Bern Historical Museum - Helvetiaplatz 5. The museum is housed in a 16th century Swiss neo-Gothic castle. It contains historical relics; archaeological, ethnographic, and numismatic collections. The museum's top attraction is a series of 15th century tapestries.
Cathedral of St. Vincent - Muensterplatz. THe cathedral is one of the top sightseeing attractions in Bern and should not be missed when in town for the first time. The cathedral dates back to 1421, but the belfry was only completed in 1893. Its most impressive feature is the tympanum over the main portal, which portrays the Last Judgment and has over 200 figures.
Fine Arts Museum - Hodlerstrasse 12. This museum is another must see when in Bern. It houses the world's largest collection of works by Paul Klee, who was born in Switzerland in 1879. The collction of his works include 40 oil paintings; 2,000 drawings; and watercolours. |

Gaumentranz - Gerechtigkeitsgasse 56. This hip new restaurant is very popular with locals and tourists alike. They serve a wide range of Swiss and Continental dishes, including shrimp with lemongrass, strips of asparagus, and raspberry vinaigrette;and pink chicken breast served with salsa verde, galettes of black rice, and spring vegetables.
Wein & Sein - Muenstergasse 50. This is one of the most fashionable restaurants in Bern, and is popular with the arty locals and tourists. They serve a wide range of Austrian; German; and Swiss dishes, and is a great place to go to sample some of the best food in town. The prices are a little above average, but the dining experience is well worth the extra money.
Goldener Schluessel - Rathausgasse 72. This traditional Swiss restaurant is very popular with locals and tourists alike. They serve a wide range of Austrian; German; and Swiss dishes, including mignon d'agneau au poivre vert; schweinbratwurst mit zwiebelsauce; and roesti. |

Samurai Club - Aarbergergasse 35. This is the most popular gay club in Bern, and is frequented by a younger crowd of locals, women are also welcome. This is a great place to go if you want party all night long and meet some of the locals.
Marians Jazzroom - Engerstrasse 54. This is a great place to go if you're looking for a slightly more relaxed night out. The Jazzroom is very popular with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists who share a love for jazz music. The club features live performances from top jazz musicians from around the world on a regular basis.
Kloetzlikeller - 62 Gerechtigkeitsgasse. This is the oldest wine bar in Bern and is very popular with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists. This is a great place to go and expreince Switzerland at its best, while meeting some new people. Here you can sit back and sample some of the best wines in Europe. |
