Historical Traveller Reviews of Coral Beach Village Hotel

The worst hotel I have ever been to!!

from frankie95
When I booked this hotel I was advised it was a 4*+ but in reality it would struggle to be 2*. The food was awful and very often not cooked properly, for example chicken was still pink inside and sausages raw in the middle. There were a lot of Russian and German guest who seemed to be catered for more than the Brits. At first the beach looked really nice but in fact it was grit and not sand. The animation team made no effort at all to entertain or start games in the pool. There was only ever one person on the bar at any time and you had to wait 30-40 mins to get served. The hotel even ran out of bottled water and also butter on occassions. There is no snorkling available from the beach, yes you do it but there were no fish to see so a pointless exercise. On the plus side the bed linen was spotless as were the towels. The rooms were basic but roomy. Also, I have never stayed anywhere that asked you to sign a disclaimer on arrival to say that if the holiday company fail to pay or went bust, you would pay again. When we asked the rep what it was all about she just said 'oh they all do it now' I dont think so as I was away in March and nothing like that happened.Hurgarda it self was not very nice and every one seemed to be 'in your face' and hasseling you to go with them. I have been to Sharm El Shiek and it was noting like this. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone with children as apart from a playground there didnt seem anything else for them to do and although I had no children in my party people we spoke to that had them said the same.

A nice place to relax

from Azalka
We have just came back from a one week at a Coral beach. The hotel was so calm. There was a plenty of space for anyone and a good atmosphere. Staff was pleasant to us. Especially our small children enjoyed so much the comunication with them. The private beach is over 1000 metres long so you can have your own private place. There is a nice reef where you can snorkel anytime. It is just about 5 minutes from the room. Rooms are large and clean, nicely furnished. Just you have to make sure to be accomodated in the reconstracted one (the hotel area is divided into 4 parts. No.1 is now under reconstruction, No. 2 and 3 is done and No.4 is before reconstruction and the quality is deffinately lower then the other one - furniture is old, air conditioner does not work so well etc.). Food was good. We always enjoy the local food and they cooked both international and also local. There is very nice garden, and we liked the evening athmosphere on our terace. It is nice place to relax from the busy places, cars etc. and it is a good value for money.

I love this hotel

from PianoPiano
Overall the Hotel compares well to a 4 Star standard with lovely reception area, gardens and restaurants.
The Food was the usual All-Inclusive buffet style with a good selection each night
For the size of the hotel the 02 Pools was LARGE, however, we only used the pool 03 times all week as the beach of the the hotel was much bigger and better than any pool !its the most long beach in hurghada about 1250 m,
It is well worth upgrading to a Select room with a full sea view as our room was on the beach looking out onto the beach,, Great location if you have kids and loads of inflatables and beach gear. There are plenty of Parosols and they are large enough for 4 sunbeds.
Good Advice would be :-
If you want to go snorkelling then the Bay does have Fish etc in it, it is cloudy due to the Boats and man made silt.
Our advice is to walk approx 2 minutes to the Dive Centre ( large round building at the edge of the bay) and arrange a boat trip.
If you want anything from the shops in the hotel then barter to at least 50% of the starting price - most of the stuff can be purchased at Hurghada Airport on the way home for alot less !!!
The Airport is like a massive Market Hall packed with as much crap as you can carry - any currency is accepted Euros mainly, Egyptian Pounds, Sterling, buttons, pebbles etc
There are some shops about a 10 minute walk from the hotel - but expect to get majorly hassled before during and after your trip to the shops.
If you go on Google Earth and search for the Coral Beach Rotana Hurghada, then there are quite a few Photos on there and you can see the layout of the hotel, pool, beach and the beach front bugalows.
Overall - it was an excellent holiday made by our room location on the beach and the .

worst hotels i ever see

from saggaf
I went to the Coral Beach Rotana Resort-Hurghada hotel based on my early reservation through Hotels.com at 5:00 PM in 7/21/2007 and they mention that I have no reservation as it was cancelled automatically by 2:00 PM if I did not show off!!!

Then after I met the manager, they give me one double room instead of the suite that I reserved with the same price with only dinner included!!!

The room was terrible with a non working refrigerator and faulty air condition, and I spent a knight mare night, also there was a lot of ants in the room with no soap at bathroom, I could not sleep until 1:00 AM because of the maintenance, furthermore one of the reception member called me at 12:30 AM to tell me that I have a visitor! Which was a rent car company sales man!!!??

In the morning they mentioned to me that I need to bay the 145$++ which is 182$ for this miserable room.

I felt that I was dealing with a group of criminals not a hotel staff!!

Awful

from S6Bex
We have just returned from a week at the Coral Beach Rotana and although we have stayed in various places around the world ranging from 2 star in India to 5 star in Hurghada, Luxor and Djerba, I have never felt compelled to right a review on my return, until now that is.

We arrived at the hotel late on Friday evening and our initial impression of the room was good it was clean, very spacious with two double beds and a large bathroom. However, on opening the door to the terrace we found that this was overrun with very large ants. We had read about this problem from a review on another site and had luckily brought along a can of ant spray which helped with the problem although my partner still got bitten by one and was sore for several days. There was an English movie channel which provided our entertainment as by Monday evening we had such severe stomach upsets we had to spend a lot of time in the room, indeed we have today been to the doctors as we still cannot keep any food down, five days after arriving home! On the last evening of our stay, the water tank burst causing the bathroom ceiling to collapse and flood the bathroom with scalding hot orangey/brown water, unfortunately my partner was on the toilet at the time (as we had been for most of the week) and his legs were splashed with scalding water.

Everything at the hotel is wide spread and it is quite a walk to the beach, the pool and the restaurant. During our stay the bar at the large pool was open and one of the beach bars, the bar at the smaller pool however and one on the beach was closed. When you had been to the bar, inevitably by the time you reached your sun lounger, your drinks had been drunk. Drinks were not self serve as you usually find at all inclusive hotels and were served in half pint glasses (if you were lucky) or plastic cups. Wine is only available with meals. Bottled water is not included with all inclusive and these have to be purchased from the bar (albeit at a minimal cost of approx 80p) There were two water coolers, one at the pool bar and one in the restaurant, however, as at home these were not plugged in to the mains and the water was warm, particularly so in the heat of the sun at the beach bar. We found most people took the empty water bottles to refill in the restaurant and place in the fridges in their rooms to cool.

The beach was not so much sand as gravel and there were several large rocks to go over before entering the sea although the snorkelling was amazing once there, which was the only highlight of our stay, along with the fabulous sunshine.

Food was awful. I am by no means a fussy eater and can always find something to eat however breakfast was mashed potato, runny scrambled egg, boiled egg, bread, cheese, pastries and cereal. The toaster was not working properly and merely “heated” the bread. Dinner was the same every evening with one rice dish, one pasta dish, one chicken, one beef, one vegetable and one type of potato, which one evening was heated potato crisps, as in Walkers ready salted (I kid you not). The salads were plentiful and the choice of bread was very good, thankfully, as this is what we lived on all week as we were scared to eat anything else for fear of making our tummy’s any worse. There were about 8 choices for dessert consisting of cake, jelly and fresh melon but these were the exact same choices every meal time. Lunch times were the same. The literature in the rooms state that snacks are available during the day, these were not crepes, ice creams or beach b-b-q’s but merely sweaty cheese and lettuce rolls kept in an ice cream freezer on the beach.

The hotel is in the middle of nowhere and there are no shops or bars for miles around so you really are limited as to what you do and most of the entertainment was in German.

This review may seem severe but as mentioned previously, I felt compelled to advise fellow travellers of the hotel. Last May we stayed in Hurghada at the Grand Siva Hotel which was faultless and suggest if you are planning a trip to Hurghada you stay there or in one of the many other hotels in Hurghada as The Coral Beach Resort is simply one of the poorest places I have ever stayed and I have never been so happy to return home,

Lovely 4 Star Hotel - Beach Location is a must !

from Bud71
Hi All
We have just returned back from a weeks holiday at the Coral Sea Hotel in Hurghada (used to be called The Conrad Hotel until Dec 2006).
We were a mixed group of 7 (5 Adults and 2 children 8 & 7 yrs old).
The holiday was booked through First Choice and the rep (Carol) in the resort was helpful (She actually lives in the hotel).
Overall the Hotel compares well to a 4 Star standard with lovely reception area, gardens and restaurants.
The Food was the usual All-Inclusive buffet style with a good selection each night (If you only like chips and burgers you may be struggling - although chips are available at the Posiedon Beach Bar in the afternoons).
For the size of the hotel the Pool was quite small, however, we only used the pool once all week as the Bay comes into the hotel complex and was much bigger and better than any pool !
It is well worth upgrading to a Select room with a full sea view as our room was on the beach looking out onto the bay (apprx 15 strides from Patio Doors to the Sea !!! Great location if you have kids and loads of inflatables and beach gear.
These are available through the rep for about £24 but you are stuck on a boat with approx 30 people.
We hired the same boat for the 7 of us (with 3 crew) for a full day including lunch and drinks and this was amazing !!!
We paid a total of 340 Euros (about £220) for the full day and we had 3 stops. First snorkelling on the Coral Reef near Gifton Island, then a beach stop on Gifton Island then a different Snorkelling stop on the way back.
The crew were excellent and great with the kids - feeding the fish, helping with their lifejackets, etc.
That one day made our holiday and we would recommend it to anyone - by having the boat to ourselves we were not stuck with a set time routine and could be flexible with our day.
If you want anything from the shops in the hotel then barter to at least 50% of the starting price - most of the stuff can be purchased at Hurghada Airport on the way home for alot less !!!

Negative Points
The First thing that the rep informs everone of as they set off to the hotel on the coach is that most people will get a stomach upset of varying severity.
Out of the 7 of us - 5 were ill to some degree. The majority were just a couple of hours where the toilet needed to be close by, but 1 of our party was very ill and had to get the Doctor out.
Most cases can be resolved by sending one of the Bell Boys to the local chemist for a pack of tablets for £1 + tip.
The UK tablets don't seem to work so make sure you get some in resort at the first signs of anything.
Tipping - Tips seem common place for anybody in Egpyt .
e.g. The bloke driving the bus from the plane to the terminal wanted a tip, there are people in public toilets at the airport wanting a tip for loo roll, and even the bloke at check-in wanted a tip for the cases !!!
However, just be realistic and if they have helped you then tip, otherwise just be polite and they won't pursue it.
Overall - it was an excellent holiday made by our room location on the beach and the Boat trip from Aquarius (Big Boat aswell !!!).
If you have any questions then please ask and we'll reply to you, we also have more pictures if you want to see anything else.

Nightmare!!!

from JBSGermany
We have been on many holidays, but I have to say this was the worst. It was an absolute NIGHTMARE. We had a sea view double room with two good size beds, which was the only good thing I can say about this hotel. However, everynight the rooms were full with large red ants. At one point, I had to wake up during the middle of the night and the bathroom was cover, even the toilet seat. The next day we complained and we received ant spray which we were not keen on using as we had our 3 year old daughter staying with us. On the first day, after swimming in the pool we looked forward to going back to our room for a nice shower. The water reaked of chlorine and we felt that we had a shower with the water from the pool. The pool is very old, the plastic steps are broken and the water smelt (not of chlorine).

My husband actually recommended this hotel, he stayed at this hotel 15 years ago. He said the corals were incredible and that the hotel was good. At that time, this hotel was Half Board. It now has an option for All Inclusive. On the second day of our arrival we decided to go swimming in the ocean. We couldn't believe all the Jelly Fish lying on the beach, it was absolutely covered. This totally put me off from going into the water, but my husband wanted to see the corals again. He came back very disappointed. He said most of the corals are dead and the water is not as clear as it was and all he could see were Jelly Fish.

We booked all inclusive. We felt cheated, the meal on the first day tasted ok, but after the second day the food got worse as it all tasted the same, very bland. Make sure if you have eggs for breakfast that they are cooked thoroughly, the scramble eggs were raw. I love soup, the soup was watery with very little flavour. I tried to flavour it with salt, pepper, etc., but to tell you the truth it was not edible. My husband was first sick for 3 days, with severe cramps in his stomach. Later my daughter and I were very sick (we couldn't keep our food in our stomach - won't go into detail, but both ways (mouth and ---). We all lost weight, as we had no appeite, we knew the consequences if we ate. The drinks were completely foul. My husband and I like to have a couple of drinks in the evening, but the drinks served to us were the cheapest quality and undrinkable. Maybe they serve very (lowest quality) drinks because the Russians were drinking it like water. My husband tried the beer, but that was also undrinkable - warm and left him feeling sick (he is German and he can handle his beer, but not the beer served at this hotel - again the lowest quality beer). I tried the wine, that was also undrinkable - white wine served warm.

The Hotel is mainly catered for the Russians, without the Russians the Hotel would be empty. We couldn't understand why the entertainment not included in the all inclusive was cheaper for the Russians than anyone else (the camel, horse rides, etc.), also drinks served after the all inclusive hours).

The waiters in the Restaurant were all friendly, but only after you gave them a tip. Be prepared to be pestered by the Pool and Beach, every 5 minutes you will have someone approach you trying to sell you something. The same person will keep coming back to you even though you've told him you are not interested. We found after a while they became a little aggressive, when we had to keep telling them we were not interested in what they were selling.

My daughter enjoyed the mini disco everynight, however it didn't start until after 9:00pm.

All the animation takes place outside near the pool, if your room near the pool be prepared for very late nights of loud music. We could hear the music from our room and our room was all the way down near the sea.

So, I would Definitely NOT recommend this hotel. I would rate this Hotel as a 2 or 3 star, not 4.

Disappointing!

from elsaj66
Just returned from our honeymoon in Coral Beach Resort, Hurgarda 20/04/07 - 04/05/07.
This resort & surrounding town is either under major development or reconstruction.
The holiday was sold to us by a very reputable tour operator as a 4* but we were very dissapointed and would rate this at no more than 3*. We met only a handful of British travellers and 9/10 bought the holiday on 3* basis, paying pretty much the same as us. There is absolutely nothing for children to do..the all inclusive activities per person per week - 1/2 hour tennis, 1/2 hour billiards & 1/2 hour table football & 1 trip via shuttle bus to downtown Hurgarda, ...and they are strict on booking in advance, unless you want to tip! There is step aerobics, salsa class, vollyball & football on the beach along with amateur eveneing shows arranged by the animation team. The resort is quite large consisting of 300+ bungalows and is in a slope towards the Red Sea, this could pose problems for those with walking difficulties.
The food is bland and repetetive. Half board guests found that they had no option than to upgrade to all inclusive because of the lack of choice & availability. There is a limited menu available where you can purchase snacks. My husband & I spent the majority of time eating at McD's & Hard Rock in 'new downtown Hurgarda'. There is an 'old downtown' area which is bursting with street vendors and broken down buildings.
Ok the weather is fantastic, you cannot doubt that and so is the snorkeling / diving. The majority of staff cannot do enough for you - tipping is generally expected and is done in advance in a lot of cases. Female employees were few & far between I saw only 4 - throughout my entire trip!! This resort was recommended as a great place for honeymooners and booked accordingly but we were given no acknowledgement of that - they even put us in an ajoining room!! Coral Beach caters mainly for Russians who are very rude and ignorant of other travellers and the staff are happy to tell you of thier dislike.
The private beach which is grit, was SWARMING with harmless jellyfish every day, and on most days you couldn't enter the water from the beach. There are also small jellyfish with tenticles that sting but the staff would not confirm this of course. Two guests we were aware of were stung on seperate occasions, the stings did cause an electric shock type pain and some irritation afterwards.
The general health & safety of the resort was poor - fair in some areas...pool steps broken and some without handrails, dirty beach, broken steps, missing tiles from around the pool area, mixing the chlorine in the pool whilst guests swim, extensive building work, dirty glasses, left over refreshments served to other guests ....sorry I could go on and on.
We booked as all inclusive but this did only apply to the main restaurant for food. Upto midnight you could drink as much as you like as long as you order one drink per person and this is limited to locally produced, fruit juice is only available at a price throughout. Fresh drinking water you have to buy at 22 Egyptian or £2.00 outside the bar times. The mini-bar in your room is in fact a mini-fridge - not stocked.
There is a cash machine on site but this was out of order for about 3 weeks prior to our arrival and remained so when we departed - reception staff advised to use the next hotel a 20 min walk.
There are courtesy rooms available on your last day after checkout for a shower ect. so no need to pay extra to keep your room on, you can pay as you go after your 12 noon all inc check-out.
Our review is only a reflection of the resort and not of Hurgarda or Egypt , this was our first visit to Egypt and was not put off, however we will return to another destination.

Very relaxing

from LoveRotana
Just got back from a week at the Coral Beach Rotana in Hurghada. Thought it would make a change from 4 previous visits at the Coral Beach Rotana in Sharm.
The hotel and rooms are of a very high and spotlessly clean standard. The restaurant staff were great. If you enjoy foreign food, and open to trying new dishes, then you will not be disappointed. Unfortunately for us, the weather was very windy, and the pool was too cold to swim in. The location is beautiful, but litter and jelly fish around the shore line were very off putting. We had a relaxing holiday, but would not go back to Hurghada again.

Nice Hotel, shame about the 25km to Hurghada centre!

from Natcraig80
Visited this hotel Jan/Feb 2007. Found the hotel to be very pleasant.
Rooms
*Our room was lovely. We had two really big double beds. TV with satelitte (only one english channel but it was pretty good!). Bathroom was gorgeous though the bath was quite small. Great if you're a midget like me! Fridge was good, kept our abundance of water cold! Terrace overlooked a landscaped area and from what we saw, all rooms had a terrace. Air con was pretty good, though not needed much in January as temperatures were comfortable.
Food/Drink
*I found the food to be pretty poor but this is usually the case in African all inclusives. Usual eggs, omelettes for breakfast. Always a good choice of salad and desserts! Could have been more fruit on offer. Food could have been much improved if it had been hot. Always managed to find something to eat though. All inclusive beer was as poor as ever, it's always watered down, but pleasant enough.
Dive Centre - Dive Point
*The centre on the beach was absolutely first class. My partner and I pre-booked our diving with them as this was the main reason for our holiday. Communications and payment before we arrived in the resort were very easy and we were offered a discount for booking in advance. Low season didn't impede our diving, and we received a great service. The facilities at the centre were really good and the instructors were great! My partner and I did 4 courses between us and really enjoyed all of them. The dive sites were lovely and the house reef was home to things such as Blue spotted rays and small barracuda. Wonderful!
Our hotel was 25 minutes out of Hurghada so a decent taxi ride away. Taxis were cheap and always available but Egyptian driving is interesting to say the least! We found there was a lack of decent nightlife around our hotel. We just wanted a comfy bar with a bit of background music but instead went to bed early most nights. Entertainment was provided but wasn't really our thing so I can't reallycomment! I'm sure there's more going on around the resort in peak season. As other people have said, English people are in the minority in this hotel andHurghada as a whole. That said, we had no issues with Germans or Russians on our
stay!
