In 1875, the prospector John Fallon registered the Sheridan Mine just north of present day Telluride. Soon a town sprung up as prospectors flooded in. In the 1890s the railway arrived and the town entered its boom phase. It was here that the famous “Butch Cassidy” started his notorious career as a bank robber.
With the decline of mining, the town turned to “white gold” and enhanced its attraction as a ski resort town. |
