Top Local Tips for Luxor
Taxi's are way overpriced. Be cautious about the taxi's price. Be sure of the entire deal, one way or round trip before you leave. The carrages can be a better deal if you are a good bargineer but they have been known to change the terms of the trip after you have started. Be firm and do not let them intimidate you into paying more than the agreed upon price. I found that I enjoy my day more if I don't think I have been taken advantage of and I pay a fair price. The Lotus Hotel Staff (security) was kind enough to negotiate for me which saved me lots of heartach.
A trustworthy taxi driver Hany no 1 is a trustworthy taxi driver. You'll recognize him because he's got a number plate saying 'Hany no 1' on his dashboard. He's normally parked up near the first roundabout on the Corniche if you're coming from the Lotus Hotel. His English is good & he doesn't demand a tip for everything.
