AUGUSTA LOCAL HISTORY
Augusta is the second oldest city in Georgia and was founded in 1736 on the banks of the Savannah River. It served as a local trading post with the Indians and was named after the new bride of the Prince of Wales at the time.

In the late 19th century the town became increasingly popular as a winter retreat and attracted many of the nations wealthiest citizens.
