Columbus is named after the discoverer Christopher Columbus and is located in the center of the state of Ohio, on the banks of the Scioto River. Due to Columbus’s location on the river, Columbus has attracted visitors, settlers and money here. The Ohio Legislature was moved from Chillicothe to Columbus in 1816. When the rest of Ohio began to suffer from industrial decline, Columbus seemed to prosper, mainly because of its economy, which is based on the state government, education, finance, insurance and light industry. This has made Columbus an attractive place to live and visit.
The Ohio State University calls Columbus home; this is the largest academic institution and has over 50000 students. Many headquarters of a number of Fortune 500 companies are based in Columbus, and many of their executives claim that they would never leave the city.

Columbus Museum of Art – Located at 480 E. Broad Street. The Columbus Museum looks like an Italian Renaissance structure and houses some significant artifacts including the Sirak collection of European Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and German Expressionist masterworks. There are also interactive exhibits for the children.
Seip Mound – Located at Bainbridge. At this site you will find the remaining central mound of a large group of geometric earthworks from the Hopewell culture, some 100 B.C –A.D. 500. Some of the artifacts from Seip Mound are on display at the Ohio Historical Center.
Ohio Historical Society – Located at 1982 Velma Avenue. Housed at the Ohio Historical Society are more than two million items relating to Ohio’s history, archeology and natural history. There are exhibits from prehistoric Indians to modern industry, and this is a great way to get to know about the entire state.
German Village – Located at 588 S. Third Street. This is an authentic, restored immigrant district, which is located just a few blocks from downtown Columbus. German Immigrants built these 19th century houses, with narrow brick streets, interesting shops and fragrant bakeries.

Bexley’s Monk – Located at 2232 E. Main Street. This restaurant draws a lively crowd for its delicious pizza’s pastas, rack of lamb and seafood dishes. The desserts here are spectacular. You can dine in the formal wood-panel dining room or in the spacious bar area with its checkerboard floor and wood-fire pizza oven. In the evenings there is live entertainment consisting of jazz musicians or a piano player. No lunch is served here over the weekends.
The Clarmont – Located at 684 S. High Street. This restaurant is famous for entertaining the powerbrokers for breakfast and lunch and the theatregoers for dinner. The menu includes steak, lamb, veal, pork, surf ‘n’ turf, scallops, shrimp and the famous chicken in a clay pot which is served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. This favourite is only available while stocks lasts, and it does go quickly. A pianist entertains from Thursday evening to Saturday evening. No breakfast or lunch is served on Sunday’s.
Fisherman’s Wharf – Located at 2143 E. Main Street. When you walk into this restaurant and see the décor you will realise that this restaurant is all about seafood. There are Stuffed and mounted fish, ship models and other nautical artefacts on the walls. There are a surprisingly large variety of chicken, lamb and beef dishes on the menu; their speciality however, is fresh seafood. No Lunch is served on Saturday’s.
Hyde Park Grille – Located at 1615 Old Henderson Road. At this restaurant, steaks are the name of the game. They are named after famous Ohio sports figures. You can also find seafood on the menu, but this is straightforward, nothing fancy. The dining room is cosy and the décor is dark wood with a warm fireplace. There is live entertainment Wednesday to Sunday.

The River Club – This is a fine-dining establishment and cocktail lounge where you can hear live jazz on the weekends. The River Club offers a spectacular view of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, which are framed by the downtown skyline.
The Flatiron Bar & Grille – This cigar bar is a casual upscale hangout, in a wedge-shaped corner structure, which is reminiscent of New York’s famous Flatiron Building. There is a great jukebox that plays all the old favorites and a menu, which serves up barbecue and Cajun food.
Skankland – This is an authentic Caribbean club where you can sample Jamaican cuisine and dance to reggae music.
Hoster Brewing Company – At this bar you will find better than average bar food and a popular microbrew, which is brewed locally. There are live local and touring bands on weekends.

| Park of Roses – Located at 3901 N. High Street. This park boasts a collection of 11000 rosebushes of 300 varieties. At this park you can view the Heritage Rose Garden, a Daffodil Garden and the Perennial Garden. There is a Rose Festival, which is held every year during the second week of June. |

The North Market – Located at 59 Spruce Street. This is central Ohio’s only public market where you can buy flowers, ethnic cuisine, fresh and prepared foods and unique gifts.
The Continent – Located at 6076 Busch Boulevard. This is a European themed festival market place, which features many specialty shops, 6 restaurants, a Comedy club, large nightclub, small drinking establishments and a cinema.
Columbus City Center Shopping Center – Located at 111 S. Third Street. This downtown shopping complex has over 150 specialty shops, restaurants and department stores.

| COSI-Columbus – Located at 333 W. Broad Street. COSI is a great place to explore and experience science. There are four floors of hands on exhibits, which include an animal lab, planetarium, and an explosive chemistry demonstration and coal mine. |
