Gatlinburg was first settled in the early 19th century by the Oglesby family from South Carolina. The town grew slowly with the addition of a church, then a post office and eventually a school was completed by 1867. The original town name of White Oaks was changed midway through the 19th century to Gatlinburg after Radford Gatlin, a prominent figure in the town.
These days Gatlinburg is known as a good place for family fun, entertainment and recreation in beautiful surroundings. |

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies – This outstanding aquarium features a moving walkway that takes you on a tour through a wonderfully clear tunnel along the floor of a 1 million gallon tank inhabited by around 10 000 fish. The aquarium is at 88 River Road and is open daily all year round.
Guinness World Records Museum – You have read the book, now see the museum. Here you will find memorabilia and exhibits showcasing some of the world’s greatest records. The address is 631 Parkway, B-11.
Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum – This museum features over 1000 bizarre and interesting exhibits collected from all over the world. This facility was inspired by the famous television show of the same name and is linked to other Ripley attractions around town. If you get a combo ticket you can save on the admission price for the other Ripley attractions. The address is 800 Parkway. |

The Brass Lantern – Located in downtown Gatlinburg, this restaurant is ideal for the whole family. The atmosphere is casual and friendly with good value for money. The adjoining cocktail lounge is the place to begin the evening before you move on to the mouthwatering menu that includes hand cut steaks, barbecue ribs and famous vegetable soup.
Maxwell’s – For seafood lovers, Maxwell’s will not disappoint. The menu includes oysters on the half shell, charbroiled tuna as well as Smoky Mountain rainbow trout. Meat lovers are not excluded with a variety of beef dishes to choose from. To end with, try one of the fine homemade desserts. Maxwell’s is located at 1103 Parkway.
The Peddler – Consistently rated as Gatlinburg’s best restaurant, The Peddler is located in one of the town’s original pioneer cabins. The menu includes traditional dishes including steaks, seafood, chicken and salads served as you like them. The restaurant is open all week from 5pm onwards. |

The Fox & Parrot Tavern – Themed as a British style pub with English draught ales, pub food and games, you are sure to have an enjoyable time here.
Hogg’s & Honey’s Saloon & Grill – Located upstairs at 745 Parkway, the central location of this lively pub makes it a natural choice for visitors in Gatlinburg. The atmosphere is friendly with moderately priced drinks; there is a menu that is really good should you decide to get something to eat here.
Fillin’ Station Grill & Pub – For a really affordable meal and drinks, this is the place to come. Almost nothing is over the $6 mark, which means you can have a good time and not spend your entire budget paying for it. There are six TVs here as well as a pool table and board games for entertainment. The address is 1456 Parkway. |

Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre – For original musical comedies this theatre is one of the top attractions in town. The shows last two hours and are very affordable. |
