Haleakala Crater - The worlds largest dormant volcano is contained in the Haleakala National Park.The parks floor has a moon like quality about it. There are several decent hikes taking in the craters and forested land.
Lahaina - The old capital of Maui, Lahaina is teeming with tourists in summer,however it’s a interesting town with many attractions including the old courthouse, which is now an art gallery housing works by local artists. Wo Hong Temple, built by the Chinese community and now a Chinese/Hawaiian museum.Hale Pai is the first printing press in Hawaii, started out printing the first bibles in local dialects.
Kaanapali - North of Lahaina, although a modern resort with hotels, golf courses and a shopping center, there is a wealth of local arts and crafts to be found in the hotel lobbys and in the shopping center is a whaling museum worth a trip for the early history of Maui and the many whaling photos.

Tropical gardens of Maui - A mile from Wailuku (free admission, open daily 9am-7pm) This small commercial garden has a large selection of tropical plants from all the islands,there is also a snack bar.
Iao Valley State Park - 3 miles from Wailuku (free admission, open daily 7am-7pm)With the peak of Iao needle in the clouds, there are several scenic walks through volcanic rocks.
