Historical Traveller Reviews of Conrad International Cairo Hotel
Helped make our stay in Cairo great!
from lolabugThe rooms are beautifully done with all the amenities you would expect from a five star facility. The room was a good size even with two double beds. The bathroom as big enough for two women to share with ease.
Free bottled water that was replaced twice a day was a nice touch.
The expensive internet access was easily accessible in the rooms.
The breakfast buffet was extensive with all the typical stuff including omlettes made to order.
The location is convient to the Eyptian Museum and other attractions.
Never take the taxis from the hotel. It will be at least twice as expensive as a regular taxi from the street (make you haggle on the price).
The Sangria/ Absolute restaurant and bar across the street is very nice with a beautiful view of the Nile.
Definitely try the restaurant, La Bodega, on Zamalek for some unique dishes in a beautiful atmosphere.
The concierge was helpful but the bellboys were a little slow in bringing our luggage (and even temporarily lost one piece).
Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Conrad and would highly recommend it.
Nightmare
from WatfordTravellerThere is a terrible problem with noise at this hotel. We had an Executive floor room, and whenever adjoining rooms used bathroom could be heard. We would have overlooked this except our Egyptian neighbours slept all day and partied from 1.30am. After 3 days of Whitney Houston and the neighbours singing along (especially badly) and complaints every night, moved rooms only to have same problem on another floor. We understand there were repeated calls from other guests about the noise. The hotel seems unprepared to deal with the problem almost blaming complaining guest for expecting to sleep at night. Certainly not the experience expected as husband sadly spends 70+ nights per year in Conrad/Hilton hotels.
Very good Executive Lounge with butler service. Impressed with selection of beverages, food including the best fresh strawberry juice ever tasted. The beds were comfortable but overall these plus points in no way compensated us for a lack of sleep.
Pleasant experience
from Centaur47Access to the casino requires a passport for entry.
Tip for travellers: Make sure that you have a stock of Egyptian Five Pound notes for tipping - otherwise it's a US dollar per tip. Egyptian money is often very soiled, and the Five Pound note more so - get some from a bank before you start. Be prepared to tip everyone irregardless of the quality of service - they have the US disease.
Pleasant stay
from Sal123Best deal in Cairo - Executive Level at the Conrad
from DreamtcWow what a nice surprise! Sharon-Lake District UK
from HellingsThe reception staff are proffessional and speak good english.
The Hotel was in a great location close to Museum and 15 mins drive to Pyramids.
The Concierge suggested a driver/guide called Hany who had a good grasp of English and showed us around for reasonable rates in an air conditioned car which they refer to as a limousine.
The room was not overly spacious but was very comfortable and well appointed. It had 2 double beds and a beautiful bathroom.
Our balcony overlooked the quiet heated pool area and the Nile.
The 24 hour restaurant served the best food we had tasted in Egypt. Buffet style with loads of options and the food was replaced regularly with hot freshy food.
The Dinner buffet cost £12 for all you could eat. Children were also accommodated. An alternative restaurant was available. No children under 10. There was a fish restaurant that accepted children and the foyer area had a bar and pianist and was also child friendly. The upstairs bar did not allow children but you could walk through to the outside sating with views over nile where there was waiter service. Excellent value for money. Book direct and pay £65.00 per night. We could not contact hotel direct direct for some reason and booked through lastminute.com for £80.00per night. Still good value compared with England.
Lovely Hotel
from TinadubaiI loved it!
from Nats_86Excellent stay at the Conrad!
from R RameyThe hotel has a casino in site but it's not worth the effort to get in.
Staff and management was eager to answer questions and assist with tranportation to museums and various sites.
Across the street a falucca and trusty captain can be rented for a memorable afternoon sail on the Nile.
While the Cairo museum is only about a mile and quarter away do not attempt to walk to it. The traffic is chaos and bedlam. Millions of autos, scooters and donkey carts jam the roads. Let the hotel summon a taxi. The pyramids of Giza is about 14 miles from the Conrad but expect the trip to take about 45 minutes or an hour. Again, the traffic!
The Conrad is in the middle of everything in Cairo and I'd recommend the Conrad to everyone visiting Egypt.
Loved the Conrad Cairo
from AussiehoneymoonerThe restaurants at the hotel are really lovely especially the Italian one.
Our room was clean, modern and the marble bathroom huge! The bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever had....
Fantastic hotel all round - will not disappoint
Top Local Tips for Cairo
Tipping Protocol Everyone expects a tip - most are not aggressive, but rather grateful. A Five Egyptian pound note is good for minor service - make sure you have plenty. They are hard to come by at banks. Otherwise a US One dollar is OK or multiples thereof. Currencies that are welcomed as long as they are bank notes and not coins include Australian, Euro, British pounds. Coins are useless to them and are usually dumped or not accepted. Don't overtip - North Americans have a reputation as big tippers and have distorted the system - this means Canadians too! Australians and Brits are considered poor tippers - deservedly. Don't tip the children - they are exploited by adults.
Saqqara pyramids are absolutely worth the trip If you can only go to Cairo on your trip, take the time to see the Saqqara pyramids and museum in addition to Giza. See one of the tombs, spend the 50 pounds and get a tour of one of the recently discovered tombs, with indescribably beautiful carvings and paintings on the interior.
From the Airport to Downtown Cairo Our loney planet guide book informed us of the 2LE bus from the airport to downtown Cairo. The big problem for us was our inability to tell which bus went to downtown Cairo. Several very helpful people at the bus station helped us get on the corect bus. It helped to ask for the bus to "Tahrir" (for downtown Cairo). Once we got the bus, the driver gave us too little change and a passenger sitting behind us got the correct change for us from the driver. We reccomend the bus for those willing to depend on the help of others and on a tight budget. But for those who can afford a taxi/car, bargain, bargain, bargain. That said, after several taxi trips in and around Cairo, even that got stressful and taxi drivers didn't always appear to know where you wanted to go or how much it should cost. The driving varied greatly- one driver was far too aggressive and one driver's car couldn't go above 40MPH. The condition of some cars were appalling while others appears to be in good shape.
