we could not get drinks other than at breakfast and the bars would not let us have drinks unless we signed for them and added them to the bill. The worst thing was that my credit card was cloned and only an attempt to use it in Italy the day I was travelling back to the UK (spotted by my bank) allerted me to this.

i've just returned from a week at the Amphoras in sharm, Egypt. I went
with my sister and a friend for a girly week in the sun. We were slightly apprehensive before hand having heard bit about egypt, (the local men in particular) and reading some reviews about the hotel, but
once we had arrived this all disappered.

As soon as we arrived the staff were very helpful and friendly, and this continued until the moment we left. I could in no way fault any of the staff or the service we recieved. The pool and beach staff in particular were so nice and even rotated our sunbeds through out the day with the sun!!

I have worked for a major tour operator as a holiday rep so have learnt what to expect from hotels etc but can honestly say that the Amphoras lived up to and more of all our expectations.

The rooms were lovely, and i was so impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel i would have eaten from the floor. The pool areas were imaculate and even the beach was smoothed over daily. The security was
another plus, with a security guard at the front door 24/7 which made you feel at ease. The safes in the room are also free of charge.

We didn't really leave the hotel so i am unable to comment on the resort itself, but the hotel does have a few shops on site including a
pharmacy, snorkelling gear shop, tobaccinist, snacks and also a few gift shops. There is also a hairdressers/beauty salon. The hotel also has a health spa and gym, the gym is not very large and only really has weights in but we did get a massage which was wonderful and very reasonable.

The food, which was one of my main concerns before arriving as you hear so many stories about people being ill in egypt, the hotel has mainly italian guests and they are widely catered for with a lot of pasta, and you will also not see any pork/ham/bacon etc as it is not eaten in egypt, but the food is good quality and still has a wide choice. As well as the buffets hot and cold, in the evening they always had a bbq type thing with fish/chiken and lamb and was changed every night, and not one of us was even slightly ill.

The all inclusive part is slightly limited with the drinks and you can
only really get soft drinks, tea, coffee, beer, wine and vodka but after speaking to people from other hotels this was good.

If you do go to egpyt i'd definatly recommend going diving/snorkling, we also went on a boat trip to ras mohammed, a local national park, which was brillaint for snorkling, and we were lucky enough to get up close to a couple of dolphins.

The weather was really nice, warm during the day probably around 24 degrees but the wind did occasionally get a bit chilly but the evenings are cold so make sure you take a cardie!

The other thing that is definatly worth mentioning is the money, we took egpytion pounds, but if i go again i wouldn't bother as everyone accepts sterling and you get a much better price/exchange rate. They will also take euros, and american dollers though.

I would definatly go back to egypt and stay at the amphoras again with
no questions asked and throughally enjoyed myself.

Great Value

I stayed here end of November and should say that the hotel is really nice: personnel is not obtrusive (it happens in other hotels if you are a pretty blond girl ;), the hotel territory is nice and well-guarded, the hotel area is cool : I'd recommend to go shopping and chilling at El Mercato which is a modern mall just 7 minutes away by foot. The location is overall great! the beach is cool...Mostly Italians and Russian there, but if you don't like to be "animated" - this is the right place...If you want to be animated - you are very welcome! The animation team is great! Recommend for everyone!

Great Holiday

from chrissie55
We have just had a week's holiday at the Amphoras Beach with another couple. When we arrived we were told they had a lovely suite for us ... which they did and which we weren't expecting. We had accommodation consisting of 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lounge, kitchen & 2 seating balconies with another 2 balconies with french doors. We couldn't fault the accommodation at all. The 'suite' was always kept immaculately clean by the staff and just a small tip ($1 per bed per day - about 50p) saw wonderful towel creations on the beds complete with flowers! Our cleaner was both a star and a gentleman. We got the impression that the hotel staff definitely liked the English tourists. It is at the moment quite predominantly Italian & Russian and a few of the British guests seemed to quite resent this although I couldn't see why - they are just people enjoying a holiday like everyone else. The food was typical of multicultural guests. We tended to go the beach restaurant for lunch although they did the same food everyday. We'd gone for a really chilled holiday and didn't do any of the tours - they were expensive and we felt that we would prefer to go to Eygpt again - probably staying in Luxor or Cairo where the main attractions are nearer. We ventured into Narn Bay on 2 nights - it cost only £4 each way for the taxi (not per person). We had a very relaxing holiday, the weather was absolutely fantastic to say it was mid November (I actually got a touch of sunstroke on one day). If I had one moan about the hotel it would be that there is only 1 bar open at night although you can go to the club and pay for drinks if you want. The beach is quite lovely and the fish are absolutely amazing. I didn't go snorkelling but even in the shallow water (only up to knee height) you can see the most amazing fish. Fantastic. I can hardly fault this hotel. It is set in beautiful gardens with a manmade lagoon which goes right through the middle of the resort. There are about 6 swimming pools and because of this there was no overcrowding anywhere on the resort. I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone and given the opportunity I wouldn't hesitate at going back again.

Our trip to Sharm el Sheikh

My wife and I had a great time at Amphoras Holiday Resort. We took a submarine tour which was great and took a tour over to Luxor to see the Valley of the Kings and Queens and other sights. Everything was very safe. We walked around town and surrounding areas at night with no problems. The people were friendly and the language difference was not the barrier that we had thought it would.

had fab time

Not for English Tourists

from nikibwfc
The Hotel itself is very nice, very clean, the pools are lovely and the rooms are large and spacious.

The food however is awful, the same meals are served daily for breakfast and dinner and the evening meals rarely changes.

Not only is the food the same everyday but it is also not very nice.

You can only use your band to get drinks from one bar on the complex in the evening so you end up going to the same place everynight, and you can only eat at one of the restarants in the evening and two of the restarants at lunchtime.

The staff are very nice and polite, the hotel guests are mainly Italian, the entertainment is also in Italian.

The hotel is about 10 mins by taxi away from the main nightlife and bars and restaurants of Naama Bay, you should only pay about 30 Egyptian pounds (£3.00) for a taxi, however becareful because taxi drivers will quote you double this.

I would certainly reccomend people to go to this hotel but NOT to stay all inclusive.
