Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre – This is a great museum which helps you understand better the different cultures of the natives in the Northwest. (Yellowknife)
Mackenzie Bison Sanctuary – The sanctuary holds the world’s largest herd of free range wood bison, which can often be seen close to the road side. (Fort Providence)
Virginia Falls – In the Nahanni National Park Reserve you’ll find this incredible waterfall which, at 96m high, is about twice the height of Niagara Falls. |

| Most visitors choose to travel the Northwest Territories in the summer months, with July and August being the busiest. In winter the temperature just drops to low and this make sight seeing and travel very unpleasant and sometimes impossible. |
|
| It is possible to move around by car in the Northwest but it is very difficult and once off the one or two main stretches of road there is only gravel and snow. In winter don’t even bother trying to get off the main roads. In the more northern sections of the Northwest the only way around is by plane. The best thing is to set up base in Yellowknife and use the chartered tours from there. |

Festival of the Midnight Sun – A week long celebration, in July, of northern art and culture under a sun that doesn’t set. (Yellowknife)
Folk on the Rocks – This event is held just a couple of day after the Midnight Sun Festival and features Dene drummers, dancers, Inuit throat singers and other musicians. (Yellowknife)
Caribou Carnival – With the coming of spring, in March, the locals set off fireworks, play games, and hold contests for 3 days. (Yellowknife) |
