I was originally booked into a very poor hotel, the Garden City Hotel. The travel agent at Misr travel in the Semiaramis Hotel found this hotel for me. I was relieved and felt as if I had reached a refuge, because I was rather overwhelmed with Cairo. It seems to be a nice family oriented hotel with mostly Arab guests, which suits me just fine. I would stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Cairo
Taking your photo scams Do not let anyone have your camera. People, including tourist police officers, will offer to take a photo of you. Once they have the camera they will not return it without receiving a "tip" for the service of taking the photo. "Tips" can be quite expensive, from $40-$100 to get back a quality camera. Beware of this trick. Same for Camel rides, they will offer to take the photo and in addition to not giving back the camera they will not let you down from the Camel. It's a lot higher off the ground than you think.
Its very easy to get ripped off.... Make sure you have your wits about you as it is very easy to get ripped off.
