BURGOS ATTRACTIONS Add your favourite attraction
Burgos Cathedral - The Cathedral was started in 1221 and completed in 1731.There are 13 chapels, the most ornate being the hexagonal Condestable Chapel. The tomb of one of Spain’s greatest heroes, El Cid, and his wife, Ximena, are to be found under the transept..

The Casa del Cordo – Place de Calvo Sotel This is a 15th-century palace where the Roman Catholic Monarchs received Columbus on his return from his second trip to the New World. The building is now a bank. .

Cartuja de Miraflores – This is a Gothic charter house with an Isabelline church. The altarpiece is reputed to be gilded with the first gold to be brought back from the New World..

Monasterio de Las Huelgas Reales – Founded in 1187 by King Alfonso VIII and now a convent, this building is to be found on the western edge of the town, The convent has a royal mausoleum but all but one of the royal coffins were violated by Napoleon's soldiers. The one coffin that was left intact contained garments that are now the important exhibits in the convent's textile museum.

Burgos is well known for its wide selection of cheeses. One of the best is known simply as Queso de Burgos (Burgos cheese),and is a fresh, ricotta-like cheese. .

The local Ribera de Duero tinto (red) wines now rival those of Rioja-Alta. Suckling lamb meat, suckling pig, blood-sausages, and traditional cooking such as casserole dishes are extremely popular in the area.

Meson Del Cid – Place Santa Maria 8. The building that houses the restaurant was at one time a 15th-century printing press. It is now a hotel and restaurant that have been operating for four generations. The dining rooms have old beams and lovely views of the cathedral. The menu concentrates on authentic Borgalise food and is highly recommended.

Puerto Bugos - Vitoria 69. The restaurant in this smart hotel offers an international menu plus a range of local dishes.

Casa Ojeda - Vitoria 5 This very popular restaurant is well known for its excellent versions of local Burgos classics, the roast lamb is particularly recommended.

Don Jamon - San Pablo, 2 09003. There is a spacious, attractive bar which is to be found near the cathedral. If you decide to eat in the restaurant you will be enjoying the company of the many locals who frequent the this place.

Paseo del Espolon 32 – The bar at this hotel is comfortable and the service is efficient and friendly.

Puerto Bugos - Vitoria 69. The bar in this smart hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and friendly service.
