Cant Moan at the price!!

We stayed here for 3 nights in Sep 06 in a double room. The hotel is tucked away in a quiet side street but very close to the city centre, shops, restaurants etc. very easy to get cabs just round the corner. The reception is small with small bar/seating area adjacent to it. I asked to look at 2 rooms as some are better & larger than others. We paid 85 egyptian pounds for a double room per night so I was a bit wary as to what to expect! The room was a decent size with air/con, small TV & private facilities. It was great as a base & the beds were comfortable. The furniture/decor in the rooms & bathroom were very old though but i did not expect too much for the price & was clean with no bugs or roaches which is the most important thing! If u fancy a bite to eat & are too tired to venture out, one of the workers can call a delivery from outside for you, which we had & was lovely. ( they even bought me some plasters & headache tablets one day) they are happy to do anything for a small tip. there were many other tourists there & we only booked on the day we arrived. If you arnt looking for anything more than a base & are on a budget then its better than most in Cairo!

Top Local Tips for Cairo

Making it easy on yourself I know it's been written hundreds of times, but travelling around Egypt is so much easier as a female when covered up a little, I don't mean the whole head scarf act, but with modestly long sleeves (an ordinary t- shirt seemed fine) and three quarter length trousers (capri pants) even when I travelled around on my own in rural areas I was not hassled. A large scarf/pashmina serves a multitude of purposes, from protection from the sun to scarf for even more modesty. Wearing sun glasses, helps avoid eye contact, which may help with the 'keeping your distant' bit too! Walking along the river front in Aswan seeing other ladies with strapless tops and shorts (even with 'husband' types accompanying them) the contrast was so marked- they were hassled for caleche rides/ felluca trips/shops - you name it. A polite but firm 'La sucran' (no thanks) helps a lot too.
