YORK ATTRACTIONS Add your favourite attraction
The Minster Church – This historic church had its beginnings in 670 AD and has undergone change, burning, and rebuilding, until in 1075 it was completely destroyed in the Danish invasion. Rebuilt and ravaged by time, fire, and man York Minster is still undergoing repair, but nothing can take away from its magnificent architectural heritage and rich history.

Barley Hall – experience life in a 15th century house in the hands-on living museum of Barley Hall. Costumed guides escort groups through the hall encouraging them to explore and touch the exhibits, sit on the chairs, peak into cupboards and chests, or you can hire audio tapes and tour on your own. Special period events are put on over summer weekends and visitors can watch mystery plays or take part in medieval markets.

The Shambles – Mentioned in the Domesday Book and proving the existence of this maze of narrow, twisting streets for the past nine hundred years, The Shambles is Europe’s best-preserved piece of living medieval history. Today the butchers shops for which the street was named, ‘Shambles’ deriving from the Saxon word "Fleshammels", meaning the street of butchers, no longer have slabs of meat on their window sills, but instead are chi-chi little boutiques selling antiques and jewellery.

YORK BARS & CLUBS Add your favourite bar & club
The Blue Bell – 53 Fossgate, this might be the smallest pub in York, but it is one of the warmest and most welcoming in the city. Still retaining its exquisite Edwardian decor of rich polished panelling, it is a pleasant escape from the harshness of modern times and is a good place to savour agreeable company and excellent beer.

Golden Slipper - 20 Goodramgate, this free house in the heart of York has the ambience of a traditional village pub, and is a favourite with the locals. Serving hot meals and snacks, it is perfect for dropping in for a bite to eat or to lift a glass or two after visiting the magnificent York Minster just a minute away.

Ye Old Starre – 40 Stonegate, once in the ancient city of York it would be a crime to miss popping into a pub that has served the people since 1644 and has a licence to prove it. Take a drink in a place where the licence is three hundred and sixty years old, you have to know they have the hang of things by now.

YORK PARKS & GARDENS Add your favourite park & garden
Dean’s Park – for the perfect place to unwind in the fresh air, this quiet park behind the Minster lends itself to hours of contemplation and relaxation, and provides views of the beautiful church and other wonders of architecture.

Duncombe Park – thirty-five acres of landscaped gardens surround the home of Lord and Lady Feversham, which has been restored to the glorious masterpiece it was when it was built in 1713.

Park Clarence Gardens – this is a great place for whole family, with a bowling green for Dad, magnificent landscaped garden with shady trees for Mum, and separate children’s playground for the little ones.

YORK SHOPPING Add your favourite attraction
York is the place to get those gorgeous, delicate, and extremely valuable collectors items when it comes to bone china and crystal. With names like Waterford, Lalique, Wedgewood and Spode on the shelves, Mulberry Hall, a large 15th century house in Stonegate, is justly proud of its stock.

Also in Stonegate is Blackwell’s with its stock of new books, or if you want to pick up some good second-hand titles take a look at Minster Gate Bookshop or snuffle around the Shambles for some excellent selections. If your fancy lies more in finding some souvenirs or gifts for the family back home, take the time to investigate the markets and craft shops in the surrounding districts.
