Excellent diving for the men, relaxing for the girls!

We were surprised just how far the hotel is away from Marsa Alam.......110km! The hotel shares the complex with The Pensee Hotel and you are free to use their facilities eg: gym, indoor pool but although we used those two, we preferred the atmosphere and friendliness at Utopia Beach. The restaurant was very good, some of the waiters are a little "pushy" and the service somewhat slow but the quality of the food (all buffet) is really good. At first glance you might think there is little choice but there are no burgers, chips, sausages etc etc and the food on offer has a very middle eastern theme and there is plenty of food. The beach bar for lunches is idyllic - - right on the beach, but the pool bar serving burgers and hot dogs is nothing special! Drinks at the bar are fairly limited but if you just want to drink (alcoholic drinks) beer, wine, gin, rum, whisky, vodka then you'll be fine. There are two diving clubs on site; we favoured the Sub Aqua Club, brilliant organisation and good choices of dives on offer.All in all this is a really good place to "get away from it all", and is very relaxing.

Very quiet and friendly

It's in the middle of the desert. It's like a big garden with several houses. The food is very good; the staff gives a great service to you. It has a beach just 20 meters from your room and you can go to Luxor and Cairo by bus if you like.
It is a good hotel if you want some rest and quiet.

This hotel shares the site with Pensee Royal Gardens which has excellent rooms - rooms at Utopia are very varied and getting a good room is a bit of a challenge.
You can eat at either hotel if you stay in Pensee. When I went in 2004 the food was good - 2005 it was very poor but you won't starve. All inclusive is of little benefit unless you drink loads! All drinks are in revolting plastic glasses so take your own!
Reef is brilliant as is beach and rural setting. Often see dolphins, Napoleons and large barracuda. Dive school has 2 boats moored at own jetty. Taxis are outside and are quite cheap.

Top Local Tips for Quseir

hotel shuttle bus to el quseir dont get a taxi these can be expensive, the bus is only £2.50 rtn. When you get to quseir its like beirut and if you let a local show you around they risk being arrested as we found out, our young guide was showing us into a shop one minute, next he was being driven away by army men. We were told it was because he was caught controlling tourists. Dont pay more than £30 for a large papyrus painting, buy a snorkel set for about £6 instead of hiring one, buy cigarettes inbound and out as they only let you buy 400 p.p each way can get l&m for £7 per sleeve some are £2 p.sleeve (karelias) which r ok. Taxi to masa alam airport should be no more than £20 careful as they will try to charge you £50. Take dollars for the airport and euros for hotel. I found it alot cheaper in sharm el sheik!!
