Castle de la Zuda - This Arabian castle dates back to the Moorish Occupation, a period stretching from 711 - 1492. The Christian era commenced thereafter, with King Jaime I rebuilding the palace in the 13th century. The chapel was built during the time of Pedro the Ceremonious but was partially destroyed during the War of Independence. The castle has three large towers and of interest inside are ogive vaults, decorated with Mudejar designs.
Cadi-Moixero Nature Reserve - Explore the natural beauty of Northern Spain; centuries old forests and sweeping valleys in an Alpine setting. The Nature Reserve dips into the provinces of Gerona, Lleida and Barcelona and encompasses forests of oak, beech and pinetrees lining rugged mountainsides and valleys. You may come across the shy red deer or roe deer a-roaming or even a chamois or two leaping from rock to rock- animals more commonly seen in Northern Europe.
Cathedral Vieja de Lleida - The cathedral of Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion was built on the highest point of Puig del Castell between the 13th and 15th centuries in dedication to Saint Mary. Interestingly enough, it stands on the site of an old mosque dated 1203.The building reflects the typical Romanesque style with a touch of Gothic influence- as do most of the old churches in Spain. |
