great all rounder hotel staff brilliant they do more for you that you get anywere very pleasant even when i was there on my own you never are every one so friendly the rooms are clean and the food is lovely we paid 12 english a night booking on the net and that was for 2 of us and hi for doreen you we met there also and nice relaxing holiday if you want it to be

hi just got back from st joseph in luxor what a team of guys these guys work very long hours yet there great you with a smile no matter what joe the waiter is great he really looked after me while i had a upset tummy thanks joe

We stayed there for 2 weeks. Arrived at the hotel and didn't have that much hope. But what a hotel. The staff were really friendly,helpful and very trustworthy. We were always able to ask the staff what to wear if we were going to visit a temple etc. On one of our last nights we went to the bar down stairs where George was working. What a laugh! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is clean, friendly and the meals are great. Cath and Brian from Scotland.

Having stayed in many 5 star hotels in Egypt, I always stay at St Josephs when in Luxor as it is the friendliest I have ever stayed in. I tend only to spend 3 or 4 days at a time in this wonderful town, but have visited many times. I would recommend it to anyone, but contact them direct for special price and you will save pounds (sterling not egyptian!)

Not a bad hotel at all. The food in my opinion is not great, by most peoples standards so pack some immodium. Great location in the heart of Luxor. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, but I would stick to the Pizza Hut or the McDonalds in the city centre.

After staying in all the five star hotels on this particular strip (Sonesta St George, Meridian and the Pyramisa Isis) We decided this was our last trip to Luxor after all there is a great big world out there. So we went on a Red sea cruise and stay at the Movenpick Jollie hotel in Sharm El Sheik. We decided to give Luxor one last try. Someone recommended the St Joseph before we ever went to Luxot so we decided to give it a try. Two days into our holiday we were planning a return trip which we have just returned from (March 2007). Everyone in the hotel remembered us and said Welcome back not bad for a couple of pensioners. We even met people we saw in October. This hotel is just magic. Apart from the usual lovely friendly staff, clean rooms,etc. There is just such a friendliness that seems missing in the bigger hotels. Guest and staff alike mix even the owners are part of the crowd and come to talk to you and yes welcome you back. Okay you don't get shampoo and shower gell etc but at these prices you can buy gallons of the stuff The cost is just unbelievable and the food second to none, Two weeks with pocket money set us back about £850 and that included all meals and booze in and out of the hotel. We now know all the staff by name as they do us and they just can't do enough for us. Even going to the chemist and getting me an elastice bandage at Egyptian price when I fell and hurt my ankle. It would take too long to name everyone but book the St Joseph with confidence as do the people who have been going back year after year longest we met 20 years. One more thing as well as the English John and Johns an others always recomended on these sites try Snobs restaurant (First turn left out of the St Joseph) A meal like you get there would set you back about £50 or more in England, its brilliant and service excellent. Will cost about £15 for two three course meals).

Booked a late deal on the internet and were lucky enough to be staying at the StJoseph Hotel. The accommodation is what it says 3star but the cleanliness and service is 5star plus. We had a marvelous holiday and the hotel and wonderful, friendly staff contributed greatly to that. I would definately recommend this hotel with fabulous views of the Nile and Hatshepsut temple both from the great little rooftop bar (with swimming pool) and from our balcony.

I found my stay in Luxor was made so much better because of my stay in the St.Joseph hotel. The staff where very friendly and polite. They where always available. The food was lovley and also their live show. The swimming area was also very nice. It housed a bar and restuarant also. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to travel to Luxor.

Arrived at the hotel extremely tired after a long day, and thought how brilliant the place was - ok it wasnt the most expensive hotel, if fact it was the cheapest, but the staff and place itself was wonderful. I went with my mum, her partner, and my two children, the youngest who has ADHD - nothing was too much trouble to make him happy. We spent 2 wonderful weeks based at the St Joseph, the food was excellent, and the housekeeping was spot on too. They did a special deal for meals which worked out quite cheap - we were having a 4 course meal for just under a £5 (excluding drinks) - and that included steak ! we ate at the hotel most nights and worked our way through the menu, and when they had a night for entertaintment (do see it - my son fell in love with the belly dancer) the buffet was out of this worl - be warned tho' if you dont like sweet stuff go for the fresh fruit when its time for dessert ! All in all i can heartily recommend to go to the St joseph, you wont regret it... hope to go back in a couple of years when we have all saved up again !

This is a small family run hotel in a good location in Luxor. The staff are all exceptionally helpfull and friendly.The food and service in the restaurant is truly magnificent,all selected from an extensive menu. The hotel contributed to a most enjoyable holiday in Luxor.

hi im going back to st jo,s on 19th july 2006 this is my 5th time at st josephs and i wouldnt think of staying anywhere else,at this hotel your made to feel like one of the family and do never feel alone, yet they leave you if you want a bit of peace, they have watched my daughter grow up from a gigly 7 year old to a livley 17 year old the lads from the hotel treat her like a sister, the rooms are immaculatley cleaned if you need anything just ask and they try there upmost to get it for you, the pool on the roof is a little suntrap but there is a shaded area for you to cool off and the pool is so refreshing for a dipthe hotel is so central to the sites but far enough away from the hustle and bustle been to other hotels in luxor but nobody speaks to you there so inpersonal, as though your invisible you will always have a freind at st jo,s maggieomx

Although basic this hotel exceeded our expectations. Not many leisure facilities but enough to keep you busy (warmest pool I have ever been in and 2 nice bars). The staff at the St Joseph are fantastic (although more than needed). Due to a delay with our flight we had to stay overnight at the Mercure Luxor and although it had more leisure facilities, the room and the food were below the St Joseph standard. If you want a place to use as a base, with a few lazy days round the pool and great service then St Joseph is the place for you. (Go for a room down the side of the building as the front rooms can be noisy). Will definitely go again.

This is the best budget hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff were brilliant, all had been to "towel folding school", the rooms were clean and adequate with full size fridges to keep your juices cold. The breakfasts were brilliant. Would love to visit again.

I got back yesterday from a fantastic week staying at the Hotel St Joseph. Like previous reviews, I found the staff to be lovely - helpful, friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. You could have a laugh with them, and they all had a ready smile. (It was genuine). The rooms were spacious and clean (if a little dated).

The views from the roof top bar / pool area were stunning. Nothing nicer after a days' sight-seeing, than to relax with a drink, and watch the sun set over the Nile.

The food was excellent too - with plenty of choice. (Vegetarian options were a little limited).

Definitely hire a local taxi (there are some right outside the hotel), and see the sights. As per the previous comments, agree the price before and pay at the end. (Someone in the hotel paid up front and was left stranded). A tip is a must. I had the same taxi driver all week, and I was very well looked after (I felt very safe - he offered to come into the temples etc with me, so I didn't get hassled).

Just one thing to be wary of - several people in the hotel (including me) had major hassle at the Tombs of the Nobles. The 'guides' were unhappy with the tips and asked for double, and when we refused, they got nasty. It was very unpleasant.

Everywhere else was OK - just have a laugh with them, and don't feel obliged to buy.

I'm already sorting out the return visit to the Hotel St Joseph, and would recommend it to anyone.

This is the second year that I have stayed in the St Josephs, it is centrally located for everything and is such a warm friendly place, the staff bend over backwards to help you in whatever you want, its a gem of a hotel and I will be going back time and time again

I stayed at St Joseph's Hotel Luxor for a week at the begining of February 2006. I can only say that it was one of the best places I have ever stayed. The staff, including the people who cleaned the rooms were superb. Everyone was very freindly and helpful always greeting guests with a smile. The standard of cleanliness was of the highest order and there was fresh linen evry day. After the first night the noise from the street was not noticeable.
The views from the Roof-top Bar were stupendous with views of the Nile and of Hatchetsup Tomb if it wasn't too hazy. Taxi drivers all bustleing for business and are willing to take you anywhere for a few Egyptian pounds. I spent the whole day on the west bank visiting the major sites for 50 Egyptian Pounds (£5)by local Taxi. Always negotiate a price before travelling - it's a must and a tip is expected.
and was not hurried at any of the sites.

Safe and clean environment

I stayed at the St. Joseph for two nights with a girlfriend. We traveled all over Egypt just the two of us and as young, single women safety and cleanliness were important to us. This hotel provided both and the staff was friendly as well. The only downside is that if you are a light sleeper, like I am, make sure you bring earplugs or ask for a room away from the street as it can be noisy with honking taxis. The restaurant on top provides nice service and decent food for a good price with a beautiful view of the Nile. The hotel is also within reasonable walking distance of the Luxor Temple and catching a ride on a felucca. I would definitely stay there again.

Top Local Tips for Luxor

Just say NO!!! Some of the shopkeepers can be very pushy and wont take no for an answer." La " means no and this word will be very useful. When we arrived at Luxor airport we were literallly ambushed by men wanting to carry our bags! We werent prepared for this and it ended up costing us a lot as we had no small notes! Our bags were pulled off us! Try to bring 10s and 20s for tips. They want tips for everything. In some public toilets they would look for money for 1 sheet of toilet roll. No money- No toilet roll. I learned to bring it in my own in my bag!!

haggle Haggle and if you are going to the west bank more than once, stay with the same person, you will get a better price. We went 3 times at the rate of £8.00 per day visiting 2 to 3 sights per day of about 4.5 hours per day

you will get hassled From the moment you get of the plane some one has their hand out and expects a tip so if you can get some egyptian pounds before you go equivalent to 10p get em before you go .The attraction are worth a look especially the temples ,the tombs i found dissapointing as they are stripped bare you can take photos but everything costs ya in egypt ,even if you go for a pee yu are expected to tip for using a very disgusting toilet !I will give em a tip get them cleaned! The people are too friendly they hassle you constantly to get in there taxis and caleshes[horse and carts] they are very cheap but we like to walk.Also beware cos sometimes they want to do a detour to there uncles shop and then they dont like it when you dont want anything.The curbs are so high luxor is not suitable for the disabled we wondered why every one walked on the road soon realised its because they are flat.Every 6 foot some one would stop to try and sell us something or give us alift it was very annoying .
