The Museum of Science and Industry - Located in part in the oldest passenger railway station in the world, this immense museum covering seven and a half acres is made up of five historic buildings all crammed with exhibitions and displays, working machinery from the ages, and hands-on galleries where visitors can get down to it.
Manchester Town Hall - Designed by Alfred Waterhouse and opened in 1877, the Manchester Town Hall is a magnificent Victorian Gothic style building, and among the displays are the Ford Maddox Brown murals depicting Victorian Manchester science, trade, textile, and education of the day.
Manchester Cathedral - Not only can visitors enjoy a service and the fine choral music of the cathedral, but also stand before an entire wall of stained glass by the twentieth century artist Anthony Holloway, as well as see examples of some of Europe’s finest medieval carving. The new visitor Centre on Cateaton Street is next door to the cathedral, and has a hi-tech, interactive exhibition on the church and its connection to the community and world at large. The Visitor Centre also houses a shop and a licensed restaurant, winner of the Manchester Citylife Coffee Bar of the Year Award in 2002.
The Royal Exchange - The historic building of The Royal Exchange has been at the heart of the cotton trade worldwide for decades, and today it houses antique gallery, fashion and specialist boutiques, gift shops and restaurants under its roof. Debenhams – 123, Market Street, This family restaurant offers a traditional menu with a special VIP baby service, and good value for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea.
The Drawing Room Restaurant – 254 Moston Lane, Come in from the cold to enjoy the fire, and the pleasure of an exciting and international menu.
The Market restaurant – 104 High Street, this small, friendly restaurant uses only fresh ingredients in its dishes and so the menu changes, as do the seasons. The AA/Good Food Guide has recommended it.

The Old Wellington Inn and Restaurant - dating back to 1552 this is Manchester’s oldest pub. It has two levels with the 1st floor reserved for the non-smokers, and the 2nd for smokers.
Britons Protection Hotel – 50 Great Bridgewater Street, step back in time at this well-preserved Edwardian hostelry that has a beer garden, and a good-sized function room.
Bulls Head Pub – 84 London Road, located opposite the Piccadilly Railway Station, traditional hand-pulled beers, pub-grub of the highest order, and friendly service make this “your local in the heart of the city”.
Springbok Bar – The Circus, Oxford Street, grab a beer and some snacks then settle down to watch the best sport on TV for a night out South African style in Manchester. |

Boggart Hole Clough – Located at Rochdale Road, Blackley, there are a number of leisure facilities available on the 190 acres of the clough, including tennis courts, basketball, fishing, boating, to name just a few.
Brookdale Park – Droylsden Road, Newton Heath, there is a children’s play area located here, as well as the Beehive Club, woodland area to explore, football pitches, bowls and Veterans Pavilion. The area is also home to a variety of bird life, with some of the less common species represented in the park.
Crumpsall Park– Ash Tree Road, opened in the 1890’s Crumpsall Park is one of the older parks in Manchester and offers an eleven acres green refuge from the city grime and rumble, with a children’s playground, cycle circuit, and areas for other sports or leisure. A wildflower patch has been planted recently, and a new sensory garden has been made around the obelisk.
Alexandra Park – Alexandra Road South/Claremont Street, the sixty acres that make up Alexandra Park have a fishing lake, nature trail, children’s play centre, tennis courts, football pitch and much for the leisure seeker. This delightful Victorian park was designed by Alex Hennell, and has been around for over a hundred years, since it was originally opened on 6th August 1870. |
