Bristol Cathedral – For the past thousand years or more a church has stood on the site of the awe-inspiring and beautiful Bristol Cathedral, and the Chapter House and Abbey Gatehouse stand today in perfect preservation as they were when built in 1140.
Cheddar Caves & Gorge – Nature’s own subterranean cathedral at Cheddar, is a work of indescribable beauty and awesome proportion. Carved by a million year old ice bed, and inhabited by man 40,000 years ago, the caves and gorge still attract people to gaze in wonder at the power of a force so great.
The Georgian House – This example of Bristol’s 18th century heritage gives a fascinating insight to the daily lives of the gentry and their servants, and how the city benefited from being a premier trading port of the day. Costumed guides lead visitors around the house showing the four stories open to the public, from the downstairs kitchen and basement to the upper levels all are furnished and equipped in authentic pieces from the era.
Kings Weston Roman Villa – During the construction of the Kings Weston housing estate in 1947 excavations revealed an abandoned Roman Villa, which was probably built in the 3rd century AD. Although the walls are little higher than the foundations now, there are some stunning examples of mosaics and the details can be clearly seen in Room VII. |
