| COSTA BLANCA LOCAL HISTORY |
|
| The fine, white sand of the beaches of Costa Blanca are from where its name came, but there is more to this quiet region than just beautiful beaches. The inland terrain with high craggy mountain peaks, rolling hills covered in cherry blossom and deep lagoons is a paradise for hikers, while the densely populated coastal town provides accommodation and nightlife.

Altea - Sitting at the top of a low hill, Altea is a pleasant place where the pace is not as frenetic as nearby Alicante, and makes for a peaceful retreat from the anxious milling crowd of tourists who have to see every sight possible on their two week pass. Narrow cobblestone streets lead up to the Plaza de la Iglesia, where the church of the Virgen del Consuelo stands, and from where the view of the sea is a stunning turquoise dream.
Calpe - Nestled at the foot of the gigantic flat-topped rock of Peno d'lfach, this little town is about sixty kilometres from Alicante |
| Las Fallas at Denia - by Matthew Samuel from United Kingdom - 2008-02-10 | | Las Fallas is a unique, fabulous fista. Huge efigies are built out of paper mache, wood and wax each telling a different story. On 19th March there are bonfires and fireworks which go on till the early hours of the next morning. The Fallas Fiesta will be brilliant this year as the Easter parades will continue on through making it a supurb Easter vaccation time. |

La Plaza - Calpe (Old Town) This small, intimate restaurant serves Swiss/French cuisine, and has a warm ambience with the immaculate chef paying as much attention to his guests as he does to the preparation of his dishes.
Taberna Antigua - Calpe (Old Town) For German home cooking at its finest, pay a visit to this restaurant in the old town of Calpe, where you dine in an intimate cellar, and are served with gracious German courtesy.
San Marco - Calpe - Moraira coastal road. Authentic Italian cuisine with Mama's touch is served in this excellent Italian restaurant. It has a beautiful courtyard where one can dine in summer, and on frequent occasions, guests are treated to live piano music.

| Do Not eat here - by Marie from France - 2005-10-05 | | There's a small, local restaurant in Venta Lenuza (between Alicante and Benidorm)named The Jetset Restaurant. The food is average but the service and owners make the entire experience miserable. One young man in particular who works the afternoon shift is especially rude; he would not speak to us at all. Unfortunately, this was the only restaurant in this little town and we were stuck eating there because we arrived late one weekend.

| Al Gusto, Calle Colon, Denia - by Matthew Samuel from United Kingdom - 2008-02-10 | | Excellent cuisine at Al Gusto's where you can chose menu del dia for a 3 course meal with wine for 10 euros. Denia has and excellent array of restaurants with over 300 to choose from giving fantastic choice and value. |
| El Mono Loco Lounge Bar and Restaurant - by Mike from Spain - 2008-03-28 | | El Mono Loco offers a unique eating experience on one of its six specially-designed barbeque tables in our bright and spacious conservatory. Order prepared meat and/or fish from the barbeque menu and then relax whilst cooking your own lunch or dinner with your friends or family. It’s a great social experience for all.

Calpe's two main beaches are divided by the spectacular Rock of Ifach, which has come to be the symbol of the Costa Blanca. The rock soars 322 metres into the sky and is a nature reserve.
On either side are the fishing port and beaches, where scuba diving and sailing are favourite pastimes. The sheltered location of Javea provides quiet waters and serene beaches, one of which is a 'clothes optional' beach, the Playa de Ambolo.

Parque Municipal - The municipal park in Elche is filled with palms and subtropical flora, doves drink from the lovely fountains built in the fashion of the Arabic style. Here you can rest in the shade of the trees and let life go by for a while, as you catch your breath and give you feet a well-earned rest.
Hort del Cura - The Orchard of the Priest in Elche is one of the most beautiful parks of the Costa Blanco, with tall spreading trees offering shade to the brilliant colours of the flowerbeds beneath their boughs.
Montgo Natural Park - This natural park in Denia is a challenging climb for hikers, and has a network of trails running through it from the easy stroll in the park type to the "I' ll show you, you damn rock!' type.
