SIDE LOCAL HISTORY
The town was founded by Aeolians of the Aegean region and its history extends back to 7C BC. In the two centuries following Alexander the Great, it was dominated by the Seleucids from Syria and the Ptolemy from Egypt.

The most extraordinary of the structures to be seen in the town had been constructed during 2C BC and 3C BC. By 10C BC the site was left abandoned, due to earthquakes, Christian zealots and Arab raids. The last settlement in Side was in 1895 when Turkish immigrants from Crete settled in the town. This settlement act as the nucleus of the present town.

Boat trips - There are many one-day boat tours available, the most popular as well as most rewarding one being the glass-bottomed boat Aqua Alkim. As the discription states it is glass-bottomed, which allows you to see everything in the ocean below you. A wonderful experience awaits you should you decide try it out.

SIDE RESTAURANTS Add your favourite restaurant
Liman Restaurant - Located in the Harbour, it features a menu consisting of delicious fresh fish and an awesome view of the harbour area.

Aphrodite Restaurant - A stunning restaurant located on the square next to the waterfront. It has a lovely atmosphere and serves wonderful fish dishes, as well as some very tasty meat dishes. If you visit the restaurant remember to try their specialty kuzu baligi (mutton fish), which tastes like swordfish.

Aqua restaurant - by Ruth Rogers from United Kingdom - 2006-08-24
Try the Aqua Restaurant - just before you get into the bustle of the main town (on the way to the ampitheatre). Extremely friendly, lovely, decent people - ask for Yilmaz and Osman (aka Pespi) - great people - made our holiday!

Sultans - by Eileen from United Kingdom - 2006-11-24
On the main road to Manavgat at the back of the sunday market excellent food, good prices. One of the owners is English. Ihan and Mehmet will do anything they can to make you feel at home.

Anatolia - by Jane from United Kingdom - 2007-06-20
This restaurant is awful. Owned by an English woman who treats her staff like they are low life, it would not be allowed in the UK, I felt embarrassed to be English. Bad food and would be good service if it was left to the Turkish. DONT GO THERE

Etiket and Robinsons Bar - by Halieell from Laos - 2007-06-21
These two eating places are just outside Side near Kumkoy, they are fantastic, great service and food second to none. You will find them most competative and very Turkish.

SIDE BARS & CLUBS Add your favourite bar & club
Baracuda Cafe & Bar - Located on the beach front, this is a very well known bar featuring a perfect party atmosphere. It is the ideal place to let your hair down and do it all night long…

Mehmet's Bar - by Ali from United Kingdom - 2006-05-23
Overlooking the main town beach, this cafe / bar is a relaxing place to unwind. It catches the sea breezes and the service is excellent from a family run establishment. Basic food and drink but that's all you need on holiday.

Linda Bar and Golden Fizz bar - by Linda from United Kingdom - 2007-04-07
Both great dance bars they do not get going untill about 11pm but I could not chose between the two, your well looked after, drinks are good price. They are both next to each other in Kumkoy just past the oxcy disco. You have to give them a try

Linda Bar - by Catherine from United Kingdom - 2007-05-29
Savas is wonderful and really gets you moving. Hands off, he's mine!!

SIDE BEACHES Add your favourite beach
Beautiful long wide golden beaches extend for kilometers, dipping gently down into the shallow sea, with very calm waters it makes it a suitable place for children to enjoy themselves.

Coastguard stations are positioned along the beach, making it a very safe beach to visit. It offers a wonderful opportunity to either lay on the beach and soak up the sun or alternatively enjoy any of the watersports that are available.

SIDE SHOPPING Add your favourite attraction
In the old town, the mini market is open all hours for shopping for carpets, jewellery, leather, brassware and all kinds of trinkets. Browsing is near impossible due to the constant hard-selling techniques of the hawkers. Also available at the market is fresh food and drinks. Expect to find a few stalls selling traditional Turkish sovenirs.
