Historical Traveller Reviews of Iberotel Luxor Hotel

Yabba Dabba Do

from Dannyd007
It was a dream come true.... Could not fault the Hotel in any way.. and we should know [normally we stay at Marriott hotel when we travel] so we do have high expectations of hotels. This hotel passed the test with flying colors. Service was instant. When they said in a minute they meant a minute. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Staff was always pleasant and polite. Security was excellent. Rooms were spotless and very cosy - home from home. Food was very good ESPECIALLY THE PUMPKIN SOUP if you know your cusine you will now that this is a caribbean dish so they had a lot to live up to.

Would tell all our friends and family about this hotel and would definitely stay here on our next visit to Luxor

Beware of the Egyption Ferrari when walking the streets of Luxor.

Stunning Hotel

from alanvowles
What a superb Hotel. This is listed as an English 3 Star or Egyptian 4 Star. I have travelled a great deal and this was on a par with some of the 5 Stars!
The staff were excellent and could not do enough to help. If they saw you coming they would run to call a lift for you. If you drop a fork in the restaurant they are on you instantly.
The bar staff especially Haasan were great. Adbul who cleaned the room was funny, helpful and always greeted us with a smile.
The room had a stunning view of the Nile as did the bar, the terrace, the restaurant, the cafe, the Italian, the chinese!
Most other Luxor hotels are seperated from the nile by a road and the obvious traffic. The Iber is wonderful in that you can walk from the lift straight down to the banks and the pool.
Hotel food is very good. The Italian and Chinese are great with cheap quality meals in a nice atmosphere. The Cote de Jardin provides excellent cuisine at approx £17 pp for 3 courses with wine.
The Nile cafe will do you two cups of Egyptian tea and a Sheesha pipe for a massive £1.50!
Food and drink will be served to you werever you sit and they waste no time finding you and pampering for your every need.
A superb hotel that I shall definatley be staying in again next year.
Note; Book a Nile View room. It is only slightly dearer but you don't get any traffic noise.
Go there!

Hotel Review

Approaching the Hotel for the first time, you notice its on the main road adjacent to a roundabout.

I will say most of the nice hotels are on busy roads

You walk in through glass doors to a completly different enviroment.

You are greeted with an ice cold flannel and a cup of Egyption tea.

And the quality of service remained the same throughout the week I was there.

The breakfast has had a lot of good reviews in the past but it was not to my or my wifes taste all though there was plenty to choses from.

You have a choice of :- 3 types of fruit juice : approx 5 different cereals : Eggs in various ways : Assorted pastries and breads : Various fruit salads : Various Cheeses : 6 different hot plates , these i found unusual ?.
If we wanted a hot breakfast we ended up have just eggs sunny side up on toast.

We only tried the evening buffet once ,but enjoyed it.
and the italian once and enjoyed that as well.

The rooms where clean on arrival and maintained well through the week

They tried to provide a bit of entertainment through the week, a DJ: a Belly dancer : a male dancer , but alas they looked like they had just been thrown in at the deep end on the whole 10 out of ten for trying though.

I had a Nile View on the 3rd floor (WOW)

Room 3 star
Food 3 star +
Service 3star +
Entertainment ----------

The Location is proberly one of the best, by turning left you end up near the Tour Guide Operators ( We took previous review advice and tried jollys and were pleased with the service )

It takes 6 days to get used to all the hassle you get of EVERYONE
but it was an interesting holiday.

A little jewel in the nile that I didnt find out obout untill near the end of the holiday ,was the gentleman bearthed at the side of the pool who operates from the hotel , we had a really good time with him and his brother, with minimal hassle ---
as EVERYONE will hassle you.

NB Read other reviews, some good advice on how to react and reply

Good Luck : ( Valium once a day LOL )

Well situated

Stayed here as part of a tour of Egypt and was very satisfied with the location in relation to the sights of Luxor, the pool and the restaurants. Absolutely no problems and would recommend to anyone.

Only if you get a good deal

from shaz61
Of the 4 and 5 star hotels in Luxor I would book Iberotel again but only if I was getting a good deal in comparison.. If a hotel is just a base for exploring and lying by the pool then this one is okay. If you like to spend a lot of time at a hotel then pay a bit extra for one of the 5 starts.
Rooms - okay, good size. Bath half size of ours so you can only sit in. We were put on second floor and at 5am the next morning I crawled down to reception pleading to be moved because of the noise from traffic - horns beep till early hours non-stop. Luckily 5th floor was empty but they still wouldnt give us Nile view, but traffic less noisy up there. Rooms looked after well.
Breakfast - lot of choice, cooked food, eggs, toast, sausage, beans, plus lots of bakery items like bread and croissants and cake - salads, fruit, cereal, cheese. Very good.
Pool - great view over Nile, but little greasy round edges and water always cold.
Ate only once in hotel at Italian restaurant and that was good for a change from egyptian food.
Staff all helpful and friendly.

good hotel

from Lindsy
I would agree with the rest of the reviews below, I went with my 14 year old daughter who appreciated the pool at the end of a very hot day. The pool could have been cleaner in my oppinion as the sides of the pool were always grubby with dirt and grease each day-didn't see anyone clean it durring our stay except a man to test for Ph balance. The housekeeper was excellant with turned down beds and a boxed chocolate or mint each day, with decrative towels in the room. The waiting staff are really helpful and very curtious always have a smile for you whatever time of day. The food is ok very western with chips on everything, we asked for these to be taken of and they thought we were mad! A big dispointment was that the disco bar was closed and the a la carte resturant was closed for re-fit. Other than this the hotel is in a great location for discovering the sights and sounds of Luxor.
For a great meal out go to the Winter Pal;ace Hotel 1866 resturant for silver service with a mc donalds price!!!!

Just Perfect ! ! !

Booked this hotel for my girlfriend and I at the very last minute, and really had no idea what to expect. We were blown away by the overall experience and would make the Iberotel Luxor our first choice for our next holiday.
Our room was very spacious, very comfortable, and though it faced the main street (not the Nile rooms available for a small extra cost) the constant sounds of daily Egyptian life added to the ambience of the holiday.
The staff are the best, friendliest, most helpful and corteous I have ever encountered, even at hotels with higher star ratings. They made us feel extremely welcome, with great fun & charm always forthcoming whilst keeping service standards very high.
The pool is a welcome refresher, as we visited in Mid-August with average temperature in the mid-high 40s and the gardens are beautifully tendered offering a lovely place to sit & relax while watching the life on the Nile sail by.
As previous reviewers commented, by using the locals for tours and falucca rides etc you can save lots of money in comparison to using the large tour operators. We befriended Ahmed who operates from beside the hotel pool, and enjoyed fantastic tours to all the main sights on both East and West banks of the Nile for incredibly low prices, and made a good friend into the bargain.
The food is very appetising and varied, catering to Western palates whilst also offering typical Egyptian fayre. There is a small Italian-themed pizzeria within the hotel which we also found very tasty.
Overall, a fabulous stay, perfect location within easy reach of all the temples, museums, bazaars, restaurants and cafe bars. Even the very persistent plethora of Egyptian taxi, boat and shop owners couldn't dampen the spirit in this beautiful place. Enjoy!!

Nice hotel, good location

from gotthefridgemagnet
Very nice medium sized hotel in great location - short walk to either the Marina or downtown (which is definitely worth a visit/walk.) Good views over the Nile. Very friendly staff (i.e. bar staff/waiters/housekeeping). 3 places to eat but only one bar (with pool table). Entertainment not very thrilling - one man on keyboard, oompah band, belly dancer. Eating out is very cheap but drinks can be expensive (roughly same price as cities in UK) Rooms excellent. No bars in town, just cafes/restaurants (even the English owned ones)
Book your tours through Jolleys (about 5mins from hotel opposite Marina). He really does take care of you (even met us when we returned from a trip to Cairo at 1 in the morning to make sure that we had had a good time) Try to get Foxy as your guide. Nearly half the price of holiday rep tours.
Only downfall is the buggy drivers - they won't take no for an answer - just follow you down the road trying to wear you out (shopkeepers too) Good tip: Go with a tan - they know you've probably done it all before. A ride in a buggy is worth it - agree with the driver a price for taking you around all night - very cheap and he'll wait while you have dinner, take you around the city and then take you home. He will want to take you to a papyrus shop (they get a back-hander from the owners of the shops)
Two words to learn:- La, shukra (No thanks - you'll be saying it all the time).
Overall : Great people, good hotel, excellent sites (don't miss the Valley of the Kings and if you can afford it get a flight to Cairo and see the pyramids) - cheap and lots of haggling! Don't forget your mosquito repellent - you'll need it!

book nile view room

from cheshireholidays
Paid extra for nile view worth every penny, could have spent all day every day just watching the world go by it was like a moving picture. Some mornings up at 5.00am just to watch the nile come alive and stayed up late one night to watch it go to sleep or at least doze. Room service excellent yes service is more expensive in hotels but it is all around the world. Rooms were spotless and kept very clean.
Very friendly staff but one particular waiter did become quite annoying at breakfast, Pool waiters and bar staff excellent nothing was too much trouble even at the hottest part of the day, sun bed towels can be changed as many times as you like.
Only worrying experience - day we were leaving asked by one of the hotel staff what we knew about broken patio window in our room we hadn't even noticed a broken window, so feel we left under a cloud. Would still reccomend hotel and may even try and go back but will check all windows first. Life is different and they do have some scams but remember to smile but be firm. Enjoy.

Like others we were impressed with the location and grounds of the iberotol. However beware of room allocation. We were given a very noisy room under the generator facing the road. We had to pay extra to move rooms even though the hotel was half empty. When you discover others have paid far less for the same trip and some are moved without being charged extra you realise the whole rip off culture of Luxor extends to the hotels too. The food is not great with the exception of breakfast. The assumption that you dont want your change and the obligation to tip everyone who smiles at you becomes very annoying. The hotel is spotless and the majority of staff extremly pleasant. The prices appear cheap compared to home but by egyptian standards are expensive. There are no tea /coffee facilities in the bedrooms, therefore you have to pay 12 egyptian pounds for a coffee sachet you would normally get complimentary in other hotels.
