| ST. ANDREWS LOCAL HISTORY |
|
| St Andrew's claim to fame is that the oldest Scottish university is situated here. For years it used to be a fishing port, but now it is a golfing hub and even home to the British Open on a regular basis. |
|
British Golf Museum - Bruce Embankment. The ancient origins of golf is on display at the museum. It is widely believed that golf originated in Scotland during the 14th and 15th Centuries.
St. Andrews Castle - North Castle Street. Although the castle is a bit dilapidated, you can still explore the (now not so) secret tunnels and dungeons of the bishop’s residence dating from the 12th Century.
St. Andrews Museum - Kinburn Park. This museum offers the “other side of the coin” to the golfing hype of St. Andrews by actually pointing out the town’s historical heritage. |
|
The North Point Cafe - North Street. This quaint cafe serves you tea in bone china and gingerbread as an alternative to a light lunch. You also have quite a nice view of the castle ruins.
B. Jannetta - 31 South Street. If ice cream is what you’re after, you will definitely find it here. They have 52 flavours on their menu and is open all-year round.
Brambles - 5 College Street. Besides for a great vegetarian selection of food you will also find old favourites, like home-made scones here. |
|
Lizard Lounge - 127 North Street. If you’re hunting bargains, then be here between 20:30 and 21:30 for great drink specials. The atmosphere is also quite pleasant.
The Central - corner of Market and College Street. Although its main market is the local students it is a nice place to just hang out.
The Victoria - 1 St Mary’s Plain. Once in a while they have a live band at this pub, that has elements of a Scottish pub and a Western Saloon. |
|
| Tentsmuir Point Nature Reserve - Fife. The forest park also has a 10-mile long beach. |
