Hell-omy

Extremely disapointed. Fawlty Towers would be a better name for this hotel.
1st day the bathroom window fell out, A/C leaked all over my daughters bed. Staff were friendly but unable to help, the standard reply (with a smile) "It Broken"
1 day we got roast beef for dinner. Ended up using it to level the table. Not for the feint hearted.

Basic Hotel but with an ideal postion

from Taffy45
Have just returned from a week in this hotel and fully concur with most other posters. It is shabby around the edges and a number of rooms are better than others, only go B&B as no entertainment to warrant All Inclusive.

Snorkling from this hotel is far better than the Naama bay beach and it is like sitting in an aquarium.

Towels and sheets have seen better days and a lick of paint here and there is needed however for its price, location, helpfulness and friendliness you cannot beat it.

Accept its a place to lay your head, be prepared to visit a nubmer of rooms before you accept a room and go with the flow and you won't go far wrong

Would I return? Yes for the stunning views and the hotel postion is within walking distance of Naama Bay. I previously stayed at the LTI Grand Azur and prefer this hotel's position but accept the standard of the rooms, facilities etc is easily beaten by the LTI. However so was the price of the holiday

We enjoyed it!!

We've just returned from our All Inclusive week away at the Halomy having had an excellent time. The hotel is situated above the town which means that although you are only a five minute walk away from the centre, you are not affected by the noise from below. The comments people have written about the place needing a slap of paint are true, but to us not that important-we were there to work on the old tan and try our hand at snorkelling not sit in our rooms looking at the walls!! The important bits about lots of hot water, air con (effective though somewhat noisy), someone to make your bed and leave clean towels (in very artistic patterns!!) and comfy beds were all there and the hotel had a very welcoming feel about it.

The pool was a tad nippy when we first arrived, but warmed up considerably during the week. The staff were incredably friendly and always eager to talk/give advice (the reference to them being like playful children was very apt!). And the day trip with the dive centre to Ras Mohammid was absolutely amazing-very much worth the £18. We also had a massage, which was lovely and good value for money. The hotel's beach was also great for snorkelling off-it really was like sticking your head in a tropical fish tank!

We found that the AI was worth it for the drinks alone (although would consider only going B&B next time). Food was fine- nothing to write home about, but served its purpose (especially the pancakes for breakfast!!) We did tend to go out most evenings to eat though. We also joined in with a couple of the evening 'do's' which were cheap and fun to do. Accessability could be an issue for those unsteady on their feet or with small children, but we were advised about this before booking.

All in all the Halomy offered us an excellent break for a cheap price- something we hope to repeat in the not too distant future!!

Loved it, again

This was our second visit to the Halomy in a year and loved it just as much as the first. All the staff were just as warm and friendly and remembered us. I went there with my daughter and had a wonderful time. We have kept in contact with quite a few people by msm because we found them to be very warm and genuine. The rooms were adequate, always clean and refreshed everyday. The food was varied and always plentiful. Mohamed massage is lovely. Adbul always had our towels on our sunbeds. Mustafa was always there with my wine. Khalid was the perfect barman. Mody the manager was always there to assist with all your needs, dealing with any situation that arose with a very professional manner. I have stayed at the Fantazia and the Sonesta but i prefere this hotel because it is good value for money and its situation is perfect. The steps to Naama Bay are quilte energetic but after sunbathing and lazing out all day it can only do you good (we had lost 3 pounds when we came home). We ate out twice but just because we wanted to vary our venues. I would not recommend this hotel for young children but only because of the man made beach and steps. The views are wonderful and we just cant wait to go back.

Good Value

My wife and I spent 2 weeks at Halomy and enjoyed every minute. We were on the 'All Inclusive' package, which was worth the extra cost in drinks alone! The staff are excellent workers, and very friendly, and the management are always around to deal with problems in a very prompt and efficient manner. We had a fabulous view over the bay from our room, and the rooms are larger than expected, but take a kettle if you like coffee etc. in your room (or buy one for £6 in Naama Bay like we did!). There is a fridge and TV in the rooms, and a big double bed, with 2 sofa-type beds in an L shaped layout. I agree that the hotel is 'tired', and some decorating is overdue, but it is kept clean and tidy, and the rooms are thoroughly cleaned every day, with fresh (if a little worn) towels provided daily. My wife organised a birthday surprise for me, and Muhammed (the very friendly manager)provided a massive fresh fruit and cream gateau, made in the hotels excellent pastry section of the kitchen, a bunch of carnations and roses, a bottle of local red wine, and had the room guy produce a stunning 'towel-art' presentation piece, which must have taken an hour at least! All this cost my wife £20! I dread to think what some of the 'posher' hotels would have charged! Everbody comments on the fish-life just off the hotels' beach terrace, and my wife couldn't believe her eyes when she had her first try at snorkelling! Although she didn't used to like putting her head underwater, this holiday has cured her of that! We paid £140 each to fly to Luxor and tour the Valley of The Kings, Karnak and Luxor Temples, and a boat ride on the Nile. Although it adds to the cost of the holiday, it is absolutely worth every penny! The guide was an Egyptology student, who spoke very good English, and he explained everything in a very professional and organised way. We had a problem on the river when our boat broke down, but one 'phone call and another boat appeared from nowhere to 'rescue' us within minutes! The whole trip was wonderful, leaving the hotel at 5.30am and returning at 10pm. We will return to Naama Bay, and certainly stay at Halomy when we do, and would recomend the hotel to anyone who doesn't have mobility problems, as it not very 'Disabled Friendly', with steps and crazy-paving paths around the grounds. The hotel is at the top of a cliff, but the steps down to the town are reasonably wide, and benches are provided at intervals if you need to rest. The great thing is that you are far enough away from Naama Bay not to be kept awake all night by the 'Eurotrash' style disco's, but near enough to walk into town when you feel like a bit of a change! All in all a great holiday destination!

we LOVED it!

Just got back from a weeks stay at the Halomy. I travelled with my children ages 9, 13 and 16 and we had a fantastic time! The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. Food was excellent, a lot of variety and great for my vegetarian daughter. We especially loved the puddings! The location is perfect, overlooking Naama Bay with easy access to excellent snorkling and the nightlife of the bay. It is also beautifully set out with well cared for plants. The hotel was slightly shabby in places and it could do with a bit of repair and updating but it didn't bother us. It was good value for money and we would definately go again.

Great

Great service. Great room. Medium size pool (very cold water!). Food was below average.

Acceptable to quite good-you get what you pay for-needs modernisation!

We were dubious about this hotel from the start and unfortunately it did disappoint a little. It must be said though that the staff are most helpful and friendly. The hotel's shop-keeper,Hisham,deserves a special mention. He was exceptionally warm and helpful. However, some staff, especially the self-proclaimed massage-master,Mohammed,could be pushy with sales. The rooms are clean but extremely tired, with staining on our bathroom tile floor. The size of our "family room"was very good for the two of us. It would definitely be a squeeze for more than two people. Our room was on the 1st floor with an excellent sea view of Naama Bay,from the balcony. The room's fridge was handy to keep your drinks cool. There was plentiful hot water from the shower.Bring your own towels if you want them in pristine condition. The hotel's location was ideal-only 5 minutes walk to Naama Bay centre.

We were half board and wished we were B&B,as the food was very variable in quality and uninspiring. The bread @breakfast was fresh, though we did sometimes see flys @the buffet area, which the staff weren't concerned about. With the evening meals,we only ate in twice,as the food seemed too basic.

The hotel's beach was adequate and private, with a shabby jetty to the sea. The snorkelling is a must,as the fish are amazing-with so many exotic colours and varieties.

Be wary of Egypt's taxi drivers who are notorious for trying to con you.If you can get bus transfers to and from the airport, do so.

If you want to stay in a cheap hotel, with an excellent location, with friendly staff, this is the place. But if you can afford more, pay extra. It's true,"you get what you pay for".

Good value and excellent location

from ermintrude2
Got back on 5 feb from 2 lovely weeks at the halomy hotel, Naama bay. Chose the hotel because of previous good reviews and were not disappointed. The location has to be one of the best in naama bay, as you can see right accross the bay, which is all lit up at night. It is only a 10 minute walk from the centre, although it does mean climbing 80 or so steps. The rooms were basic but comfy and well cleaned every day (the towel art was a nice touch). Most of the rooms had balconies with stunning views-although it's worth requesting one at time of booking.
We went half board and although the food was nice enough, there wasn't much variety, especially at breakfast, and being so close to so many reasonably priced restaurants in naama, I would recomend staying bed and breakfast.
We found the staff extremley helpful and friendly. We enjoyed travelling around on public transport. we visited cairo and stayed overnight in a cheap basic hotel, bus fare cost £6 each one way (delta bus) and the hotel £8 per room per night.
We would recomend this hotel especially if you are on a budget.

Disappointed to start with, but pleased in the end

Stayed at the Fantazia in Sharm last Feb but unfortunately airtours aren't using them this year so we decided on the Halomy. First impressions weren't good, the rooms are quite tired and could do with a bit of a makeover. But the views of Naama Bay certainly made up for it as they are stunning. The staff make you very welcome and are really friendly. The food is well cooked but over the fortnight it did become very samey, especially breakfast. We ate out a couple of times to break the monotomy. I agree with the review of Jan 30th, the paths around part of the hotel and leading down to the beach are crazy paved and are not very well lit. Several of the stones are loose and uneven or even missing so care needs to be taken when walking around at night. Taking a little torch would probably be a good idea if you stay at this hotel. The man-made beach is quite nice but we found the ladder into the sea, which is like some scaffold poles welded together could be made safer. We enjoyed are fortnight at The Halomy but would prefer to stay at the Fantazia next time we visit Naama Bay. But taking everything into account the price we paid for the holiday it was good value for money and we had a great time. Don't expect The Ritz but you will have a good time. Make sure you indulge in some snorkelling, the sea life is absolutely amazing its like looking into a tropical fish tank, the water is warm and really clear, certainly warmer than the hotel swimming pool!!!
