when we were shown to our family room we were absoutely delighted by the quality of the furnishings and the vista from our room.
we were late on arrival yet the room sevice was very quick in sending hot meals and drinks to the room, which was followed by a quiet restfull nights sleep ready for the next day.
Each day was just as pleasent, the food, service, beach, sea coast, and snorkling were perfect.
We did a 3 day stay in Cairo at the pyramicd parks hotel 5* which was good, but not as the golden view.
From the minute we arrived at the Renaissance golden view we all felt at home, and none of us wanted to leave. so much so we will be booking this holiday again next year.

Nothing at all to write home about!!
from YowfailedThe brochure describes it as a new hotel with excellent facilities. The main reception building could be described as such having been completed and opened in November 2003, the rest is unfortunately over 7 years old. As a previous Time Share complex it has merely been given a lick of paint and remarketed. Badly..
Problems with the complex include steps, poorly kept gardens, a general impression of age and pools that are not as hygenic as they seem (proven by a severe ear infection).
This is not an experience I would wish to repeat, at any cost. At best the hotel is 3 Star staffed by lovely people who make the whole experience enjoyable.
Best Holiday Ever !!
from A TripAdvisor MemberJust down the road from the Hotel is a place called Fantasia, this is a lovely place to eat as it has many restaurants, and there is free entertainment while you sit there enjoying your wine or beer!! The food is very good and really cheap. There is also a show nightly with a buffet dinner for about £18, the buffet dinner is excellent but the show was dissapointing.
What more can I say - this was truly a great place and we are booking to go again later this year
Never again
from A TripAdvisor MemberThis hotel is the worst 5 star I have ever stayed in. Here are my views..
Lobby - Possibly 5 star (but how long do you spend in a lobby?)
Grounds - Only 4 star (lots of cement issues and broken steps etc)
Rooms - Only 3 star (there was ripped bed linen, mouldy showers, other peoples hair not cleaned from the bathroom etc)
Everything at this hotel seemed like too much trouble and you would always be told to come back later on (they hoped you would forget). The service was atrocious - they want your money but do not know anything about customer service and care. In 5 star hotels in Dubai and Mauritius etc - the staff go out of their way to help (cleaning sunglasses on the beach etc) - whereas here there is none of that. I just can't understand how this hotel got a 5 star rating.
After a welcome bout of severe food poisoning - we decided to eat the Hilton Waterfalls next door - which really is a 5 star hotel.
Here are some other highlights of our holiday
1) The man cooking the eggs at breakfast sneezing and wiped his nose in full view of 4 people and just carried on cooking without washing his hands.
2) Been given a twin room as a married couple and they couldn't figure out why a kingsize was required even though this was booked in advance. It took 3 attempts (and 24 hours later) in 30 degrees plus heat to get this sorted (there were others with this problem)
3) We saw so many people with complaints that we lost count by the end of our week.
4) At breakfast between hotel guests - tables were never cleaned - they never even had a wet cloth to do this
5) They advertise sea-view rooms but this can mean seeing the sea from 1/2 km away - don't expect panoramic views from the room.
6) This is not a clean, hygenic hotel in the slightest.
As for previous comments that have said this hotel is "amazing" and "brilliant" were they staying at the same hotel? We made the mistake of booking this hotel - please don't make the same mistake. Pay a little extra (£100 or so) and stay at another resort.
I wouldn't even stay at this hotel again if they offered to give me a totally free all-inclusive holiday (and spending money).
We are still unwell from the food-poisoning and it seems we were not the only ones.
Hope this review helps and tells the true story of this hotel.
Not worthy of its 5 star rate
from A TripAdvisor Memberfacilities for the disabled.Rooms and beach are located away from the main building and involves climbing 150 steps from the beach to the dining rooms.Although there are three pools situated at different levels each with its own bar and resteraunt of sorts.
Apart from the lobby of the hotel which looks 5 star, the rest of the hotel is probably 3 star. This is supposed to be a recently new hotel but the grounds are poorly kept and the rooms are looking tired and worn.these look much older than the 12 months we were told the hotel had been open.
Several people including ourselves had great problems with card keys to the rooms. The keys seemed to work once or twice then refused to open the door.In all we went through 12 keys over a two week period. Each time the key failed, instead of the problem being investigated and rectified, another key was programed with the inevitable result that it would work twice and then refuse to open the door.for anyone with a room at beach level, those stairs were a killer, because they had to climb to reception to get a new key.
There was supposed to be a Golf Buggy service from reception to beach but this was not in evidence and was not advertised so the only alternative was those steps or a long treck up a winding road in the scortching heat.
On the plus side, the staff were a credit to the hotel, without exception they were kind, polite, eager to please and showed a great sense of humour.
No way would I stay at this hotel again.
Nice hotel, but not worthy of 5 star rating.
from A TripAdvisor Member1) There were 100's of steps ( no exaggeration) which had to be climbed on a daily basis to reach either the reception or the beach. We are a young fit couple who attend the gym on a daily basis, but even these steps were a challenge for us in the scorching heat. There are alternative slopes down to the beach, however these routes take twice as long.
2) Breakfast - Every morning we had to wait up to 10 mins at a time to receive tea or coffee on our table. Once we received the hot water, it was often luke warm. In addition the tables were not wiped regularly & were often sticky.
3) The Hotel charged GBP9.00 per person for a lunch buffet, which was served by the top pool. The buffet was edible, but extremely expensive in comparison to other 5 satr hotels in the area (i.e the Hilton next door). If you were unfortunate to have a sunbed near the buffet, you were smoked out on a daily basis by the BBQ and subsequently smelt of bonfire smoke throughout the rest of the day. In addition the bread & cakes were eaten by the local birds who regularly feasted themselves on the food.
4) The hotel charged GBP1.30 for a bottle of water (plus local tax in the hotel shop) However 5 mins down the road from the hotel, water could be purchased for 20 pence from the local supermarket.
5) Although the hotel is only a year old, the workmanship is very shabby. There are already alot of broken steps. People were complaining about broken showers, balconies etc...
The hotel is situated approx 5 mins away from Naama bay via taxi. The taxis cost approx GBP 3.50 and the experience was unforgettable. The Taxi drivers drive like maniacs in clapped out old bangers- fortunately the roads are one way. In the end, we paid a slight premium to use the 'budget' taxi at the hotel. It was well worth the extra expense - 'Ghareeb' the driver was an excellent tour guide, spoke very good English & gave us his mobile number in order that we could call him to pick us up whenever we required him to do so.
On a brighter note, the weather was fantastic , the snorkelling is out of this world - in fact better than in the Carribean & evertthing outside the hotel was so cheap - you struggled to spend money. In fact we ended up going home with more money than we started with due to a successful night in the casino ( the Grand Sinai) which is well worth a visit.
I can recommend a visit to the Indian Restaurant at the Sofitel hotel. Extremely nice food & excellent views over the bay. The pizza hut in the bay was clean & very cheap with excellent service. TheItalian restaurant at the hilton hotel next door to the hotel was cheap, delicious food with 1st class service! On the otherhand the 'El Fanar'- Italian Cave restaurant was very well decorated, but the food was not cooked very well & we ended up suffering from severe upset stomachs the following day
I hope you find this review helpful. It was our 1st time in Egypt and it really was an experience. Its hard to imagine what it was like - just picture a hotel in the middle of the desert with building going on all around. Then picture Blackpool in the middle of the desert & that its the best way i can describe Naama bay. If this is your type of holiday, enjoy!!!
We would go back to Sharm El Sheikh, but in hindsight would definately stay at the Hilton Waterfalls hotel on a half board basis. We spent a lot of time at this hotel & it truly was worthy of a 5 star rating , unlike the renaissance which i would rate as a 4 star!
Fantastic in EVERY way
from kiluThe family room we stayed in was very spacious and well equipped and so clean and comfortable.
Although the choice of restaurants is limited, the quality of food was very good, especially breakfast, and within 10 minutes you're in the resort centre where there are several restaurants. Further along the beach there is the "cave" which is another beautiful restaurant if you wanted to avoid a night in town.
All in all, a fantastic holiday, great location and a stunning hotel, definately returning later in the year!!
lots of steps!
from TERRYKENStunning location, weather almost perfect, superb breakfasts, great lunch at the Mexican restaurant and a fascinating Italian restaurant in a purpose-built 'cave' next door the hotel. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. However, be warned - there are LOTS of steps and really unsuitable for people with walking or breathing difficulties. Some hotels have a funicular tram to enable guest to travel easily between the main buildings and the beach but not this hotel.
Also Sharm El Sheikh Airport must win the award for one of the most chaotic in the world!
s desire
from sueronayneThe house reef with it's floating jetty was amazing and my family complained that I couldn't be dragged out of the water, the variety of fish seen surpassed anything seen on either of the trips we ventured out to see. We took snorkelling equipment with us but it could have been bought in the hotel shop, in Naama bay(a taxi ride away) or hired from the dive centre. Being a glasses wearer, I bought a pair of prescription goggles which were well worth the expense, the coral and fish wer fabulous- I think you are getting my drift I enjoyed the experience!!! Went on to trips by boat to Ros Mohammed national park very nice and and excellent full day jeep safari through the Sinai desert , to an oasis, meeting bedouins, snorkelling, then lunch, a spectacular 1 1/2 hr camel ride along a rocky coast to the blue hole for more snorkelling , shopping in Dahab - a trip not to be missed. Will try diving next time. Only down point- Haggling with taxi drivers in Naama bay, quite an unerving experience
Excellent Holiday all round!! - 5 star in every way
from beeloxThe beach is partially man made as the hotel is on a headland - the beach is on different levels finally ending up at little coves at sea level. Sun loungers are available at all levels along with towels. Snorkling here is excellent you see as much as when you dive. There is a floating jetty which you walk along to take you over the shallow water/coral to the deeper water.
There is a dive centre on the beach that does the usual padi courses and dive excursions - they are quite reasonable and very knowledgable - we used them for 5 dives without problems.
Pools ; - there are 4 pools - all surrouned by sun loungers and all in excellent condition. the one nearest the beach has a pool bar/restaurant and a swim up bar..all are tended by pool boys who will obtain your sun lounger/umberella/towels for you and place them whereever you want to go. These lads are most helpful and a tip goes a long way to securing you the best postions each day...
Again Restaurants, there is as others have said not much choice - if you are there for one week then there is more than enough choice - but why do people want to stay and eat in the hotel every evening?? Naama Bay is less than 10 mins away and there are literally hundreds of restaurants there I can recommend The hard rock cafe absolute bargain - 3 course for 3 people with drinks all night and change from 30 pounds...there is also a brilliant tandoori/indian restaurant at the Camel bar/hotel in Naama that i can vouch for..
back to the hotel - we stayed bed and breakfast and breakfast is an occasion in its self. its served from 0700 - 1100 if you want any food earlier you can book a breakfast box to take away with you. At breakfast you are accompanied to a table where a waiter will bring you fresh coffee and tea, its then up to you to help yourself. There are a selection of about 6 different fresh juices..proper fresh as in freshly squeezed. There are Cereals, Fresh tropical fruits, Cheese, meats, Omlettes to order, waffles pancakes, a full varierty of pastries - there must be about 20 different sorts. Every type of bread/toast you can think of and then there is the hot buffett, with items such as beef sausage, beef bacon (tastes like pork to me) veal sauasage, chicken sausage, scrambled egg, fried potatoe, tomatoes and some strange breakfast choices each day such as Chilli con carne or corned beef hash!!
The general maintenance around the hotel was excellent and the gardens were spectacular..if anything needed doing you just mentioned it and someone was there to do it within minutes..
If you are staying here you WONT BE dissapointed.....
Very disappointing
from docajenkWe stayed one night and then moved to the Hilton Sharm Waterfalls resort, which is next door. It was the same price and truely outstanding in all respects.
Top Local Tips for Sharm El Sheikh
some tips camel ride, quatrocycle or horse ride expect to get dirty. Learn how to ignore street vendors, all of them would want to know where you from and invite you to see their shop for free, if you follow their demands, you'll never leave Egypt, ever!!!
Hand Wash Gel The money is very dirty and reportedly the primary cause of tummy upsets so I reccomend you purchase some hadwash that doesn't require water and use it EVERY time before you eat or drink. We did and had not health problems during our trip.
Airport arrival Take a large dose of valium before you arrive in the airport. It is enough to test the metal or the most travelled tourists. At least if you have been before you know what to expect, but to the uninitiated, it is nothing short or disorganised chaos. If you can't find your bag, always go to the end of the conveyor belt, there is usually a very helpful/tip searching Egyptian removing all the bags that get that far!!!!
