Plano was settled in the 1850s by farmers from neighbouring states. The name means plains in Spanish as a reference to the vast plains that make up the countryside. In the early years the town was a center for cattle farming, after the connection to the Texas railroad however, the local economy began to diversify.
With the proximity to Dallas, Plano prospered in the latter half of the 20th century with many people moving to the area. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the US. |

Plano Art Centre – Housed in a recently renovated downtown building, this “home of the arts” has something for everyone. You can catch a play or performance at the theatre or wander through the art gallery featuring some quality local artists as well as national exhibitions.
Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary – This museum features exhibits that include fossils, Indian artefacts, rocks, minerals and seashells. There are also some wild animals to be seen here. Entrance is free, although donations are welcome. The facility is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm.
Southfork Ranch – No trip to North Dallas would be complete without a visit to the home of the infamous Ewings – Southfork Ranch. Here you can take a tour of the mansion and view many of the famous areas of the ranch. It is a good place to pick up some western collectables such as a cowboy hat or boots. Admission is not expensive, and afterwards, why not have a snack at Miss Ellie’s Deli. |

Parkway Centre Cafe & Bakery – Perfect for breakfast or lunch, this restaurant features an eight-foot salad bar. The menu includes a variety of sandwiches, wraps, pastries and deserts. A gourmet espresso bar is also on site. The address is 2745 North Dallas Parkway.
Plano Cafe – Open all week, this restaurant serves a variety of Continental and American dishes at moderate prices. The address is 1915 North Central Expressway.
El Chico Restaurant – For authentic Mexican cuisine, head for El Chico Restaurant located at 2205 North Central Expressway. The meals are freshly prepared and are moderately priced. No Mexican experience would be complete without tequila or margarita, and this restaurant offers a fine selection imported from Mexico. |

The End Zone – This sports bar is the place to be during any major sporting event with it excellent big screen TVs. The drinks are moderately priced and so is the food should you decide to eat here. The address is 3033 West Parker Road.
Trinity Hall – This traditional Irish pub and restaurant is extremely friendly and well supported. The food is good, but pricier than an average pub. The pub is open every day from 10.30am to 2am. |
