COSTA DORADA LOCAL HISTORY
Tarragona - Once a provincial Roman capital because of its strategic position, today Tarragona is Spain's second most important port city, proving once again that location, location, location, is everything. Still visible are remnants of its imperial days under the rule of Augustus in the ruins of a great amphitheatre and other Roman buildings in the gardens above El Mirade beach.

COSTA DORADA ATTRACTIONS Add your favourite attraction
Roman Ruins - The Amfiteatre Roma, scene of the barbarity and cruelty of man, where men were pit against wild animals or each other to fight to the death, can be seen in the gardens above the El Mirade beach. Countless other ruins stand in silent testimony to a great and glorious past while modern 21st century life charges past in all its hurry and flurry.

The Museu Nacional Arqueologic - For a glimpse into the daily life of a people long gone, have a look at the ancient utensils displayed in this museum, along with statues and beautiful mosaics from the past. To learn about death in those days, check out the Museu i Necropolis Paleocristians on the edge of town, where a huge Christian burial site has given up a fascinating number of sarcophagi, tombs and other items relating to burial.

Pont Del Diable - The Devil's Bridge bears testimony to the engineering skills of the Romans and is a well-preserved aqueduct that has lasted a lot longer that many of the constructions built by modern man probably will.

Cathedral - The glass in the massive octagonal rose window of this Romanesque-Gothic church dates back to the 14th century, and the tomb of Joan d'Arago lies inside the ancient church.

COSTA DORADA CUISINE Add your favourite dish
Worth trying, is Tarragona's romesco sauce, a heavenly combination of simmered red peppers, hazelnuts, and toasted almonds.

COSTA DORADA RESTAURANTS Add your favourite restaurant
La Teula - C. Mercena, 16. Located in the old city, this place is great for a snack on the run, and serves toasted sandwiches and salads, as well as other dishes.

Restaurant El Caseron - Trinquet Nou, 4. For great food with that home cooked flavour, you cannot do better than a meal at this place.

COSTA DORADA BARS & CLUBS Add your favourite bar & club
Nightlife in Tarragona begins around 9pm, when the bars start buzzing along Ramblas Nova and Vella, with the most popular Puerto de Postive doing the most business. The Pau de Protectorat is also filled with bars and people readying themselves for late night revelry. After 2am when the bars close Port Sportier starts pumping when the overflow from the pubs gather in the discotecas for some serious bumping and boogying

COSTA DORADA BEACHES Add your favourite beach
The main beach of Tarragona is on Baixada de Miracle off Pl Arce Ochotorena, beyond the Roman theatre. There are two other larger beaches, the Llarga, and the l'Arrabassada a bit further away.
