Good value for money

from The Diver
I stayed for one week at Novotel in Sharm. It has a a very nice lobby with very efficient check-in personnel. My room was tidy, average sized and clean. The purpose of my visit to Sharm was diving with friends. They stayed at the Four Seasons, so I spent every day + evening at the Four Seasons Hotel. That is a very beautiful hotel. Next time in Sharm I will stay there. The dive operation at the Four Seasons Hotel is GREAT! The only dive operation in Sharm with fast rib boats taking you express to and from the dive sites at the Straits of Tiran. Breakfast at Novotel was OK - buffet style, typical breakfast foods with some Egyptian dishes thrown in. In summary, Novotel was good value for what you paid for, but naturally could not compare in any way with the Four Seasons Hotel.

Stayed at the hotel for only one night, had to move to another. We requested a king room, which they had only a few, and were promised one. At time of check in the king room was not available or ready so they moved us in another. The hotel staff speaks very little english and not at all professional. They seemed to be too young and inexperienced. The food at the buffet restaurant was horrible. We tried dinner and after two bites we left. We tolerated the breakfast buffet which was a "bread buffet." Their idea of orange juice is Tang. The lobby was beautiful, rooms just average. Choose another hotel.

Very attentive staff!!!!

Well, we have just arrived home to a very wet and windy England.....Sharm seems like a world away. The weather was perfect. As to the hotel, well as one other reviewer put it this is not a 5 star hotel, the decor is somewhat dated now, but it's clean, the rooms are very spacious, and I would say 90% command a view over Naama Bay, however you are looking over the town and all the blinking neon lights as well. Be aware though the hotel (as most of sharm) is in the direct flight path of the airport, so you get planes landing at all hours....although the room was very soundproofed, no problems with noise the walls are really thick....did hear the odd scraping of balcony chairs above in the early hours but nothing major. Being not really interested in diving, spent most of the holiday by the pool, the main pool just outside reception is ok, lots of kids and only gets the sun for a few hours of the morning. So if you want the sun head for the 3rd floor!!! (yes i know bear with me!). I can see why most people find it difficult to find (there are no signs for a start!!!!), go up to the 3rd floor (in the left hand lift), exit and turn right down to what you think is a fire exit (but its a clear door), security guard outside, head up the two flights of steps, 1 minute walk and you have the pick of an olympic pool (with jacuzzi apparently!) to the left (toilets are here too!), lazy pool to the right (the best one we found) - has kids pool as well...and a further smaller pool further round the villas to the right.

The staff are very attentive by the pool, if they get used to you they ensure that your sunbeds are laid out for you each day and no-one else nabs them!!! A little costa del sol, but without having to get out of bed at the crack of dawn! We actually ended up with 4 sundeds by the end of the first week, 2 in the shade/sun!!!! (They even moved the beds around for us in the direction of the sun when we wanted....I think they were bored!)It was very quiet, but we liked that...and the personable service the staff offered, they all said hello and remembered the excursions you were going on which made you feel very welcome and part of the furniture, the pool food was good and hot bearing in mind they had to traipse a bit to go and get it for you down in the main restaurant.

First night as we were late in we decided to try the hotel Palm restaurant (where breakfast is held), the food was ok, had buffet chinese style (approx £25 including wine), was quite acceptable and plenitful...the wine is something else however, if it's egyptian I would avoid it as it does tend to taste a little like paint stripper, unless your prepared to pay £28 for a semi decent cotes to rhone don't bother, stick to the beer (Meister is quite nice!).

The hotel has got two excellent restaurants however outside, the Mexican is really good, great atmosphere and attentive service, whilst the Little Buddha next door offers thai/sushi menu, this is top end price for sharm what you would expect to pay at home, but well worth it, linen napkins for a start...but take your torch as it can be hard to read the menu in the dim lights, turns into a nightclub/disco upstairs at midnight....really nice and funky!!

Overall the hotel is very adequate for the resort, right in the heart of Naama Bay, so in walking/stumbling distance of the restaurants/bars. Very clean (lost count of the amount of times the reception floor was being polished!!).

One word of advice, the staff (as in most hotels) are hell bent on tips....and no wonder (av wage = 250 egyptian pound per month (ie £25!) We gave £5 at the end of each week to staff (Pool, restaurant, pool bar, cleaners) etc as we thought this was more than fair, when you chat to them you realise we don't have it so bad!!

The only thing that let the hotel down was the entertainment, whether it was because it was quiet I don't know. But having a bit of line dancing and dodgy karaoke a holiday does not make!!

ve ever stayed

from Sal1972
The Novotel is ideally located on the beach and 5 minutes walk from the centre of Naama bay. The staff were very friendly with some going out of their way to help. Rooms were spotless, well equipped and quiet. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the food was fantastic. We ate in the Italian restaurant and the Coral restaurant and would recommend both. The pool area was again spotless and loungers were available at all times of the day. No rushing to reserve loungers whatever time of day which made our stay even more relaxing. The Novotel has a large stretch of beach with well maintained loungers and umbrellas well spaced. Again loungers were available at all times of the day. Snorkelling equipment was available to borrow free of charge. The bar area was open all day with friendly helpful staff. The evening entertainment ranged from a very talented singer to traditional dancing which was very impressive. A mini disco provided entertanment for the children but it was all very low key and there was no pressure to join in if you didn't want to. Much better than the tacky entertainment we've experienced elsewhere. The management were friendly and chatted to guests in the bar area. We had relatives staying at the Sonnesta Club resort and visited them a couple of times but couldn't wait to get back to our hotel as Sonnesta was dirty, loud, and tacky. The pool area was crammed with broken, dirty loungers, the floor was slimey and the service poor. The bar area was filthy and it took 30 minutes to order a drink. We were at the Novotel when the explosions happened and despite this we can't wait to book again for next year. Fantastic Hotel, perfect location the best place we have ever stayed.

s cracked up to be

The Naama Bay hotel portrays itself as a 5 star hotel but I would say it is more like a very good 3 star. The location is excellent (if you like to be in the centre of the hustle and bustle that is), the size of the rooms generous, the food basic and generally the friendliness of the staff is very good. However, it doesn't have the luxury of a 5 star hotel nor the service you would expect. Saying that we had a wonderful time and we were pleasantly surprised to find an additional two large swimming pools up at the top/back of the hotel complex (albeit on the last day).

Nice hotel shame about the service !!

We stayed at this hotel July 2004 ( 2 adults 45 , 45)

We had been to Sharm el sheikh before and had seen this hotel and thought it looked immaculate so decided to book it, but sadly the outward glorious facade hides a badly run hotel.
Firstly to be fair we had emailed in advance to request specific room requirements which they did provide.
The rooms and shower room were beautiful -the airconditioning was superb- the bed a lovely 6 foot double!
The rooms were very well presented and large - plenty of space, large well furnished balcony and sea view - one of the few hotels in Naama bay to offer nearly all their rooms facing the sea which was lovely. The maid service was excellent !

The pool area was good and the beach was private with comfy sunbeds and fluffy towels - excellent entertainment team who worked hard everyday - remembered you from day one but thankfully took 'no' for an answer! They love Volleyball!!
Beach sandy but a slowly dying coral reef in front of the beach which some idiots were trying to ride a pedalo across without regard for the reef life. Yet another piece probably broken and destroyed.

The Health Spa was superb - we would definately recommend a massage the surroundings are really beautiful and 5 star - class !
It is just such a shame that the dining room, food, and bar service was simply awful. Admittedly we were surrounded by mainly Arabs (whose children thought that to take everything off the breakfast buffet and then cover it in honey and leave it in the centre of their table was nomal) and they of course had the edge as they spoke the same language!
There were no clean tables as the waiters did not clear the dirty tables away immediately etc so you were left standing there without any direction from the waiters, or ended up clearing your own table to find somewhere to eat.

The Pool bar staff were always complaining about the bad management- for example the new stock was not delivered until 1000 am and then had to be unpacked and put into the fridges- be cool enough to serve at 1030 - but only one waiter was on duty trying to achieve this, rather than restock the night before. Also the menus were out of date and the prices all different,so you thought you were overcharged. The bar food was COLD when you got it as it had to come from the hotel's kitchen which was almost an impossibility in the heat of the summer- in fact we still dont know how they managed to serve cold chips in 54C!!
The food in the beach restaurant was very well presented and the service better than in breakfast or in the bar -still a little laid back though but immaculate marble floors on the beach!!
The entertainment programme especially at night seemed to be well attended and was normally followed by arabs in the pool at midnight when the pool temperature was still a pleasant 37C!!!
We felt overall that this was a beautiful hotel lacking in strong management and therefore basic service to its customers was denied which was a shame, as the hotel itself is in a good position (about 10 minute walk from the strip in Naama Bay) is well maintained, has beautiful
rooms and gardens but is just lacking in basic customer service.
Good point its not too far from an excellent dive school -oonas!!

Some of the review are not the hotel I stayed in

from Susie20055
I have posted on this hotel before, and the other reviews are not of the hotel I stayed in. The hotel is excellent. It only has one pool. So the other reviews must be of another hotel. My review is of the Namma Bay hotel Which is opposite the Hard Rock Cafe.
This hotel is faultless and no I don't have shares in it, but stop there many times. and am happy to recomend it to any one.

Fantastic Hotel

We stayed in the Novotel Coralia in late June early july 2004. We couldn't fault the place. Our room was immaculate although small and so was the bathroom but big enough for two people easily. The staff were all very friendly although the guy at the pool bar was a bit up himself but who wouldn't be having to serve drinks and food all day in temperatures in exess of 40C. The pool staff were all delightful as well as reception staff and i personally thought the breakfast was amazing. There was a fully equiped gym to use as well as a private beach with snorkels and towels loaned free. The whole place felt 5 star to me and i recomend it wholeheartedly. Around 7pm each night they came around to the rooms with clean warm bath towels for your evening wash even though the bathroom had been cleaned and restocked during the day! Amazing!
