California Living Museum - 10500 Alfred Harrell Highway, This is a cross between a zoo and museum with lots of educational oppurtunities for both children and adults. This institution promotes respect for plant life, animals and all things to do with the nature of the area. The central location will make it a great outing for the family.
The Kern County Museum - 3801 Chester Avenue, Set in a beautiful park. This is the town's museum depicting life in Bakersfield and Kern County, from when people started settling here to the present day. Special exhibits highlight the oil industry that first attracted many settlers. A good few hours should be spent here.
Centennial Garden - This is the main venue for concerts and there is always something going on here from ice skating to top class shows. There is also a convention centre. Try to catch a show at this world class facility.
Lori Brock's Children's Museum - 3801 Chester Avenue, Located in the same park as the Kern, this lovely museum makes learning fun. Hands on demonstrations of art, history and science.

La Cabana Restaurant - 1219 Golden State Ave, This popular Mexican restaurant is in a central location and serves all the Mexican and local favourites in fine style. They do deliveries and take away and are always busy.
Los Tacos Restaurant - 1400 Wible Road, Because of Bakersfield's location, Mexican food is liked amongst everyone. This upmarket restaurant serves tacos, enchiladas, and burritos. The decor is authentic , service fast and the food is very tasty. So take your taste buds on a trip over the border.
Donna Keys Cafe - Homemade food just like your mum made in this friendly, well known diner. You will not leave hungry with the large portions and Donna opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pop in here for good all round value.
T L Maxwell's Restaurant and Bar - 1421 17th Pl, This is consistently one of the best dining experiences in Bakersfield. The extensive menu includes cuisine from California and over the border. The wine list is also large and Maxwell's always give good value. |

Buck Owens Crystal Palace -2800 Buck Owens Blvd, This is one of the most popular clubs in town, If you are a country music fan, then this is a must. Lots of action at this huge place including a museum, shop and restaurant. Even the non country fans will enjoy a night here.
Smokin' Joes Beach Bar - 2400 Camino Del Rio Court, located in the heart of town in the Red Lion Hotel. Joe has a restaurant and you can just enjoy a drink, catch the game or dance to the latest hits. Joe only smokes when you really make him angry.
Rockin Rodeo - 3745 Rosedale Hwy, One of the hot spots in town with in house DJs playing all the hits, plenty of people rocking on the dance floor. The bar is well stocked and every one has a good night here. |

East Hills Mall - 3000 Mall View Road, A pleasant shopping experience available here. There are the usual downtown stores and many local unique shops and cafes. There is also a first class cinema to enjoy the latest movies as you have a break from shopping.
Pyrenees French Bakery - 717 East 21st Street. Traditional bread making the old fashioned way in this European style bakery. So if you are bored by store bought breads, why not visit and taste bread as she should be made.
