DANVILLE LOCAL HISTORY
First populated by Indians, who lived next to the creeks and camped on Mount Diablo in the summer, Danville was often referred to as the , "Heart of San Ramon Valley." Americans, drawn to the Californian goldrush moved here and in 1854, Daniel and Andrew Inman bought 400 acres with their gold earnings and a small town grew. The Inmans rejected the name of "Inmanville" and settled on Danville, after Andrew's mother-in-law from Danville, Kentucky. By 1862, over 200 people lived here. The prosperity of the Californian gold mines attracted large numbers and the settlers brought with them, cattle and sheep and started farming in the area.

The arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad also bought changes to Danville, as people could travel to and fro more easily. The 20th century with the wars, the depression, Spanish flu and immigration affected Danville and the area became a melting pot of Chinese, Portuguese, Germans and Japanese. Today, this small settlement on the banks has grown into a thriving, beautiful community.
