Paque Aquatico Vera – Vera, Almeria. This is a large water park with many attractions for kids of all ages.
Alcazaba –. Almeria was once a thriving Moorish capital and this magnificent Arab fortress was built in the 10th century. It has three enormous walled enclosures, and in the second of these remain the ruins of a mosque later converted to a chapel by the Roman Catholic Kings.
Almeria Cathedral - This is, unusually, a fortified cathedral, which was built in the 1500´s when pirates terrorized this part of the coastline.
The Almeria Museum – This fascinating museum contains numerous items discovered by the famous Belgian mining engineer, Louis Siret. The collections include exhibits from Phoenician, Greek and Arab civilizations.
Cueva de los Letreros - 3km out of the town of Velez Rubio. The prehistoric cave paintings here are spectacular, they include sketches of human figures, animals, birds, etc which are amongst the oldest representations of animals and people in the world. This is a UNESCO World heritage site as La Cueva del Gabar, to the north of Velez Blanco.

| Local specialities include Gurullos (stew with pasta), Trigo (stew with grains of wheat, pork, herbs and beans) and Escabeche e Sardines (fresh sardines in hot sauce).

Restaurant Alfareros - Calle Marcos 6. This restaurant provides excellent three course lunch and dinner menus, wine is included and a choice of meat and fish.
Marisqueria El Alcaza - Paseo de Almeria. The generous portions of fish and seafood offered here are very good and the prices are reasonable.
Restaurant Sol de Almeria - Calle Circunvalacion. You will find this restaurant located by the covered Mercado. The choice of daily menus offered is good and they are good value for money.
Bar Castro - Castillo 14, north of the market. This friendly , comfortable bar serves good tapas.

Tabernas Desert - The desert lies to the north of Almería Town and is located between the mountains of los Filabres and Alhamilla. It is considered to be the only true desert in the European continent. The desert was used for the film, ¨Lawrence of Arabia¨. Starring Peter O Toole and many¨spaghetti western¨ movies. A few of the old film sets remain and can be explored.
Sierra de María-Los Vélez Natural Park - This park consists of 18.000 hectares in the north of the Almeria Province. It is a place of amazing contrasts, with parched, moon-like plains overlooked by the white peaks of the sierras in winter. Many archaeological remains are to be found in the park such as those in the Cueva Ambrosio.
Cabo de Gata - This natural park of 29,000 hectares is the largest coastal nature reserve in Andalucia. The mountain range of Cabo de Gata has a volcanic appearance and falls sharply into the sea. There are many hidden coves and lovely white sand beaches. The clear waters of the peninsula are perfect for underwater photography, sailing and windsurfing
