This Hotel was really nice,the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was great. I especially enjoyed the infinity pool which looks over the river nile.The rooms were big and spacious with big bathrooms.The location was great as it was on an island overlooking the valley of the kings and river nile.In the hotel there was a shop with reasonably priced items.

Overall I really enjoyed this hotel and I recommend it.

We were seeking sun relaxation and culture and were not dissappointed. This hotel in on the tranquil Crocodile Island where no one can get to you it is bliss and dining outside by the Nile is beyond wonderful!!

Wow!What a lovely hotel!Staff are friendly and so helpful. View breath-taking. Bungalows are fine, we didn't spend much time indoors. Security is very good. Will definitely go back.

Poor accommodation

This is not a 5 Star hotel.
The Grounds are very good. While we were there, the infinity pool was out of action for several days. The food was quite poor at times. The rooms are in need of gutting and starting again. The bathrooms are 1970's decor. Even people who had visited before said thet the standard had dropped. We were very disappointed after a fantasic week cruising on the Nile. What a change from the 1996 reviews!

We have been six times to Egypt and four times to Luxor and have stayed at various five star hotels, but this lovely island resort has made us coming back for more. We love the peace, nature, views and friendly staff there. They have two unique pools, nobody can beat that in Luxor! WOW

We have just come back from two weeks in Luxor staying at the Jolie Ville. It was fantastic, rooms large and clean, grounds fantastic, staff so helpful and friendly. The two pools brilliant, great having an adults only pool but also used the infinity pool. Can't imagine staying in a 'normal' hotel now, i.e. high rise with your room off of a long corridor! Getting up on our first morning and seeing the mountains of the Valley of the Kings across the Nile was breathtaking. Can't wait to go back.

We have been back time after time and each time it gets better, the staff are friendly and helpful. Buffet over priced, but eat a la carte or bar menu, The Old Winter Palace will be the cheapest a la carte you will ever eat, fantastic

We have been twice and each time it gets better. I was always of the opinion that I would never visit a resort more than once, let alone stay in the same hotel but the Movenpick on Crocodile Island is quite simply magical. Great food, beautiful landscaped, lush gardens, wildlife at your feet and it's far enough out of the city to feel quiet, fresh and calm. Also has Luxor's only infinity pool. Well worth every penny.

We have just returned from a week at the Movenpick Luxor and would strongly recommend it above the alternatives. The location right on the Nile is fab, especially the infinity pool (which annoyingly was only open for half our stay). Rooms looks very uninspiring from the outside but are nice, large and clean and the lush gardens and grounds are gorgeous. Really relaxing and far enough away from the hassle of Luxor proper. Food isn't anything special but free shuttle bus into town means you can sample the other hotel restaurants easily. Would recommend the Italien at the Sheraton and the Japanese at the Sonesta St George. In fact we made it round most of the other hotels and were very pleased with our choice of the Movenpick, definately the best location and pool.

Just back from a fortnight at the Movenpick Jolie Ville in Luxor. My girlfriend and I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviews - the location and gardens on Crocodile Island are really lovely. So nice to be away from the non-stop hassle of downtown Luxor... Our holiday was unbelievable value, but you have to realise that's because Egypt is a very poor country and I dread to think what the average local salary is. For example, queuing to get a pick-up at the hotel, taxi drivers are willing to wait for up to 24 hours for a fare that can be as low as £1 sterling. So...as soon as you leave the hotel you're fair game for people trying to hussle money from you - in all sorts of devious ways! Thankfully there was none of that at the hotel, which is a haven of tranquility. Our only criticisms are that the decor in rooms is dated, and that the food could be better.

We had a really lovely time at the Movenpick, the weather was fantastic (40 degrees every day and not a cloud in sight), and the infinity pool was heaven. The room was great and everywhere was spotlessly clean. I don't know if it was the time of year, but generally it was never crowded anywhere (bars/restaurant/pool/whatever).

The food selection and quality were very good, but overall I believe that prices reflect the fact that you are slightly out of town (nearly £5 for a G&T?!!!!) - so you may be better off at least occasionally taking a 5 minute ride into the town centre (£1 each way) for more choice and better budgeting.

And talking of budgeting, you may want to budget for tips. I dont know what the average wage is there, but it seemed to me as if you even looked in someone's direction, they expected a tip. If you would rather not tip, or do not tip what they deem to be enough, (certainly at the infinity pool) you have no chance of being served at all. On the last day, we went back to the room to get showered/changed/packed etc 3 hours before our departure. The chambermaid barricaded our room door with her cart and herself - unmoved for nearly an hour - until we went out specially to give her the tip we were going to give her anyway. So bring extra money, or a thick skin.

Overall though, we were very pleased. We would definitely return to the Jolie Ville, or be happy to sample the delights of another Movenpick in the future.

TOTAL relaxation

We stayed for seven days, leaving on 3rd October 2005. We had the most enjoyable, relaxing time. The service was excellent especially around the small pool (as opposed to the infinity pool - which was great for kids but not very peaceful) and in the buffet restaurant - thanks to Hussein and El Nouby.

The room had a lovely view of the nile and was in the quieter part of the island, which suited us down to the ground. The room was kept very clean with towels being changed twice a day and beds turned down every evening. The bathroom was bit disappointing - needs upgrading but nevertheless was kept extremely clean.

We went for total relaxtion and that is exactly what we got -
taken care of by the staff
excellent food in the buffet restaurant
quiet around the pool + excellent poolside service - we got complimentary skewers of melon at 11.30 every day.
Peaceful and quiet around our room (except for the birds singing)

We will definitely be back!

We have just returned from a fab 7 days at the Movenpick and have to agree with all of the other reviews submitted that we could not have chosen a better place to stay.

The staff were really friendly and helpful and could not do enough to make our stay more enjoyable. The rooms were spacious and always kept clean. The food in the buffet restaurant was based on a different theme every night and was really good with a wide variety of choice for breakfast and dinner. If you want a more romantic setting and want to try a different menu, go to the a la carte restaurant, we went there on our last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Again the food was fantastic.

We had read about the infinity pool before we arrived and it really lived up to our expectations, the views of the nile and beyond were breathtaking.

If you decide to explore the Valley of the Kings, the best time to visit is very early morning, as this is the coolest part of the day and can be quieter. We decided not to go on the organised tours and asked the hotel to order a taxi to ferry us around to our chosen sites. This is definitely the cheapest and best option although, ensure that you agree the sites you would like to visit and the cost before leaving the hotel. Some of the taxi drivers will offer to take you to see their family, we experienced this and found them to be most hospitable however, they were encouraging us to buy the pottery and statues that they make - and although authentic, we became a little uncomfortable with this situation.

We would like to thank Nicola and Stavros for making our holiday even more enjoyable, it was really nice to be able to compare notes on the sites that we visited during our week there and we all found the comments made on Trip Advisor to be the reason why we both chose the Movenpick for our holiday!

Has to be the best hotel and best staff in Luxor

Having just returned from a two week stay at this hotel I can have nothing but praise for the welcoming hard working hotel staff who are all very plesant and nothing what so ever is any trouble for them they go out of the way to make sure that you really are staying at "your second home" from the very second you arrive , you are made to feel like a VIP the hotel has been awarded a 5 star raiting by the Egyptian tourist board and definatley deserves this award, the bungalows are clean , and well maintained to a high standard twice a day. The meals are a very high quality and very reasonably priced for example a 3 course alacarte meal including drinks for 3 adults came to LE 400 which works out to £40.00 !!! In my opinion with the ammount of resteraunts in the hotel which is really a resort of its own there is no need to leave the complex to eat as there is a theme night in the main resteraunt where the chef Mr Ibriham excells him self every night and again is very resonably priced.

If you are going to Egypt with preconceptions of what has been showen on Western News with regard to Muslim people then I would disregard your apprehensions as we never encountered any problems either in Luxor , the West Bank Villages out side Luxor or at any attractions we visited , I would say though that you really have to visit the west bank very early in the morning or you will bake as by 11am the temperature can be 140 F !!!!

The only real problem at the hotel is the feluca man called KAMAL who will take you to a remote area of the nile and then threaten you with violence untill you give him money be warned he will be nice untill out of sight of the hotel and then threaten you.

When you go to Luxor if you have never been then beware of traders and shop owners offering you "free gifts" or a "look in their shop and a welcome drink" you might not leave untill again you have parted with your cash a blunt "IMSHI" will get the message through

Excellent Resort

Just returned from the best Holiday we have ever had in Luxor, Egypt.
The sights were amazing and obviously so many wonderful things to do, However choosing this resort was our best decision, and what made are Holiday truly EXCELLENT and beating previous visits to Egypt.
The location was PERFECT, as me and my partner like to split our time between seeing the sights yet having a peaceful retreat to relax and unwind when worn out. Set on its own Island it was away from the hustle and bustle and noise that surrounds the majority of hotels in Luxor.
The setting is ideal, and if you have Kids (which we don't) we are certain NO hotel in Luxor is more suitable - judging from comments heard from Parents and the fact that we never saw any miserable unhappy children.
Due to the layout of the Resort it is also ideal for people with out Kids as despite catering for Families, It still remains a peaceful place.
The Pools are excellent, as are the grounds. No Problems what so ever getting to the sights or Luxor. Free Buses and boat service.
What made the Resort that little more special was that the staff, from Cleaners,Gardeners through to Management were warm,nice people- they were considerate and caring, unlike other Hotels we have stayed in where most Staff just seem to see Dollar signs on our foreheads and are Over keen to please, expecting tips for just smiling.
This Hotel was the BEST. My Parents have stayed at the Winter Palace several times, However next year they will be staying here.

We have just spent a week at The Jolie Ville Movenpick and what a wonderful week it was, it must be the best holiday we have ever had. The hotel is on Crocodile Island in Luxor, well about seven minutes away by taxi or bus, its more of a resort really as everything you could wish for is on the island. When you arrive you receive a very warm welcome along with a complimentary glass of hibiscus (like ribena only nicer!). The staff are so helpful from the minute you arrive until the moment you go, nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel is spotless so are the chalet style bungalows that you stay in. The air-conditioned rooms are spacious and have everything you need including a hairdryer, dressing table satellite tv and even room service if you need it. The rooms are cleaned daily along with fresh towels and every night whilst you're having your evening meal your beds are turned down and you each receive a little box containing a shortbread biscuit in a box saying 'goodnight croc kiss'. The food is fantastic too especially the breakfast. They have everything from cold meats, sausages french toast different breads and croissants to freshly made omelettes. The evening meals are buffet style, all beautifully cooked with plenty of choice. They have themed evening meals from oriental to swiss or italian. If thats not to your liking theres the Crocodile bar serving meals and snacks. There steak sandwich is highly recommended. After enjoying all the gorgeous food you step outside and are met with spectacular views of the river Nile and the West Bank. Its just gets better and better as the hotel has two pools one of which is the infinity pool. It was heaven lying on the sunbed by the infinity pool watching the cruise ships sailing down the Nile. Both pools have life guards and they check the water too so you know everything is clean. There is a food area near the pool but you don't need to leave your sunbed as the waiters will fetch anything you need including the gorgeous ice cream! They also provide towels and padded mattresses for your sunbed. The kids area of the infinity pool is great fun, it has a slide and different wheels that you turn that make water spray or shoot out. There is a hotel run kids club with loads of activitys for the kids but the oldies needn't feel left out as they have a full programme of activities for them too including aqua gym tennis and football. There is even a zoo on the island along with its own crocodile and camel! The camel is gorgeous its six months old and called Cleo. They also have donkey rides around the island which is fun but take some felt tip pens or biros for the kids that will take you around on the donkey, do the same if you go on a camel ride on the West Bank as the kids really appreciate it. There is also a gym on the island along with a hairdressers and alternative therapies including massages by the pool. Theres no night time entertianment as such just a man singing in the Crocodile bar. The hotel provides a free shuttle bus and boat service into Luxor or the staff at reception will call for you a taxi. There is also a free safety deposit box at reception. There is a gift shop in the hotel with a good selection of gifts and its not too expensive, there is also a bank which was handy as you could change your Egyptian notes into smaller notes for all the tipping that you do. This hotel is absolutely fantastic and we can't wait to return. Egypt is a wonderful country and the people are so friendly but staying at this hotel made it even more special.

Best Hotel in Luxor

We as a family have just returned from Luxor and were told by all the guides that this is the best hotel in Luxor. We would have to agree.Great for families, childrens club on all day with a 1 hour break for lunch- arts and crafts, bread making,donkey riding etc. New infinity pool just completed beginning of June. Childrens play area with swing and slide actually in the pool. Smaller pool near terrace where adults chilled.Plenty of sunbeds.All staff very attentive. Although hotel 4km from town centre there is an hourly free shuttle bus(6mins) and boat (20min) three times/day to town.Other hotels in town centre near shops where you are hassled. Security at hotel always visible and guards in gardens 24/day. Great variety of food.

just arrived back from luxor the hotel you cannot fault its just outside the town which is an advantage you dont get hasseld to buy things or asked for money which you do in the town. the staff are helpfull really going the extra distance for you they have two pools one an infinity pool which is top notch they say it is the quiet time over there so no problem finding chairs at pool. rooms are larger than your usual hotel rooms also security on the walkways at night but never felt threatend there at all. the food is also great it really is five star.

Top Local Tips for Luxor

Things to do in Luxor There are all the main sites but would definaltey reccomend the hot air balloon. Definates ones to miss are Mummy Museum and also the Kharnak Light show which was so BORING! Loved luxor for the souks make sure you dont get ripped off, haggling is a must. Taxis were so cheap, amazingly cheap actually. Would reccoment eating out at other major hotels to we loved the Old Winter Palace restuarant for amazing ambience which made us feel we were dining with the royals!

the tombs were not that great! go to the valley of the Kings and Queens early! Do not under any circumstances take photos in the tombs. The tombs themselves in our opinion were not that awe inspiring. Go to the sites just to tick them off the list. We had more fun at the temples!!

Money and Hand washing Take alcohol gel with you when youa re out so that you can"wash" your hands after handling money as the lower denomination notes are well circulated and very dirty. This will help you from getting TUts trots!
