Top Local Tips for Gabarone
Ensuring Security for travellers Arrange Taxis through your Hotel or the Tourist Information Dept. There are a great many people with cars offering a taxi service. They may be perfectly genuine - but I felt it too risky to jump in an unregistered car.
Local to Gabs The Lion park south of Gaborone is CLOSED. I would suggest going to the Gaborone Nature reserve - - its cheap and it has lots of Antolope/Buck.
Personal recommendation The cresta President is centrally located; facilities are good; staff attitude friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable, clean, etc. Restaurant provides good variety of food. Be careful of getting into unregistered taxis - i almost made several mistakes. If you are waiting for a taxi people will approach and ask you to get into their car - quite risky. Gabrone is a small city, spread out with no centre. There is a good museum, BotswanaCraft and a three Chiefs monument with a tourist guide. There are a number of shopping malls. The Bull and Bush Pub is good for a meal - a variety of reasonably priced meals on the Menu.
