Ankara - This is the capital of Turkey and is completely covered in Roman ruins amongst the mosques and monuments of Muslim Anatolia. You can also take a look at the Presidential Mansion, which features furniture and decor dating back to the 1930's.
Ephesus - This is the grandest and best preserved of the vast selection of ruins found in Turkey. It is world renowned due to its extraordinary heritage of history and culture and the breath taking beauty and charm of the archaeological site. It is also the most enchanting classical city in the Mediterranean. Counted amongst one of the Seven Wonders of the world, is the Ionia's Temple of Diana. The city of Ephesus is renowned for its richness of unspoilt beauty and wealth.
Istanbul - The skyline is sprawling with domes and minarets and is known as one of the truly great romantic cities, the heartbeat of Turkey. A wonderful place to visit for a dose of history is the Istanbul Archeology Museum which consists of three smaller museums namely, The Archeology Museum, Old Eastern Works Museum and Enameled Kiosk Museum. It was established as The Empire Museum by the famous artist and museum director Osman Hamdi Bey in the 19th century and was opened to the public on June 13, 1891. |

| The best time to visit Turkey would be in Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November), as the climate is the best at that time in the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts and Istanbul. Eastern Turkey should be avoided in the winter months as snow may cause the roads and mountain passes to close. |

Valley of the Fairy Chimneys - Cappadocia, a collection of rosy rock volcanic cones. They are topped with flat, dark stones consisting of harder rock. It is riddled with tunnels and windows, and visible for kilometers around.
Side - A extraordinary long wide golden beaches, which extends for kilometers, dipping gently down into the shallow sea, featuring very calm waters. There are coastguard stations positioned along the beach, making it a very safe beach to visit. It offers the perfect opportunity to either lay on the beach and soak up the sun or alternatively enjoy any of the water sports that are available. |
| Mt Ararat - by Onur Kocatas from United States - 2005-09-02 | | The highest mountain of Turkey, legendary Mt Ararat, is one of the best-known of all mountains because of its biblical attribution as the final resting place of Noah's Ark (as related in Genesis 8:4). A huge inactive volcano towering above the arid steppe of Eastern Turkey connects the borders of Armenia, Iran and Turkey. From the summit an over view of the cradle of ancient civilizations can be seen, high above the cloud line, it is simply stunning. |
| Lycian Way - by Onur Kocatas from United States - 2005-09-02 | | South of the majestic Taurus Mountains lies the shores of the Mediterranean Sea with its beaches of fine sand, scenes of rare and rugged beauty, many ancient ruins, hidden coves and alluring vacation getaways. The region is bathed in sunshine 300 days a year, and is a paradise for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. From unspoilt and sheltered bays of the turquoise coast you can see mountain peaks rising to almost 3000 meters above sea level. The Lycian Turquoise Coast trek passes through several areas where you can relax, swim, enjoy the beaches and experience the beauty of the ancient cities. The sailing paradise of Turkey is also home to the Blue Voyage, an idyllic cruise which travels to the private beach of Cleopatra, the eternal fires of Mount Olympos and the remains of thousands of ancient civilizations. |

Turkish airlines links all the major cities, including the Istanbul-Ankara corridor. There are buses that travel frequently to all areas in Turkey at reasonably cheap prices. A good value for money are the sleeping-car trains which link Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara to each other.
If you prefer driving around in Turkey, you will be happy to know that mechanical services are easy to find and are reasonably cheap. You should however avoid driving in cities altogether as traffic is horrible and finding parking is an absolutely impossible task.
Car ferries are available and will save you many days of needless traveling and a perfect opportunity to take a mini-cruise along the Turkish coast. Ferries operate from Istanbul to Izmir, also from Istanbul to Trabzon in June to September only and from Istanbul to Yalova, for Bursa. |

Muslim religious holidays are celebrated according to the lunar calendar and the only two holidays which are public holidays are Seker Bayrami which is a three day festival ending the Ramazan, during December and January and Kurban Bayrami which takes place in March - Aril. It commemorates Abraham's near-sacrifice of Ismael on Mount Moriah.
Secular Festivals include camel-wrestling which is held in the town of Selcuk in mid-January and National Sovereignty Day, held on April 23, which is a big holiday celebrating the first meeting of the Republican parliament in 1920. The International Istanbul Festival of the Arts is held in late June to mid-July and Bursa's Folklore and Music Festival is held in mid-July. Diyarbakir's Watermelon Festival is held in mid or late September.
The entire country comes to a stand still for a moment, on the 10th November at 9.05 am in memory of the death of Ataturk in 1938. |
