16th Century Moorish Castle – Castillo de San Miguel. The impressive remains of the old Arab castle dominate the city skyline. Originally built by the Romans in approximately 1st century BC, it was the Moors who changed the castle into an impressive fortress. The castle contains an interesting museum and offers lovely views of the town and beach.
Roman Aqueduct - the Romans built an aqueduct 7 kms long, a lot of which is still standing. Recent finds indicate that this water channel fed a number of hot baths, which are undergoing excavation. Approximately 40 minutes from the town centre is lovely little bridge of Roman origin which was excavated recently and which is well worth a visit.
Archaeological Museum –Near to the castle is the small Archaeological Museum, which is located in what used to be the cellars of a Roman building, now known as the Cave of the Seven Palaces. The exhibits include a fabulous 3500-year-old Egyptian vase.
