Ankara Citadel - This is the city Castle and you will get to it along Hisar Parki Cad. It is like a small village with it's small winding streets, quaint wood beamed houses (Some housing restaurants) There is an inner and outer wall and this is the historic area in the city..
The Roman Baths - Cankiri Ave. This is a huge complex of three seperate sections built in honour of the medicine god, Asklepios, in conjunction with the modern gods 'Doctors'. All three areas were kept at a different temperature and its an interesting tour they give..
Museum of Anatolian Civilizations - Right by the Citadel and the best collection of ancient artifacts in the country. Plenty to see and learn here. A good half day should bring you out with a reasonable knowledge of Ankara's history..
Ataturk Mausoleum - Akdeniz Cad. The museum to honour the founder of Turkey. Built on a hill overlooking the city in 1944. This sometimes over the top showing is subject to pilgramages by loyal Turks. Don't miss this tribute to the man himself. |

Bogazici Lokantasi - Denizciler Cad. 1/A. Don't bother if you haven't got a large moustache or you might stick out as a tourist. Great food and prices and not full of tourists, so with no moustache you are bound to meet some friendly locals.
Hisar Kule Restaurant - Doyran Sok. 3. One of those great restaurants in the grounds of the Citadal. The garden enjoys fine views of the city, and the bell tower to the castle. To eat here on a warm evening is the ultimate in romance. The good food is just incidental. |

Cikrikcilar Yokusu - Located near Ulus, this is not a haven for tourists and you are less likely to be hassled here. But you are still welcome to haggle with the owners over the traditional clothes and linens.
Bakircilar Carsisi - This is at the end of Cikrikcilar Yokusu and is more popular with visitors and as such they can't mistake the tourist. (The ones clean shaven) Great place to buy the gift for someone at home and try for best price. Just walk away if you are getting nowhere in negotiations. 9 times out of 10 you will be called back.
Gima - The department store in Kizilay. Basic goods at basic prices. You could come across a bargain or two here. It's a good halfway point while crossing the intersection between Gazi Kemal Bulvari and Ataturk Bulvari.
Ankara Hali - A permanent market up Hisarparki Caddesi towards the Citadel. Farmers come here with their produce. You can buy Fruit, vegetables, local cheeses, fresh fish and cuts of meat from the many butchers. Make up a picnic and sit in the park. |
