Historical Traveller Reviews of Osiris Hotel

Great value and friendly

from Nilebabe
We found the Osiris Hotel on this website, read some positive reviews and decided to stay there for the 3 days we were in Cairo. Apart from the great value for money, the staff at Osiris really go out of their way to help. We arrived about 11pm after a delayed flight, yet by 7.30 the next morning we had a guide and driver and were off to the pyramids. When we mentioned the room was small (we are a family of 3), we were switched to a huge family room - at the same price! And the location in downtown Cairo is great - walking distance to the Museum, with lots of cafes around including Macdonalds. Our only complaint was the lack of fresh fruit on the breakfast table, but that could well be a personal preference.

Great breakfast! Rocking View. Nice people.

I had a great stay for four nights at the Hotel Osiris. Cairo can be pretty intimidating and loud, but the Osiris was quiet and nice for the price. Nabil gave me helpful advice and they have a great driver who picked me up at the airport for a really reasonable price - I think 13 or 14 Euro. Also, I was in egypt for four weeks, and this was by far the best hotel breakfast I ate. The only think preventing me from giving it a five was that there isnt a kitchen you can order drinks/snacks from (although they do have their own kitchen). There is such a nice view (discounting the fact that ALL roofs in Egypt have trash on them), I would have liked to had another excuse to enjoy it.

Staying here was definitely a "high point" for my trip to Cairo, literally! It's located on the 12th floor of a 13th floor building, giving you the peace and serenity of being above and away from all the noice and craziness of the city.

The host, Nabil, and his amazing staff treated us like family. They are a hard-working, fun, and friendly bunch. They go out of their way to make you feel at home.

The place is beautifully decorated. I loved that you can go up on the roof and enjoy the cool night air and a spectacular view of the city.

We requested to eat dinner here several different nights, and the staff put out a wonderful spread of the best food we had the whole time we were in Cairo!

Thank you Osiris!

fantastic hotel

I would just like to say this was a fantastic hotel.
everybody made us feel wellcome if Nabil offers you the chance to book a car and guide for the pyramids etc take it because we had an excellent day with Mohammed. They sorted out the transfer from the airport and back he even rang me on the taxi drivers mobile to wish me a safe journey back to sharm el sheikh.
The hotel is only 10 mins walk from the museam.

Hotel Osiris was a home away from home

from Judywalk
My family of 5 recently stayed at Hotel Osiris twice during our 15-day visit to Egypt. It's an oasis of clean and calm in the midst of a very hectic city. The location can't be beat, in easy walking distance from the Corniche, The Egyptian Museum and the American University in Cairo.

The staff is terrific, the beds quite comfy, and having incredibly cheap internet access on site was a nice plus. The rooftop sitting area is lovely, as is the breakfast area on the verdanda. The "oriental" inspired decorating schemes are perfect.

The Manager, Nabil, was right on the money with his recommendations for drivers and other logistical help, and in fact saved us money and hassle.

I would highly recommend Hotel Osiris, especially for those interested in experiencing Cairo without the cocoon of a large chain hotel. It's a terrific value for the dollar (or Euro!).

Quite simply the best hotel experience in my life!

Just what I needed after coming in off the busy streets being hassled by vendors and dodging traffic. Nabil, the owner, and the staff are a breath of fresh air. Serenly hospitable and genuinely interested in hosting us well, they take pride in being the "Best Hotel" in Cairo. Fair prices for anything you need from laundry to dinner to touring accompany there extremely affordable room rates. This luxury hasn't been offered at this price in any other country I've visited and no place or people have ever endeared thenselves to me like the staff and owners of the Osiris. Cancel your reservations at the Hyatt for a room in this cozy, comfortable, genuine taste of Egyptian hospitality.

Excellent Host!

Excellent price/value! Very clean! The staff was very helpful. I had a late night flight and they let me check out and come back in the evening and take a shower for free! Also they held my luggage and arranged a taxi to the airport. Recommended!

Home away from Home

I was very impressed with the Hotel Osiris for may reasons. The place was clean, well maintained and appealling. The beds were excellent which is saying something in Cairo. How about modern airconditioning units in every room! But these are just the normal categories of excellence. Hotel Osiris goes way beyond this. The staff is more than friendly. Most speak adaquate English and French to communicate and even joke around with the guests. It is a small hotel with a variety of room types which also makes it very homey. Guests like to hang around in the very comforable Egyptian style lounge or the 14th floor roof-top patio. The proprietor, Mr. Nabil is perhaps the best asset of Hotel Osiris. He is a consummate host, great conversationalist in English, French or Arabic and is also a great chef. He also has good connections for tourist bargains for all the great destinations. The best I can say is that the staff at Osiris make you feel like you are staying with a favorite uncle rather than at just another hotel.

Disipointed

from ZacharyS
We arrived late and found the owners up chatting with other guests and were greeted warmly and asked if I had a reservation which I did. I gave my name and the husband (husband and wife owners) looked puzzled at his reservation list as I was not on it. I pulled out the email confirmation that I got from his wife a month earlier and he called her over, they argued for a bit in French and he said that "I never confirmed my reservation" even though the email I received from them said "Thanks for confirming your reservation we look forward to seeing you", I pointed this out and he said "you needed to reply to this email" which I had, I wrote "Thanks, I look forward to seeing you in May".

He informed me that there was only one room "a family room" with 3 beds available and it was not an insuite as I had reserved and I would have to share it with another room for one night and they would move me to another room the next day with a private bathroom. I was never moved as there were never any rooms available so we were in the room the whole time, the room was nice minus the bathroom and the bathroom wouldn't have been that big of a deal but our room was situated so that everyone sitting in the lobby could see us coming and going from our room, so in the middle of the night I would have to get fully clothed to use the bathroom so not to put on a show (people were in the lobby all the time), and often when we needed to use the bathroom it was being used by others.

When I finally checked out I was informed that the "family room" was 50% more expensive then the room that I reserved because it had 3 beds. We didn't request the room, we had no use for 3 beds, it was no advantage to us, plus we had to share a bathroom outside our room! He offered to reduce the price to what they gave us over email as if this was a huge favor to me. The room in fact was worth far less to me then the room I reserved, at this point after all the hassle in Cairo I was too tired to argue and relented and paid the price.

The other annoyance was that we hired taxis twice through the hotel at highly inflated prices but we did it for convenience so I was alright with it, but both times the second we got out of the cab the drivers were asking for tips and baksheesh, before I even had a chance to offer it up. I don't know if the hotel was pocketing all but the basic taxi fair they were paying their drivers or what, but I figured some or most of the extra money would trickle down to their drivers so they would not be pressed into aggressively pursuing tips.

Impossible

Having read all the enthusiastic reviews we wanted to spend two nights at the Osiris in May 2007, Thursday to Saturday. We phoned them up on Monday evening talking to a confused person who told us to come again next morning. So we phoned again on Tuesday morning only to be informed that there was no booking on the telephone, we should send an e-mail instead. We found an internet spot and sent an e-mail asking for a quick reply. In the evening there was no reply and still none the next morning. So we phoned them up again and they told us they would answer the mail in the afternoon. As this was the day before our trip we insisted to be informed if they had a room at all. They then told us they were fully booked.
Apparently they tried to keep us waiting and un-informed as long as possible, so they would have an option in case someone would cancel his room. This may be a good idea for them. But we did not really like it.
Booking a room at the Sheraton then took us just five minutes. But that is another story.
