Western Maryland Scenic Railroad - Take a ninety minute ride through the mountains surrounding the town in the historic trains of the Railroad.
Canal Place - This is located at the western terminus of the C&O Canal. It was built to celebrate Cumberland's rich canal and transport heritage. Canal Place offers numerous activities for visitors.
George Washington Cabin - Directly opposite the station stands the small black and white log cabin where in the 1750’s George Washington served his first commission.
Sideling Hill Exhibit Centre - Approximately twenty miles before Cumberland, the road drives through a sedimentary rock, exposing a dramatic Syncline. The best views can be found at the platform at the Exhibit Centre. There you will find a geological exhibits and the on-site geologist who will answer any questions you may have. The views east of the hill from the car park is quite magnificent.
Deep Creek Lake - West of Cumberland is Maryland’s largest freshwater lake. It is a wonderful place for watersport's and has more than 70,000 acres of parks and forests surrounding it. In the winter conditions are perfect for cross-country skiing. |

Carmichael's - 209 North Mechanic Street. This restaurant serves delicious pasta dishes, excellent burgers and more. They are open for lunch and dinner.
When Pigs Fly - 18 Valley Street, Try the American cuisine served here. The emphasis here is on seafood and thick juicy steaks.
13408 McMullen - Highway Southwest. Dine on delicious food such as prime rib, crabcakes, sno-crabs and shrimp, in this elegant restaurant where the service is superb.
City Lights American Grill - 59 Baltimore Street. You can find this restaurant in the downtown historic area. City Lights offers fresh seafood, handcut steaks, pasta, chicken, home made pies and cheesecakes. On Friday evenings during the summer sit outside and enjoy the free Friday After Five concert series.

The Tavern on Centre - 25 North Centre Street This American Tavern has a large selection of drinks on offer and also serves good food.
1819 Brew House - 12801 Ali Ghan Road. Built in 1819 as a tavern along the National Pike, it was hit by a cannonball during the Civil War. It is now a very atmospheric bar to take a break in.
Ed's Canal Pub - 20 South Mechanic Street. - This comfortable pub offers a wide selection of bottled beers, draft Guinness, wines & spirits. If that isn't enough try the daily happy hour, with drink specials from 3 to 6 pm.
Harigan's at Holiday Inn - 100 South George Street. This is a friendly place to chill out in.
Big Claw - Enjoy the fresh crabs and seafood dishes. If you just want a snack, a huge selection of sandwiches is offered at lunchtime.

Railway Trip – Take the kids on a trip round the countryside on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and its 1916 Baldwin Steam Locomotive. A must for any steam train enthusiast, young or old.
Canal boat trip – In the near future the canals are being re-watered so it will be possible to treat the kids, and yourself, to a ride on a canal boat.
