Arlington is located directly across the Potomac River from Washington DC. The area was home to American Indian communities for over 10 000 years. English settlers arrived in the 1600s and set up farming communities in the area.
During he Civil War Arlington was used as a Confederate lookout early on. Later on in the war the area was occupied by Federal troops.
At this time, Arlington is still a county, with no incorporated cities or towns within its boundaries. |
