| The city is described as the chemical capital of the United States. The first permanent settlement was established by Swedes who arrived in 1638 to settle in the Delaware Valley. Today, it is an industrial, financial and shipping hub. |

Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard Museum - Wilmington grew out of the shipping industry and it is only natural that there should be a museum dedicated to that industry. There's much to learn about the history of the town from the museum as well.
Quaker Hill Historic District - The Quakers, the religious society known for their peaceful principles, left their mark in American history as a whole. Wilmington certainly felt their presence as this district was the city's first residential neighbourhood. There are examples of 19th century architecture all over the place and three original Quaker homes still survive. There are guided and self guided tours.
Old Town Hall - The hall itself was built in 1798 and now, several centuries later, the building itself is testimony to how far Wilmington has gone. It is now a museum, located between Market and King Streets, where you can see how the town and its people have worked to reach the point where they are now.
Delaware Art Museum - Art lovers know all about pre-Raphaelites and Winslow Homer paintings which are all here in abundance. The museum is on Kentmere Parkway in the northern part of the city.
Holy Trinity Church and Hendrickson House - Museum - Constructed between 1698 and 1699, it stands at the nation's oldest church building and is still in use for worship. |

Celebrity Kitchens - The Independence Mall Shopping Center is the site of this interactive restaurant where guest chefs cook at your table side. You can help them in if you like and off course, you go home with the recipe. It is both a dinner and a show and everyone usually enjoys themselves. You get complementary wine as well and bookings are essential.
Toscana Kitchen and Bar - This is a contemporary northern Italy bistro that uses hand rolled pasta's and fresh herbs.

Washington Ale Street House - A nice big fireplace is the feature that first captures the eye and indeed, the atmosphere does seem to be warm and charming. There are 20 micro beers on tap and you can eat from sandwiches to inventive cuisine. The decor is sophisticated old time stuff where photographs from the 19th century adorn the walls.
Bulls Eye Saloon - The menu has theme nights where you can, for example, "build your own burger" on one night and on another night you can "eat all you want shrimps or wings." There are DJs and live music in this venue which is located in the Middletown Village Shopping Center on 3734 Kirkwood W Highway.
T.G.I Fridays - The cocktails here are everything imaginable and have fantastic names too like Ultimate Mudslide or Hawaiian Volcano. There is also a "drink of the week" which is on special offer.

| Delaware Seashore State Park - Bounded on the east by the Atlantic and on the west by Rehoboth Bay and Indian River bay, the park is a beach goer's delight. |

Brandywine Park - If you never get to see New York's famous Central Park, then this garden will give you an idea of the concept behind it as it was designed by Frederick Law Omsted who designed the famous Central Park. Look out for the Japanese cherry trees which are particularly lovely in bloom.
Delaware Centre for Horticulture - This perennial garden on 1810 N Du Pont Street has regular classes and workshops for adults. It is a great place to see how waste materials can be turned into useful things. |

My Thai - The soft exquisite things from Thailand like the hand-woven silks has resulted in this shop being featured in many lifestyle magazines in the United States. On 21 A Trolley Square, Gilpin Ave, it also has jewelry, handicrafts, gifts and accessories all directly imported from Thailand.
Concord Mall - This has over 90 stores. Some people have complained that the restaurants are spread out instead of being in one food court but then, you can't please everyone.
Village of Trolley Square - Another of Wilmington's shopping malls but this time in a very vibrant area of town. |

Delaware Toy and Miniature Museum - Children (and adults) will lose themselves in this toy museum that has exhibits from both Europe and America. There are antique and contemporary doll houses and in the way of the real thing, furniture from the 19th and 20th centuries are also on show. The museum is on 6 Old Barley Mill.
Herr's - This company makes a variety of snacks like potato crisps and nachos. You are allowed to tour its factory where visitors can get all the tidbits and technical wizardly that goes into everything. You also get to taste the snacks.
Clementon Amusement Park - It may be an amusement park but it is intended to be educational as well. There is an assortment of big cats like lions and tigers on show. You can also swish and swirl down a water slide.
Brandywine Zoo - On 1001 Northpark Drive, the zoo specialises in animals from North and South America. |
