Not usual Marriott experience...

We stayed for 7 nights in September at the Marriott Beach Resort in Sharm, having stayed at the Marriott Beach resorts in Thailand before. Quite disappointing compared to the ones in Thailand. Room ok, although had booked and paid extra for Sea view but on arrival was told none available and we would have to have Garden view. Still trying to obtain refund for this from Thomas Cook...
Bathroom was quite shabby. Cleaning not good - had to ask to have the room cleaned several times. Mini bar not restocked fully ever. Food was poor and expensive. Electricity failed in the hotel twice in the week - and at temperatures of 43 degrees, this was not pleasant! Staff ok, not usual Marriott standards though. Wouldn't go again.
Great holiday

On our holiday, we went- as 2 young couples, and had a fantastic time. The hotel staff were very friendly and the food and drinks were very reasonable. Would really like 2 go back soon.

I am writing this review after 2 years because since I have been to so many places like Tunisia, Turkey, Spain, Cyprus. I have to say this holiday was the best for me and my family. The hotel was just tooooooo good, we really enjoyed ourselves, it is far better than the other country's I have visited, this hotel is highly recommended, I am planning to go Egypt again and stay at Marriott.
The weakest Marriott hotel I ever stay

It is the first hotel where we asked the staff to clean the room. The food was poor to good with not so much variety - even we had HB we prefer to eat outside the hotel.
The Marriott is the best by far.

This hotel is the cleanest I have ever stayed in, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the food was excellent with a large variety of meals to choose from. It is only 20 minutes walk into the centre of Naama bay where there are excellent restaurants to eat also. The Hilton Fish Restaurant is worth a visit. There is also a variety of shops to buy gifts in Naama bay. The Aquarius Diving School was excellent at teaching Padi open water divers and the diving was amazing in the Red Sea. I dont think I will ever experience better conditions to dive in. The visability was excellent. It was like daylight eighteen metres deep. The fish and coral were so colourful. It was an amazing holiday and I would go back to Egypt any time for a repeat visit.
A great holiday

A fabulous holiday the hotel is in a quite position in the centre of Narm Bay with breathtaking snorkling just a walk across the sand of the Marriott beach.
The service was superb the staff friendly and attentive the buffet breakfast too copious! but excellent quality the Italian reauarant "Parmizzano's" was simply the best food we tasted in the resort the seabass with a parmesan crust to be tried and savoured as were the veal chops baked slowly in a clay potwith a delightful rich gravy and you know we Brits are gravy mad. The food is so good but then a top French Chef Ex-Savoy London manages all the food.
The rooms were bigger than other hotels we stayed at in the resort unfortunatly no brew facilities in the rooms to make tea so take a water heater I forgot but one cost just £1 in town.
The room service 24x7 was fast! a great movie washed down with a beer and Marriott burger or pizza matched any I have had in the US.
A superb hotel fabulous swimming pool great food and service and it has to be the competition is fierce but we will be going back again as we have found it the best of 3 we have stayed at.

Loved the Marriott Mountain

from CharlietheRabbit
Brilliant. We stayed at the Marriott Mountain but made use of some of the facilities the Beach resort as well (fitness suite, restaurants etc). I cannot offer any criticism - the pool area is huge, the rooms are excellent and maintained to a high standard. The staff in the restaurant, bar, reception and all other areas are exceptionally friendly and attentive and the location is excellent. This is the most relaxing holiday that we have ever had.

nice resort

from 1872
very nice resort hotel, nice beach, room service. Make sure when you book you room to request beach side, other wise you will have to cross a busy 4 lane street to get to the beach. Close to good shopping. Be careful the shop owners will lie to you to get you in their shops, by telling you that they want to give you a business card but that is a lie.

Love it then hate it then love it etc.

Rooms: They werent very good at all. Both our TVs were broken (took 2 rooms) and the ethernet did not work. The toilets flood and the shower isnt too clean. The drawers dont open for many things and found a cockaroach in my bed. The floor is tile which isnt too nice. We had a power outtage for the whole freakin hotel for no reason! Nothing worked. Positives is the beds are comfy they have world cup soccer.

The food was good especially at the Beach BBQ. Highly suggest it. Not too pricy. But the breakfast isnt the best. They do not know what oatmeal is and only one chef knew how to cook eggs other ways than over easy.

The pool is very nice with hand ball (soccer with the hands) and a volleyball net. The beach is wonderful! The coral reefs is there after maybe 5 steps into the water (watch your step though its rocky) There were big fish already at this point and maybe 15 species with oysters and unfortunately one sea urchin. Remember since there are corral reefs here sharks are common in that shallow area in dawn and dusk. During day though there is nothing but fish so it's ok. (Turst me its ok Im fearful of the sea and I ventured quite far) So dont take dumb risks and always swim with a partner. Also at the beach there are nude sunbathers so your kids might be asking questions.

The gym area is below par. If you are 6'5 your head could easily touch the ceiling.

Theres my review. Now the rooms are going under renovation 1 month after I leave so the rooms might be better.

absolutely fab place!!!

Hi myself and my boyfriend just returned from Sharm on Monday - we had a fab time the hotel is lovely cannot say one bad thing about it. Staff so friendly and nice made feel really important. Food, rooms, Pool area all were brilliant. We used the Beach side pool also as this has a swim up bar. It is directly on the beach and 5 mins walk along the beach into Namma Bay. We found the food really cheap here but alcohol was quite expensive. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone old and young.
We were a little nervous about going as people were saying we should not be going there as it is dangerous but we never had any problems and everyone was really friendly and helpful. This was the best holiday i have been on by far!!!

Relaxing Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
During my last trip dated June 2006 at Sharm El Sheikh Marriott Beach Resort, I was really impressed by the friendly stuff and the quality of service, the pool and the beach is amazing, very relaxing with its crystal bright colors. The location of the hotel is really one of the best as it is in the center of Naama Bay the most popular place in Sharm. Me and my husband enjoyed the guest rooms very much as it is comfretable, cozy, simple, & bright. We really enjoyed our stay there and I wish to travel again and stay at the Marriott very soon!!

Very interesting!

We have just returned from Sharm. Not what I expected. Hotel was very clean and friendly. We had an excellent half board deal. Room had 2 movie channels, sport, cnn and comedy channel and was well appointed with a fridge and lovely towels and lotions. The cleaner made an amazing crocodile out of towels one day and ahuge heart the next. Also there were free mixed tea bags and coffee, but no kettle. Buffet breakfast had waffles and eggs cooked to order. Dinner had carvery usually beef and lamb fish, soup, pasta, salad, local foods, chicken, cheese board, cakes and nice bread. In both cases the food was fine and filling. Processed meat and sausages were bland as was morning fruit juice whose flavours I could never work out. The hotel was full of italians and east europeans who were dicovering the rules for buffets. Overeat by 100% and leave 50%. Not to mention push in wherever possible as if all food will disappear in 10 seconds. Although the food was decent. Eating in a constantly mobile room twice a day became tiresome. Staff however were excellent very friendly and polite. The pool was large and drinks were reasonable $4 for a large beer $1 a large bottle of water. Though buying outside and stocking up your room fridge is useful and alot cheaper.
The negatives about this hotel was that there was little on site additional entertainment. Also though in a good place to walk into Naamma bay you had to cross a busy dual carriageway and walk though Marriott beach hotel.
We took 2 trips 1001 nights ($40) which was a huge disappointment and snorkling at Ras Mohammed ($45)both included a decent meal and the snorkrling unlimited soft drinks. This was great as the sea is just full of friendly brightly coloured fish we even saw a dolpin up close, once you have finally got underway there were 3 differnet snorkelling stops all were good.
Eating away from the hotel was again cheap spagetti and a pizza and 2 beers for $20. The old market is interesting but we found the whole shopping experience stressful. You are constantly harrassed and tricked into buying things you don't want at a price you have no idea about. Traders start off friendly then become hostile if you don't want to buy. If you plan to buy know the price you want to pay before hand. This is the most negative aspect to Sharm. There are absolutely no prices for anything outside your hotel.
Taking a taxi was an experience. Find out prices from others in advance then agree before getting into your 20 year Peugot with no working seat belts or much else. Best of all travel blindfolded!
Hygiene was very good and noone I knew of had tummy troubles. The weather was hot but windy some days.

Had a great time

from lazylisa
We've just returned from a stay at the Marriott Mountain view and the Marriott Beach. I'll start with the Mountain view - we stayed here for our first 7 nights. Our room was in one of the blocks at the very far end of complex, very quiet and had a nice little pool. Our room was very nice, 2 double beds and a creative cleaner (he made a crocodile & a peacock out of our towels!). The main pool area was obviously busier. There is a nice pool bar which serves food too. We were on a HB basis, the food in the restaurant was nice but we did find it rather busy so you had to judge when was the best time to go.
Marriott Beach - we stayed here for our last 4 nights (inbetween time we'd been to Cairo for 3 nights - see my Cairo review for info on that). They "upgraded" us to this side of the hotel, across the road from the mountain view. we were again happy with our room, although I think the room at the mountain view was better. This side was alot quieter in the evenings, especially in the restaurant so it seemed less hassle to have dinner. the pool was nice. You were right near the beach, which was very nice and clean with waiters popping around every now again. You didn't need to pay for sunbeds, umbrellas or towels it was all complimentary. We would definitely stay at either of these again in the future.

Had a great experience

from NYNY99
I stayed at the Marriott in March 2006 with a large group of American business school students.

Overall, we had a great experience. This is not the Four Seasons by any stretch, but the Marriott is a very nice option. The beds were very nice - akin to the Westin Heavenly Bed. We had a small balcony with chairs that overlooked the pool. The beach is private, very scenic and has wooden chaise lounges with cushions (although I didn't see a single waiter on the beach my entire stay).

The hotel is in an excellent location, just a 15 minute walk down the boardwalk from Naama Bay with great shopping and nightlife. Taxis are very cheap and easily accessible.

I hear that the hibachi restaurant in the hotel is quite nice.

Definitely not 5 star

from AusUK
I stayed with my female friend at the Marriott mountain in March and found it quite mixed. The staff were mostly friendly, and the rooms quite spacious. We had a few problems though - we didn't get our requested non-smoking room, the toilet overflowed and the cleaner took hours to come (and then just mopped up with more water), the hot water in the shower didn't work on two of our seven nights, the internet service didn't work and the staff were very reluctant to refund. On the plus side, nice pools, always found decent sun lounges, nice food with a good variety, very close to Naama Bay, which has great restaurants (the Mexican was the best) and it's easy to get across the road to the Marriott Beach to use their facilities (their pool was less crowded). The other guests were mostly older/elderly couples when we went. Overall, having stayed in a variety of resorts and hotels all over the world, this would only just scrape in as a 3.5/4 star in my opinion.
