Historical Traveller Reviews of Sunrise Mamlouk Palace Resort Hotel

from lkjo
just returned from a weeks break at the mamlouk palace. what can i say?? fantastic. the hotel was spotless, staff were so friendly and helpful, cannot fault them. the rooms spotless, maid service daily, bathroom - no complaints, clean, clean towels as you want them. only went in the heated pool, very clean and warm. entertainment was good, although we didnt have much to do with it. bar service excellent. food service excellent, every night was a different themed meal although they did tend to end up quite similar dishes with the odd one 'themed' dish. however, all was delicious, daytime snacks great too.
would definatly return.

Like a Palace!!!

We have just come back yesterday and first things first,
HOTEL - Stunning
The hotel grounds are beautiful and very well maintained.
The view from the hotel lobby is amazing as everything is on view e.g 2 Huge pools, then gardens ,then beach and the skyline.A great first impression.
Food - Buffet had a great selection with a few theme nights a week. There is a Tex Mex restaurant and a Asian restaurant on site the Asian is not included in the all inclusive but is only 10 euro's per person all food and drink and is so worth it. Best green curry ever. The Tex Mex on other hand was sadly a disappointment as myself and partner was alittle ill after our visit.
Drinks- All Inclusive drink is local produced except from the soft drinks which is the usual pepsi and 7up
Staff- The staff are friendly but are abit pushy for tips.
Rooms- Rooms are big and spacious and the shower is roomy!

Just to tell you before you go there is aircraft noise at this hotel but you do get used to it.
The weather is nice around 23 degrees but it is a little windy but our last day did reach 28!

nice hotel lovely weather

We have been to Egypt 4 times now and have stayed in luxury at Makadi Bay but Im not saying where as its a secret!!! Dont want everyone going!!! We were a bit wary about Sunrise Mamlouk as varied reports. We booked through and got an absolute bargain £1280 for 3 adults & one child!!!! No need to worry as everything went great

Reception staff very helpful - asked to upgrade room on check in but were told no need as room was nice. It was, fitted all 4 of us in - one king size and 2 put up beds but still loads of room. (Room 19206) Overlooked pool/pool bar but not noisy.

Love the English. They are so nice and helpful and try so hard. Didnt use animation team other than shows at night. All pretty rubbish apart from Michael Jackson show which was good. We didnt use a tour operator so contacted hotel to arrange a taxi by e mail. They sent a car to the airport and the driver was there with a board - it cost 10 euros. We booked a car back to airport through reception for same price, but if you book a return journey at start it costs 15 euro.

I didnt mind the buffet although it was sometimes not very warm. Breakfast buffet the best. Food at beach and pool bar ok but we went in Feb, dread to think what it would be like in Summer. There were loads of flies and one chef at each bar cooking pizza, burgers & chips. Drinks free flowing though. Can make your own coffee/tea or have cappucino, cocktails or spirits. Wine VERY nice. Mexican ala carte fabulous and same staff as in buffet during day. Booking system poor as you need to be there at 12.30 or no tables left. I waited at 12.00 and was 1st in queue and had to argue for a table for 4. They will book the tables for paying guests first (one free meal then you pay 10 euros each). Asian nice but not as good.

Overall fab holiday. Weather great if a bit windy and cool in the mornings but hot during day. Evenings very cold so take a warm coat. Still building at hotel but doesnt affect anything. Would recommend hotel and doing a "tailor made" as its easy and no waiting around for transfers etc. We had a rep in hotel who was called Reda and was very knowledgable and helpful.

If you have booked YOU WILL LOVE IT we are a bit choosy and couldnt find fault. Enjoy!!!

Great Value - All inclusive hotel

I'll keep this brief - further info by request (I have also been to other areas of Egypt):

Hotel - Great location right on the beach, just as the brochures and website say. Can be a bit of a walk between restaurants, bars, pools and beach as the grounds are quite large.

Pool - 2 really good size but only 1 heated (still a bit chilly in January). Plenty of sun loungers. Beach towels provided free of charge.

Beach - Again plenty of sunloungers with wind breaks (which were needed as for 2 days it was very breezy)!

Food - Tex Mex is excellent, Asian also very good, main restaurant OK but a bit repetitive.

Drinks - Very good choice and they keep coming even if you do not ask (excellent service).

Staff - All excellent and very friendly - no hassle from anyone inside the hotel grounds.

Entertainment - Animation Team around the pool area - otherwise the entertainment is in the sister hotel next door.

Rooms - All clean and tidy with drinking water bottles replaced daily & free safety deposit box. Towels replaced daily.

Trips - We did the 1 Day Luxor trip which included Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings, Queen Hat??? Temple, boat trip along the Nile - long day but excellent. There are plenty others to choose from as well.

Hurghada Town - Prepared to be hassled by the shopkeepers - I preferred just to go for the fixed price shops and pay only a few pence more rather than haggle for ages. The hotel has an inexpensive bus into the town.

Hurghada Airport - Good selection of shops - take most currencies except the Egyptian Pound.

Currency - Egyptian Pound, Sterling or US Dollars are all widely accepted

What can I say about the Mamlouk Palace, Perfection about sums it up. This was a fantastic holiday and one I wished would never end. The hotel is impressive and will only get better when the finishing touches are added. The staff are so friendly it defies belief and will always try their very best to make sure you have what you want even before you know you want it. The snake show on Saturday night was amazing. The area is beautiful and Macmada( not sure on the spelling) is an island which is stunning.(see last 2 pics for island).

Is there a fly in the oinment? A downside to this hotel, Yes but it is nothing to do with the staff or the hotel. It's the Eastern European guests. They are rude, arrogant and ignorant. They treat the staff with contempt and the other guests as an inconvienience. They do not understand the concept of manners or queing and please and thank you are foreign to them.

This aside the holiday was the best we could have asked for and we are already booking up again for later in the year (wife doesn't know yet so it will be a surprise when she reads this). We have an 8 year old who adored it and the kids club is great and runs every day for varying periods.

My advice if you are considering this hotel is Book It Now, you will not regret it.

Excellent Hotel

I have just returned from a week's holiday at the sunrise Mamlouk Palace resort in Hurghda. We had an excellent time the staff are very friendly I was never without a cocktail I had at least three at once they really looked after us because if you are friendly and thank the staff and sometime trip them it will go along way. The rooms are very clean lovely size with a nice clean bathroom with a big walk in shower. The rooms are cleaned everyday and towels changed. The Tex Mex restaurant was excellent we went back again because the food and service you receive is amazing. You get one free visit but can go back as many times as you like for £7 all your drinks are free and you get a 4course meal for this price as well. The food in the buffet restaurant is nice but pretty much the same thing for breakfast lunch and dinner but you will always find something nice to eat. The hall is clean has a smoking side and a non smoking side which I liked. The resort over all is beautiful has a amazing pool which runs right down the middle of the resort which has 2pool bars and one heated pool for the winter months. The beach is clean has a beach bar which you can get food and you must try the pizzas they are cooked fresh while you wait and are lovely. Overall we will return to this hotel again hopefully in May 08.

We will be back

Beautifull Hotel, many pools and poolbars to enjoy, one heated swimming pool (lovely). Buffet restaurant is ok, many choise at least as you are there for one week. The people are very nice and polite.

we had a nice room with a good shower and in front a nice terrace.
The beach is very nearby and also has a bar.
Overall, this is one of the best hotel's i have been to in Egypt, I will return.

Big Disappointment

from Wilmoth
My Husband and I stayed at this hotel from 4th - 18th January 2008. After reading all features available about this hotel we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment when we arrived. The main three let downs were the food, service - or lack of it as well as not being able to use the facilities at the sister hotel Sunrise Garden Beech next door as stated on the Thomas Cook website. The food was very bland and extremely repetative, especially if you are a vegetarian like myself, I really struggled. The majority of guests were Russian/German and so the food seemed to be focused on their nationality. We often struggled for a table inside the restaurant, which resembled a cattle market as the layout meant that the tables were grouped together very close to each other. There didn't seem to be any logical flow to the restaurant with people barging in front of you and young children running around. In my opinion it is an accident waiting to happen. The food was also not kept hot and was just in silver serving trays with lids and so was just warm most of the time. The Mexican restaurant was very nice and a relief from chip butties and potatoes - one free visit per stay. We didn't go to the Asian restaurant but the menu was very much chinese looking. The snacks in the day (meat sandwiches, chips and pizza only) were again very repetative and not buffet style so the chef, who worked alone, cooked to order which on most occasions meant a very very long wait. We found alot of the staff to be quite miserable and the service was the worst we have ever experienced on a holiday. Some of the staff's attitudes were terrible and unprofessional and by the expressions on their faces some of them came across as if it was a chore for them to get you a drink . You could not go to the bar to order your drink you had to sit down in the lobby bar at tables and wait for one of the waiters to come and take your order. However, on some occasions the length of time from ordering the drink was so long that we did go to the bar and waited until they served us as we were so fed up of waiting. We timed how long we were waiting on one occasion and it was nearly half an hour for a drink, followed by twenty five minutes for the second and so on. This was not a one off as the delays happened nearly every night barr a few. There were also several occasions where there were no tables available and we had to sit on the sofas in the reception area which made the service even worse. There are seats outside but it is very cold in the evening so nobody ever sat outside. I wouldn't like to be there when the hotel is at full capacity, it was about half our first week and about three quarters the second which was bad enough. The service in the disco area was slightly better but extremely loud and had childrens entertainment for the first part of the evening. Also, the all inclusive drinks end at 12pm and you are charged if you order anything after this time. As we were under the impression we could use the facilities at the sister hotel next door we went on the first day only to be told by the barman that we couldn't even get a drink as we were from the Mamlouk hotel. You can only use the pool and sauna but if you want a drink you have to walk all the way next door! The rooms were nice and clean, although on several occasions it was quite late in the afternoon until they had been in and cleaned them etc and the guy cleaning our room had a habit of waiting until we returned from the beech and knocking on the door with a towel or bottle of water which was annoying as he just wanted a tip. We were also told that you were not allowed to take drinks back to your room and you would be charged if you did so - Why?. There are two pools but only one heated but was still very cold. The unheated one was far to cold and I don't think we ever saw anyone in there, which was a shame as the swim up bar was located in this pool. The beech was nice and clean but a let down to this was people bugging you every day from the diving club, salon and boat trips etc. There is also building work still going on and the noise from circular saws and drills some days was annoying. The childrens slide is only half built and it's structure looks quite dangerous. We saw a few workmen working on it over the two weeks but didn't seem to get very far. There was also scaffolding up in reception as they were still working on the ceiling in there and on some occasions the smell of paint etc was a bit nasty. It is very cold and windy in the mornings and in the evenings so I would advise taking some warm clothes. We also were not aware that you had to wear tops with sleeves in the restaurant, reception and lobby so please bear this in mind as some people had to go out and buy wraps etc as many of their clothes were sleeveless. The quality of the drinks were OK and the local beer was nice but you rarely got a full glass. Overall compared to other all inclusive hotels we have been to this was the worst. The staff are in desperate need of training and there is much need for improvement in several areas. It has the potential to be a very nice five star hotel but needs to be much better managed. It is definately not what I would class as a five star, more like three as it is now. If anyone would like any further information on this hotel or area then please let me know.

good stay for the price

We stayed at the Mamlouk for one week from Dec 7th - 14th 2007. I t was a really good time to go, very quiet. No problem with sunbeds on the beach or at the pool. Really warm in the daytime but got cold quickly at about 4pm. A good pre-christmas break.

Food was adequate, breakfast better than dinner. The a la carte tex mex was excellent - we would have gone there every night if you could, but limited to one visit per stay.

The rooms were big, nicely decorated and very clean. You could not find anything to complain about at all. We requested a sea view and got one. Staff were exceptionally helpful.

The entertainment at the amphitheatre in the Sunrise Garden Beach was not bad - some nights the professional dancers were very good, other nights not so good but it was not for lack of enthusiasm. Look out for Coco.

All in all an excellent holiday at a very good price.
