TAMPA ATTRACTIONS Add your favourite attraction
Gasparilla Festival - This is Tampas most exciting festivel. It is a week long celebration of the pirates that haunted these shores a few centuries ago. January 31st has been celebrated for over a century as the arrival of the legendary pirate ship Jose Gasparilla. There are parades, parties and assorted spectacular events lasting for the week. Blues Festival - St Petersburg brings the sound of the south to its streets with an annual blues festival, usually in April, which attracts big name acts.

Busch Gardens – This is Tampas answer to Disnetyland. It is an African-themed amusement park with some fearsome rides, including an inverted roller coaster called Montu that has a 104ft vertical loop. There is also a 80acre park which is supposed to be an imitation of the Serengeti. Its inhabited by lions, zebras, giraffes, camels and other large mammals.

Lowry Park Zoo - Alligators and bison roam here and numerous breeds of birds fly in an enormous aviary. A number of rare animals live here, including the Florida panther, the Florida manatee and an Indian rhinoceros.

Henry B Plant Museum – This was originally an extremely luxurious hotel that was erected in 1891 by a Florida railroad magnate called Henry B Plant. The rooms were fabulously appointed and the magnificent collection of furniture was collected by Plant during his travels around the world. Unfortunately the hotel failed and was closed down. Subsequently it was taken over by the city and in 1974 was reopened as an historical exhibit.

Joffrey's Coffee House - 1616 7th Avenue, Ybor City. The drinks and snacks in this reasonably priced coffee house are excellent.

Shells - 11010 N 30th Street. Close to Busch Gardens, this is a very popular and relatively cheap seafood restaurant.

Bernini - 1702 7th Avenue, Ybor City. An Italian restaurant that offers up wood-fired pizza and pasta in a lovely old Bank of Ybor City.

CafeCreole - 1330 E 9th Avenue, Ybor City. Try the Creole sampler platters which give you a sample of the main food on the menu.

Cafe Pepe - 2006 W Kennedy Bouleverd. This café has been around for years. The food is Spanish and Cuban and the prices are reasonable.

TAMPA BARS & CLUBS Add your favourite bar & club
Amphitheater - 1609 E 7th Ave, Ybor City. Loads of live music here, featuring everything from retro to techno.

Castle - 2004 16th Street at 9th Avenue. This bar has a gothic inspired decor which is certainly atmospheric

. Irish Pub - 1721 E 7th Ave, Ybor City tel 813/248-2099. Convivial spot for late-night drinking.

Skipper's Smokehouse - 910 Skipper Road. Reggae and Blues music feature in this live music venue.

Masquerade at The Ritz - 1503 E 7th Avenue, Ybor City. If you are feeling energetic this is the place to dance the night away.

TAMPA CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES Add your favourite children's spot
Children's Museum of Tampa – Located next door to the zoo. The museum has loads of interactive displays and a small replica of a downtown area, where kiddies can play at being superheroes and jumo off “tall” buildings.

Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) – This is an extremely educational, and child-friendly science fair, it contains a fabulous array of hands-on exhibits. There is also an IMAX cinema where the images on the screen feel as if they are next to you.

Adventure Island – next door to Busch Gardens. This is a 36acre water park with slide rides, swimming pools and waterfalls.

Florida Aquarium – Channelside Drive.The enormous Florida Aquariums exhibits range from a wetlands replica, complete with resident turtles, to an indoor dune-studded beach and a coral reef located in an enormous tank.
