Adirondack Museum - The museum overlooks the lakes and there are 20 buildings on 32 acres, with exhibits on logging, boats and boating, mining, outdoor recreation, transportation and rustic furniture.The museum also has exhibits and programmes telling how people lived, worked, played and travelled in this region since the 1800's.
The museum library holds more publications, maps and other printed material about this region than any other single location and the 65 000 historic photographs provide a wonderful visual exhibition.
Fort Ticonderoga - This world-renown museum is more than just a restored fortess, but the site of major victories in the 7 Year war and the American revolution, and you come away with a deeper understanding of American history from the French and Indian War and Revolutionary war periods of the 18th Century.
You can experience the meaning of freedom, personal sacrifice and public responsibility as you explore the stories of the men, women and children whose lives are part of the Fort's collection. Open daily between May and October.
1932 and 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum - Explore the legacy of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic games in the many great exhibits which include video highlights, athlete's uniforms and equipment and historical information about all the area's Olympic sites. Open daily, you can also enjoy a self guided audio tour.

Freestyle Cuisine - 51 Main Str. It offers two menus, with the more casual bar offering great game burgers, salads, pizzas and light fare, while the diningroom offers fresh, seasonal seafood, steaks, lamb and game. It uses the freshest ingredients, often organic and natural. Open for dinner only between 5pm - 9:30pm
Great Adirondack Steak and Seafood Co - 34 Main Str. Enjoy fresh seafood and handcut steaks in an authentic antique atmosphere with a fireplace and a 7-barrel microbrewery tour available. Children;s menu is also available and is open daily from 11:30am.
Lake Placid Pub and Brewery - 14 Mirror Lake Dr. Whether upstairs in the top-quality brewpub or downstairs in the P.J.O'Neill's, you will experience the true Irish bar with the warm character of aged wood and brick. There is a seasonal outside deck, pool, darts, fireplace and a children's menu. Open from 11:30am to about 3:00am daily. |

The Great Outdoors is a experience in the area around Lake Placid, that includes hiking, canoeing and kayaking. The mountains are many and varied, with 46 peaks rising above 4000 feet. The tallest are in the Lake Placid area, with Marcy's being the tallest at 5344ft., which is the highest point in the state. You can enjoy a hike to the summit or go on an equally scenic easy jaunt to many other spectacular vistas.
With over 3000 lakes in the area, finding a place to canoe or kayak is no problem with either a short circuit around Lake Mirror in the centre of Lake Placid Village or a more challenging one in the wilderness canoe area. While the lakes offered the only mode of transportation in the early 1800's, today they are a source of infinite recreation and a mecca for canoeists, kayakers and white water rafters. |
