I stayed at the SetiFirst Abu Simbel hotel from January 16th - January 17th. At check in the hotel's reception manager charged me a US $40 extra person fee - even though my reservation was made for Twin beds. My father and I became violently sick from the food served at lunch and dinner on January 16th (which we were charged 175LE). Furthermore, on the morning of January 17, 2009, the shower curtain rod fell - prompting me to make a visit to the front desk. Two hours went by with no response. When I asked to speak to the manager - I was given the phone to the hotel reception manager who said that the shower curtain falling "wasn't his problem." When I threatened to not pay the bill until he came to the lobby to speak with me about the shower curtain - he stated that he would "call the police and have me arrested" if I didn't pay the bill right there and then. I immediately paid the bill first by credit card and then by cash - as the credit card transaction supposedly did not go through (which I later found out was a lie). The reception manager spoke out of line and should NOT be the reception manager. He later apologized stating that he "did not get much sleep." Upon checking out, my taxi was not allowed to proceed out of the gate until our room was checked.
