PUNTA BRAVA LOCAL HISTORY
The ancient Maya people consisted of astronomers, mathematicians, agronomists, philosophers, artists, architects, sculptors and warriors. These amazing people built enormous cities, temples and structures before abandoning them to move further inland.

The resort of Punta Brava is approximately 20 years old, having been developed when the Mexican government realised the tourist potential in the area. El Dorado Royale, the only resort at Punta Brava is a spectacular, private, adults only spa.

PUNTA BRAVA ATTRACTIONS Add your favourite attraction
The National Institute of Anthropology and History – Cancun. This fascinating museum traces the Maya culture with a collection of artefacts 1 000 to 1500 years old.

Ruinas Del Rey – Cancun. Otherwise known as the Ruins of the King, they are located in the Caesar Park Beach and golf resort complex.

Tulum - This is the largest coastal limestone city built by the Maya people. The most famous building of the ruins, the Castillo, looms at the edge of a 40 ft. limestone cliff, overhanging the green-blue sea.

PUNTA BRAVA CUISINE
With its abundance of fruit, vegetables, corn, beans, fish and seafood, the cuisine in this area is unforgettable.

PUNTA BRAVA RESTAURANTS
El Dorado Royale - The resort that makes up Punta Brava has a number of fine restaurants within its boundaries. There is something for everyone from Mexican, Italian, Japanese, pool-side to beach places to eat.

La Habichuela – Las Palapas. Spend the evening in this air-conditioned romantic restaurant, set in a lovely garden, with delicious food and tranquil ambience.

Los Huaraches – Tulum. Classic Mexican family cooking will have you munching on dishes such as deep fried corn meal breaded chicken breasts stuffed with cheese and spinach, stuffed tacos and the like, at very reasonable prices.

PUNTA BRAVA BARS & CLUBS
Hard Rock Cafe – Rafael Melgar - For a loud and raucous night enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Babalu II - Owned by an exotic lady from Barbados this tiny place offers mellow jazz until the early hours of the morning. It is popular with the ‘cool’ locals who are all very friendly to the visitors.

Coco Bongo – Cozumol. This place is rumoured to be one of the hottest nightspots around.

PUNTA BRAVA BEACHES
Playa Tortugas - This long sandy, white beach offers calm, warm waters in which to swim and enjoy yourself. Just be careful of the strong currents.

Parque Nizuc - Probably one of the best beaches in the area from which to snorkel.

Castillo Real - A walk north along the beach will bring you to the Castillo Real Maya site.

PUNTA BRAVA PARKS & GARDENS
Parque Punta Sur - This 247 acre preserve located south of Cozumol is home to numerous birds and animals. To get around one has to use the park transport which is fine, as they know where they’re going, leaving you time to take in the scenery.

El Dorado Royale - This amazing resort is situated in 450 acres of tropical jungle.

PUNTA BRAVA SHOPPING
Dany Primus – 5th Ave. – With original clothes, artefacts from Indonesia, a juice bar in the garden, this shop is well worth the visit.

Montezuma – This fascinating shop has everything from beach bags and sandals to sarongs and towels, souvenirs to Mexican traditional vanilla.

PUNTA BRAVA CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES
Xel-Ha – this park, with its natural aquarium and four interlocking lagoons will fascinate you and the children. The Aquatic Institute offers snorkelling lessons with the emphasis on the identification of underwater flora and fauna.

Chen Park – Both parents and children will enjoy this fascinating park in the jungle, which is home to deer, monkeys, birds and much more.
